Pre-purchased on Steam, but couldn't wait another 2 days so got myself an evaluation copy in the meantime.

I just played through the vault 101 section of the game and I've quit it to eat dinner in absolute awe.

More comments to come as I play through, but I may shelve the game until I get my new laptop (in a few days hopefully), so I can play it in all of its glory.

Anyone else played it yet? Thoughts?

Fiend, buy the retail and support this game.

I'm about 5 hours in and havent passed Megaton yet, im spending the time to explore and do as many side quests as I can.. before I blow Megaton up.

I'm a bit dubious as to what I should do with the Family. It will be a hard slog at lvl 5 to kill them all.

My character's tagged skills are Medicine, Small Guns and Repair. I'm trying for my old Sniper character again.

It pays off to be a scavenger and check all containers, you find some really valuable things.

Was about to buy this on steam but I think $70US comes out more expensive than the retail box ATM.

Post 6

$70 US? It's only charged at $50 US here in the UK, so I went right ahead and got it.

Post 7

Yep its the austraila tax.

Post 8

Good game, for those who are interested to have a look at the game before you buy, I'll be hosting a live stream tomorrow night about 6pm - 7:30pm on Xfire.

Had a trial run tonight and got a couple of people from Japan & Germany into the chat room.

Biggest ****ing headache to install, the thing will get so far then stop installing and hang. I eject DVD and terminate app only to discover it ****s something with the DVDROM and wont read anythin after. I've restarted and tried to re-install 3 times, this is fkn bs.

Post 10

ya, I'm also getting an error where if I have the Fallout3 disc in the DVD drive and boot up the PC when booting windows, it will hang on a black screen until I take the disc out of the drive.

Weird.

Honestly, it's easier to pirate this than be nice and go legit.

Post 11

this game is pure awesome gold

Post 12

^^
About 25 hours into the game. And it's still as addictive as to when I first started playing it. A little sick of the VATS kill shots, but meh.

Post 13

Alright to clear my self up a little as I was extremely frustrated before. When I tried installing both this game and Far Cry 2 it would get so far into the installation (setup) then hang while trying to unpack. After numerous attemps I changed DVD-RW drive, still wouldn't install. Tried installing on 2 other HDDs, still nothing. I've been at it since like 2pm today and up untill now was completely ****ing pissed off. Then I read something about SecuROM screwin up with CD writing shit installed so I uninstalled Daemon Tools, Alochol 120 and Nero, to my avail it worked. Both have installed :O

Now I just need to play em... Oh and death to all this new protection crap, would have just been easier for me to download this shit.

Post 14

Yeah this game is awesomeness in a stimpak.

Flatmate bought the game, didn't detect the DVD in his PC, then my PC. But i checked it, worked on mine, so i installed it, cracked it. Worked perfectly. But had to make it an image and have him copy it over to his PC and crack (cuz cant play without DVD detecting) it just so he could play his bought game. this SecuROM stuff is becoming nothin but a pain in the ass.

But the game is great, reminds me of the previous 2 games but oh so much prettier. VATS baseball hit to the head with critical hit FTW! :P

Post 15

that's really wierd - i have daemon tools installed and had no troubles installing my copy of the game (retail) - maybe you had to be watching anime on the same machine during the install? ;)

No issues here with Far Cry or F3

Post 17

Just finished the storyline component of the game...Weak. I wont say I finished the game as there are countless areas I didn't explore or finish the quests, but storyline wise...gah.

Post 18

ahh - but the big question is - did you collect all the bobbleheads? :)

Post 19

all i can say is

how dare bethesda call this fallout 3.

heathens....

Post 20

Just finished work now maybe finally I can play these games -_-

And yea, not sure weather it was Alchohol, Daemon or Nero, I just uninstalled all 3 at once at it worked (installed) so yea. If worse comes to worse just do that xD

Post 21

The one thing that i can't stand with games is having to have your cd installed !!

they got online checkers, serial numbers and all that jazz and then i have to keep my cd/dvd lying around to play my game !

i don't know about you, but for me the best thing for my dvd's is to install. put it back in the plastic, into the cupboard to save the scratches for the next perfect install, in a years time when i've redone my O.S on my yearly speed up.

I hate having to find no cd cracks etc just to play my games. is theyre spyware or something else dodgy in there blah blah blah..

i can't wait to get a look at someone playing this, to see if i'll buy in to this one. I haven't played any of the fallouts yet, but ive been looking forward to this release.

Post 22

I had no install issues at all, nor do I need a DVD. Steam FTW. ;)

Post 23

omfg....

the main quest

is omfg terrible...

goes back to playing fallout 1 and 2...

Post 24

who cares about the main story? christ i'm having a ball executing raiders and psycho dogs.. and just good old exploring :D

Post 25

and that is what makes it not fallout

Post 26

Would you prefer they made virtually no real progress and recycled the exact same old ideas? If so, go play Diablo 3.

Post 27

ooh snap.

Post 28

snap? because diablo 3 is going to suck right?

Post 29

i spent fricken weeks of actual time just exploring the world in fallout 1 and 2. I'm really enjoying the new one.

I love how, when you're standing on an uneven surface, if you turn around, your character adjusts the placement of his feet to account for said surface.

Post 30

OH BTW you can buy a dvd with Fallout 1, 2 and (tactics(shit)) for 20 dollars at games stores, if anyone wants to,it in the brand white label

ps what the hell do these bars under our name mean

Post 31

when the green bar hits zero you die

Post 32

Well I'm about 15-20 hours play in and it has been freaking awesome so far... although you start to see through all this talk of true open-ended open-world play, which is rubbish. The dialogue and karma systems have little impact on actual outcomes, and the main quest remains more or less linear. The combat system is cool, but that coolness quickly wears off and its "just the way to kill enemies" soon enough.

It has been a great experience, my favourite single player RPG by far, but I do feel my attention wandering and I haven't finished the game's main quest yet. Although when it comes to a short attention span and not finishing single player games, I'm a superstar... I've finished less than half a dozen single player games in my life, despite the hundreds and hundreds played.

Examples in recent times is that I almost played COD4 and Bioshock through to full completion. Almost. :P

How is everyone else going with it?

Post 33

****ing loving it - i've temporarily abandoned the main quest and gone hunting deathclaws off my own bat - Alien Blaster FTW! :D

I have zero issues with this game. It's EXACTLY what I wanted from it - right down to the size of inside maps etc. chock full of in jokes and plenty of opportunities for the player to just have fun.

I can understand the karma system not having a huge impact, after all, there IS an overarching storyline they're trying to push you through. If you could be REALLY evil, you couldn't talk to most of the people you need to to get quest updates.

I've been playing for 30 or so hours now and my joy for this game has not flagged one bit.

and I love that the mapping bugs you come across can be fixed via the console thanks to Fallout Wiki - The Vault - a Fallout wiki (missing robots in the Big Town junkyard got me).

but i still want a co-op mod :/

Post 34

you people make the original fallouts cry in agony...

Post 35

I don't think so. I absolutely adored the originals - (I had to they were some of the only mac games you could get back then ;P ). If anything the main storyline is MORE indepth than the original ones. The RPG elements are true to the original. and the combat is a breath of fresh air.

people complain about the VATS system - well so what? don't use it if you don't like it - everyone here is an FPS player anyway prettymuch.

the fallout experience was ALWAYS about the world they'd created. Fallout 3 fleshes it out even more.

Post 36

I have a question, I have bought the physical version and passed it now I want to legitimatly get the DLC but cant for the life of me figure out how to get it, I though windows live maybe but that just put me in xbox live and was not the way, gah im so confused.

Post 37

Pretty sure you need a paid GFWL account?

Post 38

GFWL is free, all u need to do is install it and then search for the DLC in GFWL and purchase them.

but there is a retail expansion copy out soon with the first 3 expansions on one disk if you wanna wait it is meant to be coming out around the same time as the new expansion.

Post 39

ahhh excelent, thank you for the help, ill wait for the retail but i think ill get the GFWL client as well.

Post 40

I just want to know what I'm supposed to do with the microsoft points I have left over after my purchase.
