Be aware folks, I cannot confirm this, but tonight i recieved a steam mesgae from ev[V]vol about the following steam promotion at Steam Community. He went straight offline afterwards.

At first I thought it was a joke and didnt bother as honestly I cannot remember this this guy. Half an hour later i get the same from [hos]Phoenix whom I know. However the page was slighlty different as it didnt show all the free games. So I messaged him and it seemed legit. He then went offline. and my Steam shut down.
I attempted to log back in and got that my steam account was in use by another computer.

I am not saying that Phoenix did this.

Did anyone else get this tonight, or is this legit and I was just ironicaly unlucky..I ende up being abe to retrive use of my account by resetting the password......

UPDATE... I can confirm Fleshy just received the same sort of thing supposedly form myself...BEWARE FOLKS IT IS NOT REAL

Phoenix is just another victim.

Mass Steam hacking is in play.

Post 3

I know....hope Phoenix is able to fix his account, i was able to reset my password, going to try and get on a game or two and see what happens

Post 4

my computer crashed while reading this thread. SOMETHING IS AFOOT.

Post 5

I got a few invites tonight to accept chat. Also check if your email is verified correctly

Post 6

I got a few requests to chat from ev[V]vol and someone else coming from Darwin Gamers as well.

I ignored them and nothing so far has happened.

Post 7

Same here tonight. Was SMSing with Phoenix before and he's peaking that his account got done. He's trying to get it back.

Definitely a bad one. Fortunately I smelt a rat immediately. They're trying to be sneaky by joining groups you're in (the guy/bot who tried to ping me was in the HOS group).

Hope anyone who got burnt can sort it out quick smart.

Time to clean out groups?

Nah. Just time to continue being diligent and not clicking on links... even if they are from your friends.

Post 10

yeh i neally clicked it and then i read the address...

anyhow... the ONLY free games & mod on steam are listed in their forum : Free Steam games list - Steam Users' Forums

Post 11

I didn't click on the links - because I automatically figured their accounts would have been hacked. If I knew them, they're not the type of people that would send that shit. If I didn't know them, I wouldn't click anyway, regardless. Anyone who sends me a link I don't know, seemingly legitimate or not, I block them and remove them from friends.

Post 12

The type of message I got from Evvvol was pretty suspicious in itself; so i didnt click on it.
Good to know my paranoia is warranted =)

Post 13

Tis a good lesson to learn. I admit i went to the link after talking to who I thought was phoenix. I guess that i am lucky enough to have picked up the ramblings at the bottom of the page at the same time my account got locked.
Being able to reset my steam password straight away seemed to have done the trick, checking of my router logs shows no attemots or unauthorised acces :)

Post 14

hah got the message from evvol about 30 seconds after i got a message from Chips saying he got the weirdest random spam from the same guy =) trying to get a hold of chips now to see if he actually clicked the link...

I thought it was dodgy and didn't follow any of the links (5 requests in total). The real kicker was the message I sent craZy asking why he's sending me this link and the un-craZy like reply of "that link give games for ur steam". That pretty much sold me on it not being craZy or legit.

Glad you got your account sorted and in order.

Post 16

I got it from Crazy before Evvvol. didn't click, all good.

Post 17

yea i got a couple, ignored them.

Post 18

I got 2 last night as well. I actually accepted the first guy as a friend, then saw the link and blocked em as fast as I could.

Post 19

i had a feeling he got hacked. I got the message also from ev[V]vol about free games from steam crap! best rule would be is to disable hot linking to sites and so forth from steam altogether (Chats mainly)
i dont want to hit links due to having alot steam games (207 total sofare)

Post 20

I got nothing, no love for evil :'(

Post 21

I'm glad I was too busy to even look at the messages from phoenix.
Sounds like it was nasty.

Post 22

I'm just glad I don't have any friends

Post 24
