I love the comments for lasting appeal.
Obviously IGN have never seen Counter strike or Quake.
The whole 14 levels of prestige in black ops was fucken BS.
The game needs a little bit more work done, sure, but a 6? fuck that. i enjoyed every minute of it that i played last night - even when my sound cut out for a whole level (came back at end of the round).
i don't like that tats, scars and face choice are permanent - as thought they're trying for some social commentary on how shit like that stays with you forever. I do like the customisation engine, though it's far more limited than i expected (still spoilt from Champions and City of Heroes i guess).
some of the objectives could do with an increased radius - eg: the defend one seems to require you to stay within 2 feet of the objective - but last night my team had pinned the enemy VIP which gave US a defend objective on him to stop the enemy from getting him going again. But we had shut him down in a massive open area so we had to stay in cover around the edges meaning we got nothing from that defend objective.
I've spent a good 5 hours with it. It's a decent game, but it's also a huge disappointment at the same time - and that's because of the unfulfilled promises and lack of polish. Review coming.
Review is up: http://gamers-underground.com/content/939-review-brink.html
I really don't get why people are disappointed? This games exactly what I thought it would be - and it's awesome :P
Im with you lenko, loving it... yes its not polished as well as TF2 was at launch but still very well done.
And FUN... thats my main thing, im over the "real" shooters atm.
Will be better once we get a few mates together and can actually co-ordinate the maps, playin with randoms atm is like pulling teeth.
Aussie Brink is unlocked!
early ey... nice
watching some of the 5v5 matches on thebrink.tv man some of these guys need to get a life, they are ripping it up on a game they have only been playing for 2 days.
Guys pulling of crazy shit, makes for a good watch.
Well so far I haven't been able to play it -_-
Downloaded it last night (5+GB). Then got home from work today to decrypt it, only to have to download 3.4GB more. Once I finished that I opened it only to have 1 frame per 5 seconds. So I close Brink and verify cache and defrag the game. Then try opening the game again only to have the updating pop-up say just gotta update before play.. To which is the 3.4GB I have to re-download..
So far not a good experience with the game.. But, this is a part of every single bloody first day of a game I've had to endure so I guess I'll just have to bend over and take it like every other person... -_-
P.s I'm so glad I have a 1L bottle of vodka while I wait again for the next hour as it re-downloads....
that's weird man, had no issues like that
is it just me or do ppl find, even with 50-100fps the game still doesnt feel smooth, gets shuttering or somthing when going AiS or using SMART?
No stuttering or FPS drops for me and I'm on a mid-end laptop.
just played some "single" player, heaps better no lag, but as soon as i join an games.on.net or GameArena server SMART stuttering, AiS/Sprint stutter.
I get the Sprint stutter in multiplayer, and i get a few lag spikes, at times i get killed and there is absolutely NO one around, but apparently i was shot.
i read that theres a bug that makes some players invisible for no reason on certain maps so that may be it.
Oh and it looks like Steam has fixed the region-fucking release date workaround.

Oh and we got screwed for pricing.
Now dropped on Steam to 59.98. (down from 89)
Also steam have dropped the price of BRINK to $59.98USD, for the pack that includes the primo guide + game, yet somehow regular Brink is still $90 lol
BRINK on Steam
Edit: Damit jay u beat me lol
Must be a complete flop for the price to reduce that much so fast.
price hasn't dropped, its a special,....
a few gaming news sites seem to think its a mistake
yeah it's clearly a mistake - they forgot to region fuck the price on that is all
They have fixed the price, now "04.94 for the package deal.
Ah there we go, region-f-cked.
yea i noticed that brink was $59 on the aussie steam store earlier today, was gonna get it but decided against it.
bought fable 3 instead lol

sooooooooooo Splash Damage's answer to the online lag issues is to give lagged players 4v4 matches instead...
Quote:
We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.
In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for ?Campaign? and most ?Freeplay? modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process ? resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.
For players who haven?t been experienced lag, we?ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ?Big Teams? configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

BAHAHAHAHA its sooo true... i was in a corridor with 4 medics and not a single one revived me and i was the only engineer on the team and i died trying to complete the mission.
man i was pissed
By the way - found an easily exploitable bug that allows you to effectively get infinite xp per match.
Just involves two people (one on each side) hacking and de-hacking an objective for as long as you want.
yeh i noticed that would be super easy, i got 12k xp in 1 legit round as the only engi by removing this hackers hack to about 2% then running away coming back and doin it again lol.
Cheaters! :P
It's a legitimate Strategy!!!!
lol :P
Played about 3 hours of Brink today and liking it more than I had initially. I'm starting to get over what it isn't, the broken promises, and just accepting it for what it is.
I'm playing a light soldier and choosing teammate-escort objectives rather than location based ones - pretty cool being a body guard and helping them complete map-winning objectives.
I'm damn close to uninstalling it. RAGE! So disappointed with it. Playing it made me want to go and play Boredlands due to the art styles of the two being somewhat similar. I'll give brink a month or so to work out its bugs, or until I've finished LA Noir (when I get it), give the devs a chance to add some polish, but yeah I'd still play BC2 over this any day of the week.
Yep, Bad Company 2 is certainly far better. My opinion that Brink is a 7/10 game hasn't changed, but I'm over my anger at Splash Damage's aggressive hype machine now and am just playing it despite it not being what they said, or what I wanted - and it's fun enough.
I'd give it 5. It doesn't really bring that much innovation to the genre, the parkour system is almost pointless (cept the slide), its like they took parts from TF2 (objective based team work with individual tweaks), COD (the gun customisations and perks), Borderlands (art style graphical interpretation) and created a big lump of coal, except there's no diamond in it once you've delved into it a bit more, there's just more coal, and disappointment that this lump of coal they hyped up to have diamonds turned out to be nothing but coal. I'm going to go destroy some buildings in BC2. lol
I just wish it would allow you to switch body type in-game. sometimes you need a big gun, and if, like me, you primarily run as a scout - you're fucked. that aside, really loving it now. I like how rare it is to go down to a single hit. i like that i dont get stuck on 3 pixel wide door frames (TF2!). But yeah, still a few annoying bugs to be sorted.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing Aegis - would love to switch out body types on the fly :/
also i've discovered why the average medic doesn't heal you! Tried running as medic last night and 5 different team mates killed me for chasing them to give heals - assuming they thought i was an enemy operative, but still..
I've only played on 1 FF enabled server so not had that issue, it just seems that people aren't interested in wasting there PIPs on you, they are more interested in keeping themselves alive. its rather annoying, and stupid cos you get more points overall actually being a medic for your team than keepin yourself alive.

Absolutely; they're idiots. I get 20-something points with every ammo handout I provide, and constantly handing them out is one of the reasons I'm able to top the scoreboard consistently.
I have a Screen shot of a game i played yesterday, i shit you not 10k points, top scorer.
i then looked at the overall best players
best over all (Me)
best medic (Me)
best engineer (Me)
best soldier (Me)
Most kills (not me)
there was 4 guys complaining that i got top score without getting most kills, i think the closest was 6k and 3k.
Accused me of 'hacking', people just don't understand the concept to the game.
yeah, kills give crap-all xp
Which is AWESOME in an objective based game.
yup
another thing the game needs - better curb stomp detection. getting sick of trying to pistol whip downed people, but sliding through them instead.
lol yeh see that happen lots Aegis.
mind u at the same time i love watching people shooting downed enemies at point blank instead of stomping them.
waste of ammo anyone lol
I just use my melee attack - which I think is a knife on downed enemies.
depends what you have equipped - SMG or bigger = butt stroke; pistol = knife. but you have to crouch to hit them (fair enough) but if you run over and crouch, of course you slide right through and the attack *always* seems to miss downed enemies when you slide.
for those that dont have the spec ops pack and want one, pm me.
gu regulars only of course.
Hi everybody,
I bought Brink for roughly about 20 dollars, but the person I bought it from is saying I need to have activated VPN client to activate, install and play the game (it was mentioned in the auction I didnt read it thoroughly). The key arrives tommorow but I need to know why I need to have VPN client activated, can I run it without it and can I get banned for altering the IP adress? (also if not, which software is best for altering IP adress for this situation?)
You shouldn't need to use a VPN, unless Steam now region restricts game activation the same way they do actual purchases.
If you do need to, you'll just want to search for a VPN trial, one that lets you connect to the net via the relevant country (origin of key).
You shouldn't worry about getting banned in any case. A noteworthy percentage of Steam users have been spoofing their location for years to get cheaper deals.
So I got photo of Russian Brink and when I try to add it without VPN or with VPN client I have (CyberGhost) It keeps saying I cant do it from my region. Any tips which VPN client has russian IP?
Both Overplay and StronVPN have Russian servers:
- StrongVPN.com is VPN service, offers security and anonymity for personal use
- http://www.overplay.net/

Thanks for tips, but I was hoping for one with trial :( (I am kinda broke now) And if I would use VPN to activate and install the game do I need it to play?
you wont need it to activate.

I am from Europe; czech republic and when I try to activate my russian Brink key it keeps saying "This item cannot be activated from your region" or something like that. So please help me someone.
You'll need to connect to a Russian VPN, as discussed. I'm not aware of any VPN providers that have access to Russian servers and do free trials, sorry.
I have photo the box with CD-KEY, should I try contacting steam support that my "friend" was in Russia, he bought for me Brink as gift and we are both sad that I can activate it? :D

oic. My mistake, sorry. I think Annonymity VPN has a free trial doesnt it? Home ::: AnonymityNetwork.com ::: provide Virtual Private Network

I am afraid this wont do, I must have russian IP to activate it since it can be only activated from Russia.
