Server Side Fix Released!

Valve have just (30 mins ago) released a patch for HLDS / CS. I will copy and paste the exact changes from them below, but as you can see there are a few Linux specific ones which will interest us as they are directly related to the lag issues we are having (as opposed to Win32 admins who are not having as big a problem).

In any case I will be trying the 2 different ping booster techniques to see which is better suited.

Lets hope all goes smoothly and it does its job so that we can bring things back to normal.

3109a_changes

"HLDS
====
- Linux: Fixed server using 64 MB more memory than it needed to.
- Linux: Added -pingboost command line parameter. Currently supports two different methods ('-pingboost 1' or '-pingboost 2'). Only one method can be active. Method 2 is the same method used in the old 3108 hlds_run_test beta build. Method 1 is a new method. These may not work well (or at all) on some OS environments.

hlds_run script
===============
- Linux: Added "-debug" flag to automagically run gdb and pull out useful info.
- Linux: Quits script on "quit" from console, restarts on crash (via "-restart" flag).

Engine
======
- Fixed incorrect WonIDs/SteamIDs in logs.
- Fixed 'undefined symbol: __strtouq_internal' on some Linux systems.
- Fixed sv_allowdownload being required to be set to 1 for clients to connect to secure servers.
- Fixed segmentation fault on some Linux systems when attempting to run in secure mode.
- Fixed 'bad address type' fatal error on servers that attempt to run in secure mode but have no DNS resolution.
- Fixed DropClient messages for Steam clients who were banned or have a duplicate Steam ID to properly show the SteamID of the client.
- Added logging of the anti-cheat system catching and kicking detected cheats.
- Added logging of "kick" commands.
- Added logging of "banid" commands.

HLTV
====
- Fixed HLTV reporting wrong spectator numbers if connection to server was pending.
- Fixed "multicast 1" not working if it was issued before HLTV connected to game server.
- Added "serverversion", can be set to '1108' to view/re-record old demos.
- Added new debug message for mod makers if a packet couldn't be parsed correctly.
- Fixed relay proxies reporting wrong spectator/slots numbers in multiplayer/LAN menu.
- Changed error message if clients try to download missing resources to be more helpful.

Counter-Strike
==============
- Restored "mp_fadetoblack" server variable.

DMC
===
- Fixed DMC powerup bug where the invisibility ring would make people glow red."

Notice much WHEN? I only just installed it... You'll have to wait till it fills up before you'll notice any difference.

I'm interested in how the PATCH is working.

I thought that would be quite obvious.

Well i tried to go into server 1 but it crashed or something while i was connecting so i went into server 2 and it was alright but i havent really noticed any change. So i stayed in for a bit and had fun planting the bomb on stuff [Blocked image]

BTW server 1 seems to be getting alot of packet loss when i ping it :(

Post 14

Hopefully yes it will - it should stabilise the server and decrease pings plus fix a bunch of bugs. All good things.

BUT, it has yet to be tested and there are different configurations available - just a matter of setting it up (which has been done), packing the server (which HASNT been done due to the Optus link outage last night) and seeing how it goes compared to what it was normally.

Remember, I'm on 56k as well, I want this to work just as much as you guys do [Blocked image]

Post 15

I still cant get over this bit..

What a cockup..

Post 18

Martok.. Its Only 64Mb

Post 19

64 MB is still a fair bit unless your running servers with more than 512 MB.
