ADSL without a phone line?

Just moved into a new place and don't want a phone bill just internet. Ha now I don't mean Naked ADSL as we all know it's not available to Darwin. I do work with someone however that has Dodo internet and once upon a time a Telstra phone line. Telstra manged to fuck up one of his bills and cut his phone line off... but his internet kept working. So for the past 6 months he's only had to pay for the internet bill.

So this raises the question, what are the chances that if I where to acquire a phone line, get ADSL going then cancel the phone line would it all still work? Would be interesting to find out as I was told they can't fully cancel the line if you've got another subscription goin through it. I'm interested to know peoples thoughts...

Same thing happened to me at a previous address. No idea what sort of sneaky strings you would have to pull to force this scenario, but it definitely happens.

Post 3

doesn't always work had the phone disconnected here and first we noticed it was the adsl disconnecting.

Are you sure hes not paying Dodo for the phone line as in a bundle deal? Internet + phone line rental.

This just sounds fraught with possible tragedy to me. Just pay for the service you want. It's quite a simple concept.

I don't want to pay for a car, but I want transport. Do I just steal a car? No I don't.

*shakes head*

On the other hand, telstra are charging his isp to use the adsl port, and the line, then charging him for the voice line into his house which he doesn't use.

bring on the single charge nbn connection.

It was obviously a bad example. You get my point.

I'm not saying it's fair. But life isn't.

Post 10

sooooo what's your point then?? that it isn't fair for him to get ADSL without paying for a phone line? wait, you just covered that :P

Post 11

It isn't fair that you have to pay for line rental if you just want ADSL. They should be available as a package by default.

But as I said before, life isn't fair. The fact is you have to have a line to get ADSL and you have to pay for it. That's just how it is. What the OP is suggesting is obtaining this through nefarious means, which is dishonest. That's all I'm saying.

You really are obnoxious sometimes.

A friend has had his home line dissconnected due to bills not been paid on the home line. However the ISP was still been paid and was working for 4 months after the fone was dissconected... So it is possible just you would have to talk to the right people,.

Naked ain't a possibility as it's not available in Darwin. As for my mate no he does not pay for phone line period. Like I said since Telstra cut him off by accident he never bothered to get it re-connected but has had working internet with Dodo this whole time. I see others have also had this happen and as far as the consumer concerned it's not fraud or anything cause Telstra are the ones who fucked it up originally.

Just found out Telstra ceased their pre-paid home service ("4/month) on December 1st, the next best thing is the budget $21 deal. I've looked at other home phone providers and all of em say not available in your area so stuck with Telstra. Looks like I'll just have to pay it and see what happens down the road ;)

I'll eventually reply to this thread when either

a) I have internet with no phone line.
b) I end up in cort

Lets hope it's not the latter haha

Post 20

Or the very likely.
c) I have no phone or internet and have pay reconnection fees on both

Post 21

You can't get ADSL on budget. Unless it's with Telstra. That was the case last time I checked anyway.

All ADSL is from Telstra in Darwin.

Just needs to be a Telstra Wholesale port.

Post 23

Ah ok. It must have changed then? Or not. *shrugs*

You can't have HLB with another ISP DSLAM, telstra wholesale shit is fair game.
