$950 bucks? Sweet makes that speeding fine I got yesterday not a problem at all, PLUS I can get my 24" LCD :)
I'm doing my bit.
Wasn't there something about free ceiling insulation? I could do with some of that too.
On the package as a whole investing in infastructure is where the bulk should go. Might as well have something to show for the big deficit that comes with the package, keeps the construction industry busy too.
Got links? I just want to be clear on the info, not trying to be smart.
I read that it was $950 for $80,000 or less, $650 for "00,000 or less, and nothing for over "00,000. And it was being paid in April, not immediate.
Personally, I'm hoping you're right...

$42 billion spent to kickstart economy with Budget going into deficit | Business | News.com.au
right about april
"It means 8.7 million workers earning "00,000 or less will receive a lump sum payment of up to $950 each from April."
however also says
"
- "2.7 billion for immediate one-off payments to working Australians, families with school-age children, farmers, single income families and for those undergoing training;"
so could be earlier for some?
Wow... Fantastic work, just what our country needed!
I'm sorry I ever doubted the ecomonic genius of the Rudd/Swann team.
It's okay though guys, because Rudd and Obama are going to save us together! I mean, that's what Rudd said so it must be true!
Okay - found some news that makes it clearer. Single-income families (who are receiving the Family B payment - or whatever it's called) will receive an immediate cash-payment of $950.
Then in April, people earning up to $80k will get a payment of $950; between $80 & $90k, $650; between $90k and "00k, $300. If you earn over "00k, go away.
There's other stuff, but most of us are only concerned with the handouts, right? ;-)

Its not as if the budget is going to deficit, oh wait never mind.
They are right about one the budget will get into surplus again just not while labour is in power.
How about they instead of throwing money at voters and hope it stimilates the ecomony(I mean it worked great last time) fix issue with public services. I would rather see money put into health, education and public housing than throwing about money that is going to achieve much in the long term.
****ers never give me anything :(
I think we all would Morge, but I don't believe that will help the crisis.
The thought that's gone into this one (and the last one) hasn't been all that great.
The point of this is that people will spend it, which is to say, spend it on stuff that's useful, to help stimulate the economy.
Right now, the spending has gone down which is one of the major issues in this 'crysis'.
With the cash bonousus to people. It sitmulates the economy in the reason on whatever you spend the money then that company / bussness / individual will in turn spend the money on something else, and so on.
ill invest mine :)
i think thats what its for :)
does it just appear in your account one day ? lol
or do i need to call rudd and double check my account details bahaha.
i see KFC being out of chicken on the day the cheques go out.

Thats the theroey, now lets look at the reality.
People go out and spends on random chinesse made goods. Retailers run down their stock levels more don't any more goods to replace those stock levels as a large number of them are still over stocked from the lite christmas. Lets face what goods they do buy will come from china which is going to be a drop in the oceane as far as helping the mining industry. Net result retails do a little very little long term impact of the ecomeny as a whole.
Or it could be spent of infastructure which employees australians who are out of work from the reductions in the mining industry(although there are some people who are going to get reality check when they reliese their skills arn't worth the "00k a year the mines paid) a signifcant percentage of materials used come from australian manufaturing. Much greater flow on effect to the economy as a whole.
Why flush money down the loo when we need more housing for the low income earners(not just abos).

Nope, personally, will go into savings.
Press Release - $950 One-off Cash Bonus to Support Jobs [03/02/2009]
Weee...there's also a student bonus, so we'll also be getting $950 per child that is enrolled in school this year.
My 4 year old started school this year - that's 3 in school. I would have liked to start the 1 year old, but hey, can't push them too early can we?
Still...all gloating aside; as nice as it is to get the money, I agree with morge - not much thought has gone into this second round of "buy-outs" - there should have been a serious look at some major Australian industry, and then heavily subsidising it/them to encourage people to buy them. THAT would stimulate the economy far more than stimulating just the retail sector (which is, as morge pointed out, simply stimulating an oversea's country economy). And yes, I know about the subsidised insulation thingy - but surely they could have done more deals like that?
And my "hard-earned" govt handouts? They will also go into savings.
Still wont help me decide to vote for these kents at teh next election.
another idea would be to lower taxes in our weekly pay. 30% or whatever it is is HUGE imo. cut that by 5% pa and ill be happy.
i dont see pumping money into the low and medium income earners pockets fixing the economy, its a short term solution. its a world thing and these cycles happen. employers should get incentives to raise pays so we can cope long term for example
Mine and my girlfriends will go straight towards my new mortgage I just aquired.
do I have a chance if I havent earned anything in the 08/09 financial yeaR?
supposedly yes, so long as you submitted an 07/08 tax return

No
Another interesting note is, the government has it slated for April 09 for the payments to begin. The opposition has already said they will oppose it when it is passed and the greens will be supporting that as they believe it needs an investigation.
Whilst the extra cash is good, 42 billion dollars... which Australia doesn't have cannot be good for our economy.

Cash is the most liquid form of money. Subsidies and infrastructure are great fiscal stimuli when there's not a great deal of urgency to pump funds into an economy. Part of this package includes infrastructure and education but those funds are more like an IV drip rather than a huge syringe. They need to get people back into gear and spending NOW not later when we are actually IN RECESSION. Money doesn't just ebb and flow like the tide... It grows and creates more wealth in an economy. The more in the system the larger the effect.
This is a unique situation in which long term rationalization doesn't tread as much water. The whole world economy is falling through and we are treading water rapidly to try and stay afloat.
its abit like that futurama episode fry has all them coffees :)
hey i put my 07/08 tax return in and im not getting it
