Ten days ago Simon posted in his blog that Internode would be expanding their easy plans (uploads counted) to compete with iinets 1TB plan and Telstras lower cost 200G plan.
The info was: 100 GB for $59.95 200 GB for $79.95 300 GB for $99.95 600 GB for "09.95 1000 GB for "59.95
I was extremely happy with that offering but in true Internode fashion they have upped the stakes again. The plans got released today and THEY ARE BIGGER and the 1TB is cheaper !!!

All plans are available now online and are cheaper again if you bundle your phone with them (which I will be sure to do).
Sure don't, but just got back from Europe and haven't uninstalled it yet. I do plan to, though. Part of what makes these plans great is not having to worry anymore.
It's already at the point, even with "1TB" plans, that they should just make them truly unlimited and be done with it, like providers in Europe and the USA.
A tiny, tiny fraction of users will use anywhere near that, so even if a handful use far beyond that, it's a mute point. As a recent survey conducted in Europe showed, the region's peak individual user was doing around 3TB per month, and the next closest around 1.5TB.
I stopped using MUM ages ago. It was really annoying.
I just use the sidebar gadget now (or whatever they're called). It's smaller and always there, and you can still access radio from it.

Meh about the plans. I'm happy to stay on my 240GB plan for now... until the day comes I need to buy a data pack. Unfortunately I've been running low on hard drive space for a few months now. Time to build that 10TB server!

Just looking at Usenet options. Astraweb is USD "3 a month for 805 days retention, 20 connections, SSL, 99% completion. Grand total AUD $85 per month, still saving $75. And now I get a static IP without an additional cost of an Internode "SOHO pack".
Dan has been with TPG for a year with no dramas. In fact, their network appears better:

If you've gone naked you should be deducting what the landline spend was per month from your $75 "saving".

I was paying line rental when on Node's t-shirt plan. Now I'm not. Even if I were on Internode's T-shirt Naked, it would be an additional cost that is the same as the line-rental anyway.
The TPG naked plan is only "0 more than the non-naked.

Whichever way you look at it, it's unfavorable for Internode.
As for staying - they've got 17 days to update their plans to be competitive with $70 for unlimited. That's when my Internode month ends, and when I'm having it disconnected and TPG switched on.

They're stupid reasons for staying.
All I care about is my quality of connection, and the value for money (as most customers do). Tests prove they're as good if not better than node on network performance, so that's a moot point.
With all that in mind, here's the crunch: TPG is half price. That's the bottom line.
There's a chance I might care more about them being Australian, if they weren't overcharging Australians by 100%. Dan was just reading an article today about Australian retailers kicking up a fuss that more people are shopping from overseas online stores instead of in our shops. Well don't price gouge us, and maybe we will.
A good example is both pairs of my sunnies, which I paid $200 inc. shipping for from Italy. Locally, they were $430 and $480. It's not a small mark-up. It's extortion at 100%+.
And 20ms is a notable when you're looking at the same technologies from the same point of origin. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a better network, it means it performs the same or better.
I linked to the Whirlpool thread because I thought it was a balanced (as much as a forum can be) view on this exact situation. I didn't post it to try and prove a point (if thats what you thought I was doing). If you're saving what your saving then its a no brainer I suppose.

Customers are not a charity. If your business sucks, or is hugely overpriced, the fact you're Australian shouldn't be enough for people to continue spending money with you. That's just outright stupid.

Yea i'm not sure but it would suck if it rolled and they didn't refund :/ Will be interesting to see what speeds I can get with this, I'll also be needing to pay Usenet subscription now as well. At least I'll be able to download!
I couldn't find the yearly subscription only the 3 month one on Astraweb. You on the Unlimited DSL one rec? I figured that would be the one to go for faster speeds.
I dunno what more TGP could do for discount the prices are already fkn awesome... Tho would be nice... "Hi we have a whole gamers forums wanting to churn too your services, could you maybe throw in some energy drinks, naked women or some maccas vouchers. I mean Internode did offer a pony and a shirt..."

No, I can't provide more specifics right now, but I'm optimistic enough that I wanted to post this short note for those interested, in the meantime.
What I *can* say is that the next plan revision won't have this the interim 'speed downgrade/upgrade' process in it ? it'll go back to being a 'normal' plan change. w00t.
Will be interested too see what Node come up with. Oh well only 6 months with TPG, not too long. Can't imagine the new plans will blow TPG out of the water, probably just on par but will have to see. Hope I don't regret this churn... xD
Well I'm on TPG now and everything mostly seems the same. Oh except for the fact that I'm downloading now 1Mbs on average now (as opposed to 150kbs), I still don't think its proper ADSL2 tho. Pings seem around the same possibly a little higher. I reakon i'd get the same speeds on the 8Mps plan and thats "0 cheaper (I'm on the ADSL2+ ^appartently^ even tho every other ISP said it's not available), any thoughts on this?

TPG uses TW hardware. So im guessing other ISPs would say adsl2+ isnt availible because they dont have their own hardware or allowed to use the telstra dslam equipment
hmmm, im on Exetel @ $68/month 100Gb peak and 120Gb off peak using ADSL2+ (though provided by Telstra) and I get around 1Mb to 1.7Mb download speed (using Internet Download Manager) and for an extra "0 you can get 200Gb :D
But the most think I like about Exetel is that they change the plans for you (only if it is better than what you are currently on)!!!
highest ive got was 1.6Mb now but my Usenet provider only has 20 connections and goes normally 1.2Mb, if it had 50 like giganews i bet it would sit around 1.6-1.7gb. It feels waay weird, I queue something and by the time I find something else to queue the other has finished. I'm in love with the internet all over again woop woop.
