This is a problem I had myself, most nvidia chipsets have this problem.
If you find you can't get over 60fps in HL no matter what you do, it's because of vsync. Simply go into your video card options and disable it... Then you should have no worries of getting it up to 99.

Also, there's a problem with nVidia chipsets in Win2k, whereby games run at 60Hz refresh rate, instead of what you have specified in your display settings.
To fix it, download the utility found on this page. http://tweakfiles.com/video/nvidiarefreshratefix.html

HELP!!!
When I disable vertical sync, you are right, my fps increase from 60 to 100, but it seems my pc can't hack it in some fashion. My mouse won't move smoothly while I am walking.
Tried limiting fps to 85 with fps_max, but this also does nothing for the mouse movement.
As soon as I turn vsync back on, no problems at all!
I used to get about 85fps in WinME with no probs, so I know my hardware is capable of running smoothly with at least this amount of frames.
I am running - WinXP
P4 1.4 GHz
ASUS P4T mobo
ASUS GF2MX (32Mb)
Am I destined to only play with 60fps?
Anyone with any ideas, please post here for me, as I am prepared to try most things.
Yes, I have run the nvidia refresh rate fix patch.
Hoping for some answers......

Yes, this was an ancient topic, but I am pretty new to the forums, and it was appropriate to me.
Have run the refresh rate fix (as mentioned in my post) and with vsync on I get 60, but off I get 100.
Anyone else got any ideas???

With ‘Vsync’ on the frame rate in games will be in sync with your monitors refresh rate. So if you set your refresh rate at 75hz in the display properties then in games your max frame rate will never be higher than 75.
If you turn Vsync off your frame rate will go flat out as fast as you computer can pump them out. Only problem is, with it off, you can end up with poor visual quality depending on the game etc...
This is caused because when it’s out of sync you can have one frame displayed on the top half of monitor and the next frame on the bottom. This gives a shimmering or jittery effect when you are moving around and can be pretty bad in CounterStrike.
Turn off Vsync if for some reason you think you need 100FPS........leave it on if you prefer the best visual quality....
Hope that helps [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/smile.gif]

Oh I forgot the point of my post. If you are getting 60FPS max with Vsync on then it means that Windows thinks that 60hz is the max refresh rate for your monitor or video card at whatever resolution you are running CS in.
You have run the refresh rate fix but did you set up the different refresh rates for all the different resolutions when you did it?? Start the refresh utility again and just check what rate is set for the res you run CS in.
hmmmm does this even apply to WinXP I don't think so ???
Perhaps 60hz is the max for your monitor or video card at the res you are playing CS in ??

it also depends how u installed the patch
if u install it so it sets to your monitor max refresh rate and ure monitor can go above 100 hz in that res u wont get 100fps instead u will get the max ure monitor can do
If u install all 100hz in all res u should be fine but.. i m not sure how ure monitor will handle 100hz [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/biggrin.gif]
