I played campaign on hard, so I just finished final mission tonight :P
also I'm rubbish at RTS.
Dragon and I are putting along nicely in the 2v2 Bronze league. Currently sitting around 40th. Done 25 games already.
Finished off most of the campaign on normal (still have a a few achievements to complete) but thiniking about doing it all again to get the hard achieves.
Finished the Campaign on normal. Started some 1v1 ladder and working on the challenges.
Working towards getting into gold league in my 2v2, got ranked silver with 4 wins, 1 loss
doing pretty well, but could be doing better :)
Brain do you mind posting some of your replays for others to have a look at? I would be quite keen to learn on how you guys do things.
on the hard campaign and playing 3v3's with house mates pwning suckers :D
I'm playing team games compulsively, but haven't yet finished single player.
I'm ranked Platinum in 1v1, but most certainly don't deserve to be there.
In certain 2v2 and 4v4 teams I'm in gold. For 3v3 the best I've managed is silver.
My stats/info page: StarCraft II
im getting completely pwnd since this is my first foray into multi
so theres a secret mission in the middle, and if you miss the trigger for it... you can't just play it from the archive, you have to start from a save at best.
fuck you blizz.
Having not played any strategy games for well over 15 years, I loaded the game for the first time and jumped straight into online multiplayer. Needless to say this ended in tragedy with my "defense" destroyed in seconds.
So after a good 8 or so hours practicing - doing tutorials in the game and some of the challenges, as well as heaps of vs AI on easy and medium - I went back on tonight. The first guy kinda just beat me I reckon (hard to tell considering my n00bness). The second game tonight was against the Terran(s?) which is the race I use. I won that game. I'm really starting to enjoy this and it's becoming a bit less intimidating. I do know that I've barely scratched the surface though.
My biggest downfall is grouping my forces. Gotta practice that. :P
Looking forward to spending more time on it...
screw grouping - go protoss, load up on carriers and let the game engine handle it for you ;)
The biggest key to successful multiplayer games, once you understand basic unit counters, is build orders. Economy is king. You want to be building an endless number of SCVs to mine minerals and gas. Never stop. If you have too many workers at your base, it's time to expand. Most importantly, you should never have any minerals or gas available to you. Build, build, build. Never stop spending, find something to build! :D
Ultimately, if you don't beat them straight off the bat, and you're not doing the above, you will get outproduced, and thus overrun.
I echo this....
NEVER STOP BUILDING PROBES!!!!
if you have money building up, BUILD MORE UNITS!!!
Yeah I did figure that winning is economy based.
Had another two games last night after I posted. Both times got smashed by an early attack. I guess it's finding the balance between defensive and offensive forces...
As Terran, my build order is:
Max SCV
2x supply depos on either side of entrance
1x gas
1x barracks between supply depos to block entrance entirely
2 more SCV
Put an additional 2 existing SCV on gas (3 total)
1x barracks
Turn command centre into orbital command (using mules is a massive economy boost early on)
Tech lab on first barracks
2x Marauders
Reactor on second barracks
8x Marines
It varies of course, but that's pretty typical. And from there it opens up and can be dramatically different based on what the enemy is doing.
My build order is based on this Husky tutorial:

Where is your scout rec? :P
My team mate scouts. :P
That's pretty much what I do! Except blocking the entrance. Will have to start doing that. The double barracks technique works really well.
Although what are you saying about "mules"?
man i really wanna get this game, but I think ill suck at it... plus when you play a game like civ you have think about your opener a tad longer :P
GI; mules are the large, yellow SCV-like miners that can get dropped from the sky onto your mineral patch, once you have upgraded your command centre to an orbital command. They are far more efficient - you'll see your mineral skyrocket. Great for getting out loads of infantry during your opener.
Awesome. Will try that now.
Getting caned today. Haven't won one. A few close ones though.
:\
Turn on build grid in the options makes placing your wall easier. If you want to try some cheese run a scv into their base right at start and drop a barracks and bunker in there base and start pumping marines. When/ if your bunker gets overrun lift it off and fly it back to your base. Don't forget to keep building your main base up while doing this.

More fun cheese is going all in with an early planetary fortress drop :P
GI; stop playing against other randoms in 1v1 for now. Get into some 2v2 games with someone you know. That way you're constantly sharing ideas, knowledge and just generally learning - rather than just beating your head up against a wall.

There's only 1 supposed secret mission that I know and heard:
1: go to your archives (if you've already finished the game) and play on the stage when the celebrations are on and you get to use the Thor...
2: head to the bottom right sometime during the game and destroy the large building there and a protoss part will appear
3: collect it (get a unit to touch it :p)
It is at this point when you get to do the other Ghost mission ... [sorry I don't know how to do the spoiler alert thingy]
Also is it just me but I am getting really sick of playing the same maps every time! like the 3v3 Arakans (i think that's the name/ spelling of it) ... something needs to be done to encourage to play the other maps.
Like:
Join a game type (eg 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, FFA)
Then the server randomly picks the stage!
One more thing ... Playing on ramped stages are quite boring!!!
Battle.net does automatically pick the map. It's only custom games that you choose it.
You can set up map preferences in your account if you opponent has these set he will normally get his choice.
Best way might be set your map preferences to everything but that map.
cool thanks ... will do that when I play next
hmmmm, am still waiting for a GU match-up :p

Yeah I did the mission from the archives, it doesn't unlock piercing the veil. Had to reload a save from media blitz and do it from there.
hmm weird ... after I finished the stage (as I mentioned before), I went back through my archive list and found Piercing the Shroud
Oh well its nothing much
Played single player for ages last night and ran into the card overheating problem. Hopefully fixed now with the little two line addition to the variables.
Had the maddest game just then. Went for an hour and ten minutes. Epic win.
My record is like 5-20 now... :\
We shall play tonight, yes?
Im up for a GU matchup :)
mines Balthasar 550
I just need a time to be on (Darwin time)
