Looking into the market for probably a 40" LCD. Looked at a few yesterday and it seems like a decent size. Looking at paying between 1500-2000 for hopefully something with full HD 1080p. Going to be used for games on both PC and 360 and too watch movies so something that won't lag too much would be ideal.

As I've always been a fan of Samsung LCDs I've pre-selected one model I thought seems very fitting to my requirements.
Samsung LA40B530 40"

Normally sell for around 1500-1800 depending on haggling skills and stubbornness of the salesman. Does anyone actually know the cost price of this thing? As it's a Series 5 I think a lot of places are trying to get rid of them for the newer models? Maybe I can strike a better deal xD

Any other recommendations and suggestions are welcome too, please help me choose a good LCD :D

Sammy wins. At least they make their own panels, unlike Sony.

Mines not an LCD, but I'm super happy with my 63" Samsung Plasma, so I couldn't recommend them more highly.

You don't want anything except a Sony or Samsung if you're looking at LCD - and you'll pay more for the Sony, but if you have the extra cash it's often worth it.

also, theres that new samsung service center now. not sure if that means that all the warrany repairs will be done locally.

Hrmm so it's pretty definite that I'll go with a Samsung. As I stated before I was keen on the Series 5, full HD for a nice price. The Series 6 and 7 look fab with thier 120hz scan, so was wondering if the extra "000 (around there) was worth it? Otherwise if the technology can't justify the cost I'll stick with the Series 5. Has anyone directly compared the Series screens and could comment about the quality difference?

Cheers again :)
