If youre running an ATI card and you find BC2 crashes on startup (no error)
- Go to battlefield bad company 2 beta\BFBC2Game.exe and right click -> properties -> compatibility and "Run this program as an administrator"

To get an ATI frames boost:
- Set Catalyst A.I to max

For a reported 10-20 fps boost:
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings.ini"
- Change "renderaheadlimit" to 0 instead of 2

For a reported giant general performance boost:
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings.ini"
- Change "Bloom=true" to false

For another potentially big performance update (especially with Quad Core users):
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings"
- Change "HSAO=true" to false (also settable in the in-game "advanced" graphics settings)

Other settings.ini changes that you can try:
- Undergrowth=”medium” – Put this to low, if experiencing frame-rate issues. This map has a lot of it.
- Water=”medium” - Not really any water to traverse in this map, go ahead and set this to low.
- MSAA=”2″ - This is Anti-aliasing, this will always use up a lot of a gpx cards resources. Set this to “0″
- Shadows=”medium”- you can also set this to low to improve performance
- Textures=”medium”- Setting this to low can improve FPS at the cost of visual eye candy.
- Aniso=2 - Set this to 0 to disable Anisotropic filtering.

To fix sticky controls (for those who get key shadow/lag with wasd etc):
- Delete the joystick conrols under foot (options->controls->foot), then it works fine

To run DX9 for improved performance (this also stops random crashes for some people):
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings"
- Add "DxVersion=dx9" to the list (without quotation)

You closed the PunkBuster agreement window and can't get it back:
- Head to Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2 beta\install\PunkBuster and re-install Punkbuster

To run the game in a window:
- Simply hit alt+enter and change your resolution to something smaller than your desktop.

For sticky/laggy mouse issues:
- Disable mouse acceleration in the game's mouse settings, and turn off Vsync in the graphics settings.

What ports should I open for multiplayer if I'm having connectivity trouble?
- Port: 80 TCP
- Port: 18121 TCP
- Port: 18126 TCP
- Port: 18126 UDP
- Port: 13505 TCP

What ports should I open for multiplayer if I'm having EA connection issues?
- 18390 TCP Outgoing
- 18395 TCP Outgoing
- 18395 UDP Outgoing
- 13505 TCP Outgoing
- 80 TCP Outgoing

You can't look up-down and/or left-right - "my mouse isn't working"
- You've accidentally bound something to the axes that BF2 uses for looking around.
- Reset your controls to fix this.
- In future, when binding things to your mouse, pay close attention; if you move the mouse at all while binding, it will register & bind that horizontal or vertical movement axes, replacing your look ones.

To enable war tapes audio:
- Change your audio setting to "war tapes" instead of "hifi"
An example of the change can be seen here:
[Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cFgWKEYC2g&hd=1]

To add the GU servers to your favorites & recent games list:
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "GameSettings.ini"
- Replace "FavoriteGames" with the following:

FavoriteGames=553951853,a8649c3b-33f0-471b-a6ba-042d6f287885,Gamers-Underground.com #1 [Conquest];113327715,c43047a3-8594-4279-a171-9bac892e01d7,Gamers-Underground.com #2 [Rush];2136502612,c9376a37-bf4c-442f-8b6c-601d7e23c0fa,Gamers-Underground.com #3 [Rush];2411996085,2ae43fa5-9864-47a5-92eb-d6a3a857c672,Gamers-Underground.com #4 [Rush];

How to adjust your FOV -Field of View *New in Retail
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "settings.ini"
- Default is "FOV" variable is set to 55, but you can adjust that up to 120 (per repi)
Note: The FOV in the settings.ini file is the vertical FOV, people usually talk about horizontal FOV, so you have to convert your desired HFOV to VFOV using this calculator: FOV calculator. Enter your screen resolution in pixels (e.g. 1920×1200), then the desired HFOV, click calculate, and it will show you the VFOV setting you need to put in settings.ini.

For those who are playing BC2 in the same network as another person:
Many are experiencing getting kicked when a friend on LAN joins the same server. To fix this, in Steam:
- Go to Steam's My games menu
- Right-click on the BFBC2 and select Properties
- From the General tab, click the Set launch options button
- Add a different client port number on each machine between 27005 and 27032 in the following format:
- Code: +clientport 270XX (Where XX is a different number for each system - do not use 27020)

To improve hit registration:
Are you tired of shooting people in Bad Company 2 but they don't take any damage? So was I. One poster on Gamefaqs (spank_thru101) posted a possible solution to the problem so I decided to test it out. Upon further investigation, this was also something you could edit in previous battlefield games.

Basically, add these two lines;

SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.0450000
SettingsManager.U32Set GSInterpolationTime 45

to your gamesettings.ini and settings.ini file in the BFBC2 folder.
In gamesettings.ini, add them between the lines;

IntroPlayed=1
[GstPersistence]

In settings.ini, just add it to the end of the list. Save both files.

BEFORE YOU TRY THIS, change the value to your general server ping. For me, when I refresh the list, most servers are 31-45 ping. So, I change the values to .045 and 45 for 45 ping.

Say most of your servers are 73 ping, you'll want to change the values at the end of the previously stated changes to .073 and 73 respectively.

Apparently the battlefield series tries to compensate for an average of 100ms ping by default and so the hitboxes appear to "lag behind" the actual player model you're seeing in game. This fix changes it so that the models are where the hitboxes actually are by adjusting to your average ping instead.

Updated this list.

This is Jason, from BadCompanyTwo.com.. Hey rec, next time you decide to copy and past from our website, try giving us credit.

settings.ini section is my writing exactly, Now other sites are copy and pasting your site, (fragcast.org) giving you credit, this is how i found out that it originally came from you.

Post 4

does it really matter?

Post 6

Updated with ATI crash fix.

Post 7

An alternative to that ATI card problem (one which I had) is to upgrade your Steam client to the beta in Steams settings. Fixed it for me. A third way (for me) was to run the exe directly from the folder.

Post 8

Any idea why my bc2 crashes when a massive explosion kills me

Post 9

disable the realism mod

Post 10

Just added a cool Favorite server trick to the top of this list. Thanks Fleshy!

Quote:
To add all Australian East coast servers to your in-game favorites list:
- Documents>BFBC2Beta and open up "GameSettings.ini"
- Find "FavoriteGames=" and make it look like this:
FavoriteGames=Sydney;Gamers-Underground.com;GameArena;CyberGamer;
(Sydney is for Hypernia)

Post 11

And a cool sound improvement too:

Quote:
To enable more engaging audio:
- Change your audio setting to "war tapes" instead of "hifi"
An example of the improvement can be seen here:

PS: War tapes sounds like crap.

Post 13

The server treat worked well (adding to favourites)

Also found i remaped my wasd keys and couldn't move even when defaulting keys.
I am not sure , but i think bad company 2 had mapped my joystick in conflict with my movement keys.
I got rid of them and could move again :)

Post 14

A beta may be released this week or next.

We just got the results back from QA for the new patch version and unfortunately it isn't good news. Multiple CTD's and performance issues. This of course means we won't be releasing a patch today.

Sorry guys, maybe tomorrow
I'll keep you updated with our plans during tomorrow.

Sorry to ask the question but need some second opinions. These are my pc's main specs, would i be able to run bad company 2 without any problems?

Gbyte GA-P55
Intel Core i7-860 2.80Ghz 8
4GB DDR3 1333mhz
MSI N240GT 1GB PCIe
Windows 7

Post 23

sure man.

Post 24

Sure would.

I run it using this and on medium it never really drops below 70fps:
i7-920
6GB 1333mhz
GTX285 768mb

Post 25

Arg just what i didn't want to hear :(

I’m getting around 100 fps on low setting whilst in online gu server game play for the first 2 mins, but then after the first 2 mins especially in combat / fire fights I’m dropping to around the 5-10 mark :S
Back to researching again. Any input to solving this problem is greatly appreciated as well as a big thanks for input so far (know it’s not my pc's parts I guess)

Post 26

i have the same rig as rec running on high settings and it's smooth as - no idea on FPS

Post 27

Any one got allot of the aussie servers like gamearena etc added to their fav's list??? if so could you post it from your settings file. I usually only see about 5-6 servers with less than 70 ping and all the others dont list them. makes it hard finding a server sometimes

Post 28

Re: Bad Company 2 tweaks

Would be to be able to see ping. I don't get what is hard about coding a server browser when you have all the servers reporting back to yet ea still manage to keep fucking it up.

Two more that may be of some use.
How to adjust your FOV -Field of View *New in Retail
-In your Settings.ini we showed you before in My Documents/BFBC2 the default is FOV=55 you can adjust that up to 120 (per repi)
The FOV in the settings.ini file is the vertical FOV, people usually talk about horizontal FOV, so you have to convert your desired HFOV to VFOV using this calculator: FOV calculator. Enter your screen resolution in pixels (e.g. 1920×1200), then the desired HFOV, click calculate, and it will show you the VFOV setting you need to put in settings.ini. -Thanks to Renegade from UK forums for this info -

To force the use of all processors:- Add “+fullproc” without the quotations to your desktop shortcut or Steam game’s “launch options”. (this should be active at release)

bc2 seems to use all cores on my system, so i dont think you would need +fullproc, but i guess it wouldnt hurt to have the command

Post 38

fullproc doesn't work apparently - it used to be in this guide.

Will add the FOV tweak.

Post 41

while doesn't add to your favourite here is a list of aussie servers.

Post 42

That list is broken. Shows just none of the GameArena ones, none of the Gamers-Underground.com ones etc.

They're probably just the servers actually hosted by gameservers.com as the list is very short.

What about this one?

But they can get it to GA and 3FL? Somethings up there.

3FL cut a deal with Hypernia to host their servers. Only host who sell game server rental in Aus are allowed to have servers up ATM.

Public holiday in SA today so won't get an update from node until tomorrow.
But what I've been told is they are approved but EA are waiting on this whole server browser load shit to be sorted out before allowing more servers to be put up.

Post 46

The -only- providers in Australia are Hypernia and GameArena as far as I'm aware. Gamers-Underground.com and 3FL are through Hypernia. GameArena charge exactly 3x as much for theirs.

If Internode were approved, they would have already had their servers up. The "no more servers" rule from DICE only happened on Saturday the 6th of March.

Post 47

For those who are playing bc2 in the same network as another person. If you and another person are wanting to play bc2 on the same server and are both using the same modem. This may fix it

In Steam:
1. Go to Steam's My games menu
2. Right-click on the BFBC2 and select Properties
3. From the General tab, click the Set launch options button
4. Add a different client port number on each machine between 27005 and 27032 in the following format:

Code:

+clientport 270XX

Where XX is a different number for each system. (Do not use 27020).

This may stop the kicking issue

Post 48

Me and OD were getting that on the weekend. Nice find.

Post 49

Not so much a tweak but a fix.
It apears that BC2 is built on intricate shaders for Direct x11 and at present takes a long time to load all the shaders. The fix to force Direct X9 is to reduce those load times and thus pruduce better performance. The downside is it apears to then cause issues with some water but more annoyingly the glass shields on the mounted MG's become blacked out, to fix that you need to remove the Direct x9 line in your settings.ini............

The "DxVersion=dx9" tweak is wrong. It is suppose to be just "DxVersion=9".

Once i put put in the correct code, my mumble overlay started working. So i guess people who are having problems having mumble overlay showing up ingame should try this.

Post 55

Here is a Handy little trick i have come across. Now I need to find out how to unbind my Joystick keys from FOOT. Nothing seems to work :)
Anybody with Windows 7 having issues with:

1) Pings not being displayed in the server browser
2) Being kicked from the game
3) Random disconnections

Solution: Run with administrative priviledgesBFBC2Game.exe; found be default in:

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2
For those who don't know.

1) Navigate to the above directory
2) Right click on 'BFBC2Game.exe'
3) Select 'Properties'
4) Move to the 'Compatibility' tab.
5) Under 'Priviledge Level' put a tick in 'Run this program as an administrator'

6) Click ok.
7) Right click again on 'BFBC2Game.exe' and select 'Send to' select 'Desktop (Create Shortcut). You need to use this one instead of the Steam Generated one.

At this point you need to CLOSE the Steam client completely. You need to do this, or else launching the game will fail until Steam is restarted.

7) Exit from any Steam windows, and right click the Steam icon in your taskbar (by the clock)and select 'Exit'
8) Use the shortcut you've created on your desktop to launch the game

REASON: The administritive privledges you've granted the .exe file will not work if the app is launched through Steam (which we're not running as Administrator).

I can now see servers and their pings and sort/filter them. there are acutally some low ping servers.... :) :)

Just a note that I've updated the 'server favorites' code to include all 4 GU servers.

Post 58

To get localized voice in the game, you will need to modify the gamesettings.ini file located in my documents. The ingame menu doesnt seem to change it at all.
CarRadio=0

OriginalVOForEnemyTeam=0 <--- change this to 0, default is 1

Also changing CarRadio to 0 to disable the ambient sound while in a vehicle.

Post 59

Added new tweak that should improve hit rego.

Post 60

what ping are you supposed to believe for that exactly? the server browser where it says 70, if it says anything, or in-game where it says 200 :)

Post 61

Tried the server tweak and yes it managed to fix the hitbox's however it raised my ping considerably. I tried several figures form 75 to 155. As Pala said which ping......

Post 62

In previous battlefields it the rego tweak didnt improve rego, it just changes the the client side view. Maybe in bc2 it might be different. oh well

SOLUTION FOR THE RESPAWN FREEZ:

Add the BFBC2 folder in your "My Documents" to the anti-viruses exeptions-list. [ I've checked, and its the only folder who needs to be added ]

^^Careful with that one, not sure if fully disabling a feature for the game's sake is just such a good idea...

what you sookin' 'bout aegis?

Post 68

the game, following that nerf bat attack, is now shit.

knifing is far worse than ever before.
the mortar strike is less effective than a bucket of water.
i now get horrible black flickering when i walk near a building - destroyed or otherwise (nvidia driver update didn't fix this and it wasnt happening before the patch).
the M60 is now a better sniping weapon than any of the sniper rifles.

but the knifing is what really shits me. out of probably 20 knife attempts last night, i got 3 tags - normally that would be closer to 15 -except in this instance i swung and missed up to 5 times on most of the attempts including against at least one sniper who was stationary as i moved around him trying to hit the fucker.

Post 69

Most of my issues stem from the lag type being experienced. Knife kills were still simple enough for me and I found no graphical glitches. Weapons have been nerfed a bit to much as some produce way better than they should. I guess it will be another patch.

Post 70

two types of lag: network and graphical - i definitely dont have graphic lag (unless that black flicker is indicative of something worse) and my ping was the same as ever. at the suggestion of someone on mumble I checked the pings of the people i was trying to stab and only one had a bad ping.

Post 71

i didn't experience any lag issues, I did however have to stab a sniper in the back 4 times before he died... Me thinks there also has to be a way to stop retards from taking the chopper and bailing just to get into the fight quicker, leaving me to perish in the burning wreak after the pilot-less chopper crashes and burns.

Post 72

Knife nerfed eh? Good. Sick and fucking tired of unloading a whole clip into a guy at point blank range and him swinging a knife once and killing me instantly.

Post 73

that's a different issue entirely, OD.

Post 74

How exactly have they nerfed the knife? Is it a range thing? If shorter, how is that a bad thing? It was ridiculous before.

How?

Post 76

What was changed.

Blue improvements, Red nerfs.

Post 77

This has changed the whole game for me. Back to the drawing board regarding my weapon choices. I can't believe they've done this. So stupid.

i dont believe they've done anything directly to the knife, it just doesnt register hits 95% of the time now instead of the previous 20%. also that range thing on the knife is lag.

Quote from OverDrive;382263:
How?

your issue is that a full clip doesn't always guarantee a kill. my issue is that a purely pointblank weapon is barely working at all.

the full clip/no kill thing can happen anytime - not just when someone's about to knife you. it's just more prevalent when trying to fend off a knifing because people panic and hold the trigger down then more than they do at other times and sustained fire almost guarantees not all the bullets will hit (in this game) no matter how close the bad guy is.

i don't care what your feelings about the knife are, when you cant stab someone who's standing, unawares, in front of you by the 5th attempt, that's a problem.

Post 79

knife should be instakill from behind, and do no damage at all from the front. it's not hard.

Well if your the victim thats about to get knifed, you have about 70% chance of surviving the first stab

I agree completely.

Post 82

stupid idea. for one: knifing already has a greater failure rate from the front -see being shot. for another: huh? htf would you justify that?!

Post 83

A good rule that we had in a Tournament that we used to hold weekly for BF2 / 2142 for AOW Tournament that we were only aloud to knife once all your primary and secondary ammo were expended. It is better for the whole battle to shoot someone 10 foot away than to knife - you have less chance of dying in most if not all situations.

However I do note this is not a Tournament it is Pub play.

Post 84

Quote from Aegis;382284:

easily. the problem is that it should not. ever. be possible to run straight at a guy unloading an m60 at you, and kill him with a knife. ever. not even remotely.

Post 85

this is true, the gun should kill you if the guy has half a clue about aiming. that shouldnt stop the knife working if he fails to hit you though - or not be shooting, or be trying to knife you right back.

IMO all the guns should do 80-100 dmg at close range (say 12 feet) then have massive falloff to their current levels shortly after that

Post 86

at the range you need to get to to knife, aiming shouldn't even be a consideration. the fact is its a frontal attack and should be mitigated by the expectation that you're a trained fucking soldier, and not a muppet.

Post 87

might as well make it a movie with AI players in that case. there's a lot of things that shouldnt happen in the game because you're a trained soldier - the least of which is the inability to hit someone charging at you - but they do. at least your issue can be mitigated by playing the hardcore mode - it's a *lot* harder to get the rambo frontal assault knifings in that mode than standard.

Post 88

no, it's not the 'least of which'. spraying bullets at someone charging up a narrow stair case, only to have them leap the last 25 stairs and knife you in the face for an instagib is downright fucking lame.

Post 89

it is. the inability to push my way past a sapling the diametre of my thumb has killed me far more times than a failed spray at a knife attacker. not to mention pilots who most definitely aren't.

Post 90

hah dont start on terrain bullshit. i found a set of fucking stairs i had to jump up.

From what i can tell its a lag issue. People with lower lag have the upper hand. It seems that this has gotten worse tho with the new patch.

Thanks for that one Spiritwalker. Was suffering from that problem.

Post 93

any tweaks to stop disconnects upon connecting to a game? (or max 10 mins after round start)

Post 94

hmm running steam in offline mode seems to have fixed my bfbc2 connection to server has been lost crap

Post 95

thats weird aegis

Post 96

given the issue started for me with the steam UI update - maybe not so weird at all. :/

Post 97

I have a new problem with the game. it started since i downloaded from AMD the latest patch driver for my Graphic Card ATI 5970(2gb) because of the battlefield 3 problem with login . now everytime i enter battle in BC2 the monitor starts flickering black and back to the original game display fast. only in Low Graphics settings it stops , since now i played at very high settings. i have quad core i7 3.5 ghz, ATI radeon hd Club edition 5970 m 4 gb of rams...
