Does anyone have a case lying around doing nothing this weekend for the lan? Its the the actual case i would like to borrow, its the power cable that goes from the front of a computer (the on/off switch), and leads into the motherboard...... into Pins like....

system warning speaker connector (4pin SPEAKER)
system power LED lead (3-1 ping PWRLED)
system message LED lead (2pin MSN.LED)
reset switch Lead (2pin RESET)
atx power Switch Lead (2pin PWRSW)
system Management Interrupt Lead (2pin SMI)
yeah...... Would u have one of them lying around somewhere i could borrow for the weekend (LAN)?

You should be able to get away with not having the cables at all.

The ATX power switch is just a trigger.

Grab a small screwdriver and CAREFULLY short the two pins labled ATX power for a moment. This will start your system. The cpu fan will spin and psu fan will spin. Don't worry if the PSU fan slows down, it may have a variable speed temp controller.

This may help to get you going for the weekend.

Another tip for testing atx psu's without a m/b handy. Grab a resistor, short the green to black wires on the atx connector. Make sure you have a load though, eg a hdd plugged into the power plug

Stapla.

Obviously its at your own risk, but I can honestly tell you working as a tech I have done it to probably more than 100 motherboards whilst testing and never blown one up doing it (yet).

Someone will probably bring along a spare switch for you. Sometimes you get a spare one with a new case, with the bag of screws m/b stands etc.

I have seen a computer go up in smoke by shorting the speaker wire in the cover. It happened in the assembly area at a wholesaler where I used to work. This computer was just built and was being tested. The guy accidently jammed the speaker wire when putting the cover on and didn't notice it. When the computer went to POST it almost smoked out the entire wherehouse. I didn't think the speaker circuit could draw so much current but in this instance it did and competely melted a bunch a wiring.

Stapla.

Ohh well, that really got my confidence levels up... Geeze... Well I'll still give it a try.... Just watch where ur sticking those speaker cables.. Cause I dont fancy the idea of burning out the motherboard.. or smoking out the Library... and iam sure that everyone else wouldnt want It either [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/smilies/cwm44.gif]
