every report i've read praises this av as one of the most unobtrusive, least obnoxious out there.

nod32 is good, ive been using it for years now :S never get viruses then again i dont look up pron :D

yeah, we use Eset's nod32 corporate edition at work. has faired far better than our symantec one ever did.

i have been using CA internet security for 2 years and find it great. ill give this MS one a go though.

I just started to try MS virus scanner and if find it better than all the other scanners i have used sofare it uses wayless Ram and CPU time and is fast at scanning for viruses also i found viruses AVG and Avast never saw in my system folder.

Symantec/Trend/McAfee/CA - they all chew up metric arse tonnes of power and when you DO get an infection they ask it to leave nicely and if it refuses they go "Hey at least we asked" and go back to raping your resources.

Really? My avast always picks up at least one virus from you PC each LAN :p

i thought MS owned symantec??
may give this a try as mcafee enterprise sees every F*****G exe file as a generic trojan and deletes it when i know they are not.... :/

That's a very bad example of the future of anti-virus protection.
With the speed and sheer volume that virii/malware etc. are being created and distributed, 0-day protection is virtually impossible when using a definitions database.
The goal is for anti-virus software to perform its own investigation, on-the-spot, and decide whether it's a threat or not. Rudimentary methods of doing exactly that are already in place, but even in the best examples are rather pitiful.
Right now, in the absolute best case scenario, you're only really ever protected up until a few hours ago.

NOD is also rather renowned for false-positives (but no where near as bad as McAfee), because it also operates trying to be be quite pro-active about stopping potential threats. However, in both instances, your actual definitions list isn't updated as frequently as others.

i have tryed Microsfot virus scanner now for about a week now and no viruses and on 2nd windows i have AVG scanning also when i use it and AVG dones not see some viruses that microsoft sees + Microsoft is faster at sanning 6TB than AVG

my definitions update at least once a day. which is plenty fast enough for anyone not in the habit of opening emails titled "Your v!agr4 for big penis - this file is! CLICK IT!"
i've never seen a false positive in my copy of Nod32 either (unless xolares' machine really DIDN'T have any viral issues - which i don't believe for a second because i imagine his machine is as open to communicating as he is).
My only gripe with nod is that it can be slow at times, but i'd rather be slow and clean than fast and festering.

no i realise that, and your graph even demonstrates that Nod is pretty decent - there is no perfect AV tool - users are the worst viruses of the lot :)

man CA software seriously blows chunks, i have used alot of the crappy CA software out there "including there server backup software" its so resource hungry!
just goes to show how lazy there programmers are when it comes to writing a bit of software without errors ect
