i have had so may lockups since going to 2000 its painfull and u hear that its a soundcard conflict or sumthing well i took out my soundcard and used onboard sound got same lockups do i realy have to go back to 98 to get reliable pc???

You've probably done it but,
get ALL the latest drivers and maybe look at flashing your MOBO BIOS!
Its probably not the OS, but conflict resolution management! ( Heh, are'nt they all!)
Also check out Bob's problems, it maybe an IRQ resource sharing problem!
Set it manually in your BIOS if you can!

ok got 4 things on irq 11 but try as i may even reading book there is no way to assign irqs just get option to assign to pci or dissable soon as i disable ACPI shit crap thing pc wont boot just loops back to boot up so much for $400 motherboard there all crap buy the cheapest gear u can and save money ya gunna upograde in 6 months anyway so ive seen the light now expencive gears for muggs!!!

Hey Kahoona, I got similar lockups on my system (you know what it is [Blocked image] ) but I have win98SE.
What used to happen is the computer would randomly lock up and you couldnt click on anything (no error msg, nothing!) and if you clicked some more the system speaker would start making sounds everytime you clicked. So I had to manualy reset.
If this is the same problem you have, maybe you can try the fix Crusher told me.. Go into your bios and look for a "system default" or "normal" settings. Load and save those settings and restart.
The changes I saw in the bios were some memory timing settings and I found it changed the AGP apeture size to 32Mb.
Dont know what this does performance wise(haven't noticed a difference), but my system hasn't locked up for weeks!

And Kahoona go back to basics, strip the sucker bare of all but the vid card and mouse. Disable the ACPI!
Then roll the OS onto it! Sort that, then start adding the other garbage one bit at a time.

ok seem to have fixed it i hope i think wot dun it was i went to amd page and downloaded a reg fix thingy for amd/2000 called large page or sumthing like that been couple of days now and no lockups (but im also useing o/b sound so gotta try with sound card again)

Glad the patch fixed it, had a mobo once that had three capacitors missing on the southbridge, u think that wasn't a bastard to find!
