Need a good Video Converter

i have badaboom but only converts to MP4. I am after one for files like MKV, MPEG, AVI, H264

i have found an awsome video converter for CUDA (FREE!!!) media coder hq

Handbreak Is a good free one, really really easy to use, load up a queue and its quick, uses all 4 cores.

I haven't used Media Converter HQ but if you want to sample a couple, Handbreak is gold.

AVI, MKV are containers, not codecs.

MP4 and H.264 are generally the same thing. Both AVI and MKV can wrap around H.264 content. But what ph3n said. Handbrake is a pretty sweet utility - at least it is on the Mac, can't say i've tried it on the PC.

It will also rip straight from DVD.

this one Here can code up to 575p (350FPS) using a video card geforce 8 or better. Ii used my GTX285 and converted files from DVD upscald to 1080P (56fps). and if im converting lost of files on it ill use my 8800GTS 3rd card for it and still play games

mencoder - does it all

take a look at the one i found (link at 2nd post) it does every little thing from video to audio types like Flac, WMA, MP3HD and there is about 30 more formats for audio and theres every video file types to convert to it even reads RM formats and suppots res from 128x96 up to 1920x1080 and does it all on the video card a full movie like zombie land took me about 8-12mins to complete at 1280x720 from DVD with AnyDVD enabled

"Super" works for me. Sometimes. :P

Don't know of any free ones but if you have access to it adobe media encoder is pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up on Handbrake. What a brilliant program shits all over Super for ease of use. Great UI, great quality (using MKV's) and the holy grail - transcoding on the fly direct from the CD Drive, no ripping required! I am currently loading all the kids DVD's onto my home network, no more "Where's this dvd gone" :P
