It has finally happened, for most people negating any real need for a stand-alone GPS unit for the car.

Do a search for "TomTom" in the App Store for the following map packs:

- U.S. & Canada: AUD "19.99
- Western Europe: AUD "69.99
- Australia: AUD $99.99
- New Zealand: AUD "14.99

Of course, if you're really keen, you'll just hang-out for their retail kit. It includes the app itself, a GPS-boosting receiver, windshield mount, car charger and speakers and should hit shelves at around $249.

The only problem is, I bet you will still get Police pull you over for using a phone while driving and book you for it...

If the phone is in a cradle you are allowed to touch it, in SA anyway.

I'm pleased that TomTom has finally released the software. I now have no reason not to seriously consider an iphone when my HTC dies.
