seriously though, check to see what you have that might be accessing the line, any fax software would be a prime suspect. Also try to disable anything that might be trying to auto register itself through your modem.

Well basically XPs installed and running, but I can't dial into the net. It says the phoneline is busy, however, we're not talking about the isp, somehow, XP takes over my phoneline (Iam 56kmodem), and makes it useless. If i have my comp started up in winXP, I can't even make a normal phone call, because the comp is hoggin the line, even though its not using it for anything specific. So when i try dial up, it says my phonelines busy, well offcourse it is, XPs making it busy....... How can i fix this?

Tried lots of stuff, didn't work. Help

Have you tried turning off "Check for Dial tone before dialing."?

Sometimes that helps... Though it should just work.

I recently had a funny problem where I could connect to Octa4 and NOT DingoBlue... The moment I aksed them about it, I was told it was my fault, and I could suddenly log on again. ^O^

I have tried with it on and off, both don't work. And i doubt its the ISPs fault as I can log in using win2k but not winXP(I have XP/2k Duel boot).

Not something silly like trying to dial up with a domain specified in dial?

xp connects to the net fine for me, but I had to get updated modem drivers. The modem xp picked up mine as wasn't right, and as such it didn't work!

New drivers and the thing goes like a dream.....

Post 12

mine keeps loosing the comm port the modem is plugged in to, and tries calling it a rockwell modem even though I installed it with its true drivers - a little irritating, but I can live with it - might just need to buy myself a newer modem with win2k support
