win xp pro and cs problem

Can anyone please advise me how to stop cs crashing when i press (esc) during a game to go back to the cs main menu.

It is very anoying.
Is anyone getting sucky fps under xp, while playing cs. I use to get 100+ under win me, now i get 60-70 under xp with the new xp drivers for gforce cards.

Have you turned off vsync? for fps

Where do i turn off vsync, had a look around in settings and shit, could not see it anywhere.

Card is Asus gforce2 mx 200

Vsync is under openGL settings, in the advanced section of display settings
