i have just managed to get out of my vodafone contract 13 months early, due to continued shit service and network.
im now looking at joining up with the devil (telstra) as i need a phone and network that will be able to use reliably for work and play, more so for work.
after some rooting around ive come to an impass.
either the Samsung Galaxy S2 Samsung GALAXY S II
or the HTC sensation HTC Sensation Product Overview - HTC Smartphones
After many days of reading and watching reviews, playing with both of the handsets and much deliberating with myself, i still cant decide.
The Galaxy is winning atm marginally due to the 16gb internal memory and the super AMOLED+ Screen.
however i dislike the look and feel of the GS2, and the touchwiz interface samsung use.
The sensation feels nicer, looks nicer, and the HTC sense 3 interface is brilliant. downside is 1gb internal memory, superLCD screen.
The Samsung is also significantly better performance wise according to a few phone benchmarks i've views ran on both devices.
anyone have either of the phones and would like to add and pro's or cons to the list that i should be aware of?
Go the Samsung. HTC are a great phone, I've got the Desire. 500mb internal is not cutting it, I have to root my phone soon because of the bloatware. And I can image that in the future 1gig won't service. The GS2 will last longer, I can't say much about the interface, but if it's that bad go vanilla if it's root-able.
I think comparing the first Galaxy and GS2 is a bit wrong, they are very different phones. I find the Galaxy to compare to the Desire, and it to degrades over time as well. They are all like computers, they might need a clean slate now and again.
I'd go the HTC, I find the build is better on the Sensation. Also doesn't have so much of a iphone clone feel to it. Even the otterbox for the Sensation doesn't look like crap like the GS2's one.

hows the screen on the sensation? as in brightness and glare wise? i love the look of the super AMOLED over the higher res superLCD. Notice any issues with internal storage running low due to app usage?
No complaints about glare or brightness. The screen res is a bigger bonus than an AMOLED screen in my opinion anyway. It's still not quite as good as the iPhone 4, but it's very good.
In the end i went with the SG2, the internal storage and super amoled+ won me over, the resolution of the sensation was great, but was dull compared to the S2 and even compared to my nexus1.
its beautiful to watch videos on, way too light, but i found a few places that sell metal battery covers and cases. see how we go.
OK, this might be trolling, but, almost every response here said to get the HTC, and you got the Samsung, which makes me wonder, why did you ask at all?
i wanted some opinions, i was always swaying towards the Samsung purely for the internals. I thought i'd get some feedback from people with either phone to help me make the final decision, i also read 20+ reviews on both phones, and watched 15 vid's, went through whirlpool and other forums.
Overall the samsung was better received and in the moment felt right for me.
i had them both in my hands at the telstra shop and i have to say the pro's of the samsung outweighed the HTC. HTC is a beautiful phone, but its just missing some very important features IMO.
I really haven't had any dramas with my sgs. I flashed a custom rom for 2.2.1 and that ran fine, currently running a stock 2.3.4 and apart from facebook being unusable it's been pretty sweet.
With the HTC Evo 3D just announced I know what I'm getting :D
Girlfriend is getting the Sensation instead, because she can't see 3D anyway so will be able to compare them side by side when it finally arrives in September.
Even so, the ability to record in 3D @ 720p is worth more than the extra 3mp on the camera from getting the sensation, which is literally the only difference in hardware - 3D Screen and 3D camera vs normal screen and 8mp 2D Camera.
Have to admit that after having played with both the Samsung and the sensation over the weekend (missus bought the HTC), so far not regretting my decision, phone runs smooth as silk, looks amazing, the HTC definitely looks a little Dull compared. the Samsung actually feels like a small tablet.
but all in all, both very nice phones, and very happy with my purchase so far.
I played with the SGII today and it was this lump of laggy shit. I really hope it actually isn't like that and someone just messed it up (it was the display model in a shop). Beautiful big bright screen though...
If I can have 3D without sacrificing anything of value at all why not? Even if it's a gimmick, 5mp to 8mp on a phone camera is irrelevant anyway. And if the trade off is I get to ave some 3D stuff...
Besides it's not like it's not just as good in 2D as the Sensation etc anyway

cant say I've noticed any lag mate, I've been giving it a flogging to, i have also turned off all the crap that's on by default. im sort of trying to hit it as hard as i can for the first few weeks to stress test it, i have noticed that both the SGS2 and the sensation get a little hot after a good ten minute session of use tho.
Im just bumping this thread but I have had the Samsung S2 for about 8 months now and its a beautiful phone. I've had no problems.
So I just ran over it with my car this morning - not a heavy car I drive a Mazda 3 & it was basically just rolled over. Screen is hit with a bunch of impact cracks, it basically looks like it shouldn't be working at all however the phone is not bent or damaged other than that touch screen/camera everything works amazing.
screen replacement is $220 @ NT phone repairs or I order the parts off ebay for about "50 & do it myself. Samsung quoted me $399 just for the parts ...wow
id like to see the Iphone 4 surivive being driven over
LOL nice, yeah ive drop kicked mine twice and grabbed it off the bench and thrown it (clumsy fingers) and it still doesnt have a scratch, i love the gorilla glass, and after having it for the last 6months+ im yet to find another phone id swap it for. Ive haven't even bothered with a case for the last 4 months, its just not needed.
never been happier with a phone purchase in all honesty.
Just got the Galaxy S 2 HD LTE, im glad to hear its durable (assuming its not too much different build wise). I got a zagg screen protector on the way but cant find a good case for it yet.
