ok with there being official news that all the AION servers are on the east coast of the states, meaning an increase of latency by 50-150 (massive issue in a PVP game) a thought occured to me.
playing wow i used a piece of software to help drop my latency by like 400 called freecap(only seemed to work for internode ISP users, or can someone clarify if they used this for westnet?).
lowerping.com has the info for freecap and wow, and the internode website has a ling to the software d/load somewhere.
i've done some searches and cant find anything like this for AION that is free, i've found a few that make u pay for it, but they ask roughly the same price as your monthly subscription for the game itself, so potentially doubling your monthly gaming costs to get the same experiance as someone living in the US.
I was using programs like FreeCap / ProxyCap but we might come accross a problem with the silly ncsoft laungcer...
In the end launching wow through proxycap was a pain and sometimes bugged out I went down the lines of building a linux proxy at home which all intenet trafic went through. If it was data going to any of the wow servers through the wow ports it would bounce it through my slicehost in the states. I had then pings of 250 - 400 max and no lag spikes or noticeable differences to the proxy offered by internode.
I'm going to do this setup again when I remake my linux box again and I'll let you guys know how / what to do.
i never had any issues with freecap but i did have a few mates that had all sorts of trouble with it.
nice to know dude, im sure if you need anything or any help most of us playing trhe game will be willing to chip in to get our latancy down by a chunk.
Internode's wow gateway server (and similar ones like lowerping) was built because of blizzard having a flaw in their netcode, and because they prioritised US traffic over all others.
If aion doesn't do that, then the gateway won't achieve anything.

from what ive read AION seems to have the same "flaw", there are posts on AION source from people that payed to use the system like lowerping during the beta for an improvment of upto 250ping.
not 100% proof i know but worth the thought at least.
Quote from HeReTiC;369765: I'm guess they wont worry at least untill retail. and who knows what kind of an impact our latency will have?
We will just have to play retail and then make judgements on how bad it is.
if you take a look at this thread you'll understand my worries. some of the differences will be game breaking for high end PVP if we are vs'ing US players.
Information For Ayase Re: Oceanic Latency Issues - AionSource.com
yeah i understand what you're worrying about, played plenty of mmo's with shit pings, but all i'm saying is they just wont do anything untill after retail is out, too much on their plate. if you want to ask the dev's, you can directly on twitter, and they do actually reply.
and this issue has been brought up 100 times to NCSoft, so they definately know about it. but if they don't do anything, someone will come up with something and probably post it on the official forums after it comes out.
and what lenko has mentioned before will help with our pvping, about 20ish oceanic legions have all put their names down to roll on the same server, so a massive community will be on the same server, and we will most likely be playing with guys with the same issues.
good to hear bout the DEVs replying, cept twitter is gay shit.
yeh the AUS legions all rolling same server will be a good thing, original post was more just to find if anyone knew of a system like freecap for AION. But if lothar is guna work out something i spose that answers my question anyways.
yeah but NCSoft should do something. posted something to ayase on twitter Quote: @aion_ayase Is anything being concidered for the oceanic community? Eastcoast servers will make our pings 400-500 :( Information For Ayase Re: Oceanic Latency Issues - AionSource.com
if its the same issue as wow had, you can use socat on a linux router/vm to do what internode/lowerping do. And then you dont need to muck about with freecap (which may **** with gameguard)
Has anyone managed to get a lower ping type application to work with Aion on Windows 7 64bit? I've been reading and the apps that work like Widecap and Lowerping apparently done work with this version of Windows 7...
Peope have been having issues with SSH applications in general. If you are with Internode though; their free tunnelling service has been expanded to include Aion by default.
Just hope that our Oceanic server selection makes them move the server to teh east coast for us!
Ratty - Westnet also have a setup similar to Node, however it's based in Perth and to the best of my knowledge it only works for WoW. There's talk about the possibility of getting an East Coast server setup to make this viable for people outside of WA.
Longtom - Proxycap needs to be purchased. Though it's only an application that allows other applications to work through a tunnel, there's a few alternatives out there. Figured you got this? but just in case, access to a proxy server as such will still need to be paid for or obtained by other means.
WoW Tunnels works for Aion, I used this for WoW and was good, was only $6 for 3 months so it's dirt cheap. Will be updating my subscription again tonight so if any questions feel free to ask away.
For some of you guys that dont have internode as your ISp. Theres currently a free tunnel service that is offered at the moment. Lower your Ping with SmoothPING
No idea when it might become not free to use but for the mean time its the best alternative to anything.
Quote: Signing up with Smoothping is fast, easy and 100% safe. It's also FREE TO SIGN UP! We don't ask you for a credit card or any type of commitment. You are signing up for a free trial account. A trial account is restricted to 20 minutes of continuous play, so after 20 minutes, you will be logged off WoW.
I have only gotten back from Broome on Sunday night.
Longtom - Proxycap / Freecap are a couple of programs that basicly run on your PC and direct all traffic of a certain program (ie in our case Aion) through a specified Proxy (eg internodes wow gateway, which is now configured for aion also)
If you look hard enough you can find a few versions on the usual places. Hit me up on steam and I'll find a link for you.
started using it last nite, ping went from 800+ down to 300-400.
its on a 30 free trial atm, but if it i dont find something free i will pay the $6 a month for the added awesome of this, unless u try this u wont see the difference it makes.
your chain skills go off every time, healing is less of a pain if u cast in time u know it will land instead of lagging out and being too late...
after setting it up last nite i told a few of the guys to and now 5-7 of us are using it lol
