Post 13

erm.....man you shouldn't post that shit on here. Octa4 can actually be held legally responsible for all content it hosts, and as EOS said you basically just confessed to trafficing in pirate software for proffit. (very serious offence). I'd maybe edit or remove it as a service to octa4 and yourself [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/smile.gif]

Up to you man :P

Yeah Rent we all know your D!@* fits in the centre hole in a CD but please do you have to go bragging about it? I mean seriously it is nothing to be proud of now. :P

Rec count me in - there best be a copy kept aside for me friend. But can you make sure Rent doesn't get a hold of my copy. Just wanna be sure the disc is clean if you know what I mean.

Hey R3COIL, I wasn't trying to sound like a Nazi so sorry if I did [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/smile.gif] But something like that is probably enough to give the authorities enough warrant to walk into your house and confiscate all you comp gear and CD's, then go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Although it would be unlikely to happen in Darwin it does happen, and they usually try to make an example of the person, so it's good practice I guess. All it takes is one person with a grudge against you and they tell the correct authorities about your post and it goes pear shaped from there.

Only saying this because I have seen it happen to a friend of mine down south. He now has tick yes to 'do you have a criminal record' on his job applications, and the ISP he worked for coped a $30,000 fine [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/smilies/cwm36.gif]

I don't see how you bring Octa4 into this?

They are not responsible for what is posted here, as there 'is' a disclaimer. If a user of the BBS wants to imply that he pirates software...thats his choice. But Octa4 is in no way supporting him/aiding in his ditsribution of said illicit goods. Forums are a live medium...like IRC.

I hate talking like a lawyer.

Good point Aphex, if anything Octa4 wont get the blame, LANded will since they are the ones holding the comps.

DGA-LAN The Home of Darwin Gaming.

Post 20

Not neccesarily TN1. Landed-NT would only get the blame if they willingly participated the distribution, and allowed it.

If they told someone not to pirate software at their LANs, but people still did and got cought, Landed-NT wouldn't be held resopnsible.

Post 21

rec
Theres an extremely thin line between what is concidered resonable notice not to pirate. If everyone at Landed were told at the door they are not to pirate - Landed can still be blamed. If you read the finer details - they pretty much should be putting things in writing and handing it to each attendee. Otherwise seeing as they ran the event they can be blamed for pretty much anything.

HINT TO NECESSARY PPL. Write up a disclaimer.

From last year when the Aussie government brought in those stupid new internet laws, ISP's can now be held responsible for all content they host, weather they know about it or not.

The case I mentioned with my friend and the ISP he worked for was a much different situation, a vindictive, disgruntled customer actually caused the whole thing. I only made mention of it to illustrate what can happen. It was a pretty fucked situation.
