I want to see this more for the Daft Punk created soundtrack than I do the movie itself. So, so fucking pumped.
Man im epic pumped for both, even watched the original again a few nights ago loved it... my missus didnt quiet get the epicness... but given she is only like 21 im not suprised..
kids these days.... hope you told her to get off your lawn!
In fact i did, it came after a comment from her that it must be an old persons thing.
wow - does she even understand how cool your avatar is?!
Sadly no...
if she wasnt so hot id kick her arse to the kerb lol
Also Ratty, prepare a CC for the inevitable tours that Daft Punk will do for this around OZ.
I think next drinking sesh at yours must involve an Invader Zim marathon and teach her in the ways of Gir!
Invader Zim FTW.
Also I didn't realise until watching that clip that Michael Sheen is in this. This movie just got even more awesome.

Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack is unexpected, and wonderful
Any1 seeing the 3D movie tonite? I unsure what to do :| cause the only other movie i've seen is Avatar3D but that was after i saw it Normal first.
Yep, I'm heading in to see it in 3D tonight. Right after watching the original again.
Same im heading in tonight.. watched the original just a couple weeks back to catch my missus up on the story
Really enjoyed it.
There's only a spattering of action scenes and even less real drama, but it didn't matter. I was held captive by the ambiance, tied together with the special effects and one of the best sci-fi scores ever created.
The original is void of emotion and hurried along far too quickly. Both of those qualms meet some level of resolve here, but don't expect that sterile feeling to have completely disappeared, and I think it has a deserved place in the Tron universe.
If you're not a sci-fi lover or aren't familiar with the original, it probably won't deliver, but if you know what you're getting yourself into - buying that ticket for the visuals and the score - scoot right along. Recommended.
Extremely impressed with the movie, i recommend definitely seeing it in the cinema the sound alone "makes" some scenes.
3D also adds the extra touch of epic, to already very impressive visuals.
Olivia Wilde is in it?
Will watch ASAP.
I've just been listening to the sound track and I love it, it's like a electronica version of fantasia, EPIC! :D
Am I the only one here that was actually rooting for the enemy in this movie? To me, the justification of turning off a whole computer civilization due to their desire to create the perfect world that is to reflect the Adolf Hitler and Facism is just completely wrong?
Take it this way, I saw nothing wrong with the supposed enemy or ideology manifestation of the enemy in this movie. They wanted a better life, they wanted to use the gate to escape to the real world and have a chance at living in a imperfect world and bring perfection to this world. I don't see anything wrong with this! Considering that their Army size is about the size of a Pentium 200 computer there's day I don't think could of gotten very far in the real world, though the benefit in technology and understanding of AI would of been endless.
Instead with this movie, I saw more of the son and the dad playing god. What right do they have to tell the farther duplicated copy his mission was a failure? His dad made the mistake of ordering him to make the 'perfect world' and in that essence the farther duplicate copy did exactly that! He made order out of chaos. For comparison just look at history to see to get to the point we're today we had to go through some nasty shit.
What pisses me off to now end when watching this movie has to be the son. He goes into the world as a reckless teenager and at the end of the movie he wants to take charge of his life and take over the company. Talk about being juvenile about the situation.
I still think that those algorithms within the computer have a right to live outside of the simulated world, even though they may have a facism view does not mean they should be condemned to death for those views. The son and farther are ass holes for playing god to determine who lives and who dies.
Wow you really missed the point of the movie lol.
Way to spoil it too.
Oh come on, going into a Tron thread not expecting any spoilers is just stupid. The people who care would of seen the movie all ready, otherwise they would be avoiding this thread.
It's not missing the point, they paint the enemy has a fascism view that everyone must conform or be eliminated and of course this goes against the moral liberal democracy view where everyone has the right to vote and have freedom of speech in a world to make their own choices. yup got that, but come on. So you have two choices, either a fascism ruler or complete deletion by a teenager who cannot take authority figure. More or less the son is playing god and being a ruthless dictatorship ruler within this virtual world. Either accept his decision or face deletion from the command prompt.
So my view, they where better off with the fascism leader than to be a key ring around this kids neck.
You know there's one thing I hate more than stupid people and that's stupid people trying to sound smart.
You're a fucking oxygen thief.
Your kind of underestimating the size of his army considering he can double it via copy and paste as soon as he gets out.... He created the program so he had every right to destroy it obviously you give greater weight to the value of the programs that came about from a random set of conditions compared to a program that he could just write again as soon as he got out and even better it. Seriously how do you not consider that the creator of a program has every single right to do with it as he wish?

lol
Also, Chad; you're analyzing this far too much. It's Tron.
Saw the movie in 3D today. May contain spoilers.
Pros:
- Awesome soundtrack.
- Awesome visuals.
- Olivia Wilde is HOT AS FUCK.
- Lots of rad stuff happened.
Cons:
- The CGI for young Jeff Bridges was a little bit too uncanny valley at times.
- Story was a bit meh.
- Should have actually had some, you know... Tron in it. I think a whole redemption sub-plot would have made the whole thing more satisfying. Instead they softed out.
- I get pissed off when I see people in movies riding motorcycles without helmets.
Still, I got what I paid for - 2 hours of entertainment. And the movie was by no means bad.
On a side note, this is the third 3D movie I've seen now, so I can finally make an informed conclusion: I won't be bothering with any more 3D movies for a while. It's still not there yet.

There you go Chad. There's an example of a guy with a brain. Learn. Or at least try.

Though I did think about that, but there is one major problem that they're running within a simulated world not the natural real world with boundaries. True they could just copy past and send everything through the mass defibulator and fibulator when it got to the other side.

My problem with the above is the same premise as god? If you're religious then you could say that what right does god have over every single one of us, and does he do as his choosing?
My consideration is because MASS can be created and destroyed via the laser then in essence the beings within the virtual world are no less than real than people you meet on the street. To turn off the power in essence is performing an act of mass murder.
Well consider it this way, if you took everyone in Japan and I just use japan because i couldn't think of anything else at the time. And shoved them into the virtual world, then deleted them, then how different is it then is if you went up to each one of them and killed them? They're no longer in existence, and the mere thought of those people in the simulation have a conscious and being self aware of their surroundings scares the shit out of me.
Sorry, I may be taking things too deep. Though this is the exact reason I loved shutter island so much.

When you walk into a strip club do you proclaim there are naked people walking around? Or do you say "I should of been warned of these naked women body's?"

I don't even have to form an argument to prove my point. You do it wonderfully yourself.
Good to know.

The story was hugely meh. As hugely meh as the original. And yeah the young Jeff Bridges was shit the whole way through.

Really? I thought the use of 3D was bloody brilliant. Akin to Avatar and Up!
Everything else has turned it into a gimmick rather than an enhancer.
Still contemplating if people enjoy the movie or the tight leather outfits the female actors are wearing. DeviantArt seems to agree with me that they're out in numbers now, just like furys.
Like I said on FB, rec - youth is like anti-aliasing for movies because it hides all the jaggies. When I was 6 and first saw Tron it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. Maybe if I watched it for the first time today it wouldn't get a passing grade but since it's from my childhood it's enconsed within an impenetrable shield of nostalgia.
Unfortunately for Tron Legacy it doesn't earn the same deference due because I'm a grizzled old bastard now.
Fair enough, i totally understand that.
Although not even nostalgia could shield me from the reality of Tron. I watched the original again just the other night, and make no mistake, it's bad.
Despite Tron Legacy's many flaws, it's a better film, looked at objectively.
It's still not a great film, and objectively I'd be hard pressed to say it's a good film. But it is better, and it is Tron. Besides "quality" of film, it's about bright lights and loud noises in the most stellar fashion possible.
As mentioned, because of the visuals and the score, I was mesmerised by the production, so it gets my tick. I wasn't expecting anything more.
Im sorry, see i watched TRON the other week as a refresher, and yes it wasnt the gretaest movie, BUT for its time it was an excellently thought out and fairly accurate representational of what i think the inside of the internet/PC should be like...
TRON legacy only expanded on that, maybe its just me that enjoys a movie at face value these days... even tho the story was fairly average it was still very good compared to the story of say.... AVATAR. as well as they fact that they didn't ruin the original at all they just expanded on it.
Its a disney movie folks, which means its not supposed to be analysed its supposed to be enjoyed at face value, and IMO they hit it right on the head.
If you want to see a good adventure movie with excellent visuals and sound i recommended it, if your a pretentious douche don't cos you will try ruin it for others.
on the 3D in avatar i got the WOW 3d feeling, then in toystory 3 the Meh feeling.. but honestly i believe the 3D in this movie gave a feeling of being on the GRID yourself in some scenes, i think this sort of movie is what the 3D was designed for.
Will have to check it out in 3D then. Fah sure.
:)
