do u have an ASUS motherboard? i got a mate at work same thing happened to him, turns out a windows update caused an over or under voltage (cant remember) and it wouldn't detect more than 6gb.
I recently had the same issue and after much hair pulling the only fix was to to reinstall Windows. Mine would only detect 6 out 8Gb.
think you might be onto something, i notice only 6GB is detected in the bios :S
however 9 is detected in windows ? lol wtf
I have a gigabyte X58 chipset board.
perhaps firmware update might fix it / voltage :S
I did however just install one of those hybrid drives made by seagate ?
hmmmmm
Theres a few things you can try.
1.Update Bios
2. Memtest
3. Reseat modules -usually works
4. Clear cmos/bios
5. Possible issues with cpu pins
6. RMA

Now that I think of it I had my trouble around the same time I installed 2 hybrid drives in RAID 0, I think it was also after a windows update, it also only showed 6Gb in BIOS, I tried all the usual, re seating ram, updating BIOS and so forth. I think what I did was reinstall windows on a standard drive and all was ok so I then reinstalled on the hybrid drives and everything has been fine for about 6 months now. I don't recall ever finding out what the problem was.
The mate from work also installed a hybrid drive around that time... could be an issue maybe...
yeah i've tried everything i can think of, still can't figure it out.
i guess when they say has 3 gig solid state must share with memory too :S
perhaps ill install 6X4 gig chips and see what happens lol
