Alrighty, just got a brand spankin new 80 gig HD (w007!!) I've connected it up and all but it didn't work on one IDE cable so I had to swap it's place with my second HD. So how my second HD can't work, I've messed around with the IDE cables to no avail. My Mobo can supposedly support for IDE thingos (3 HD and a cd player). I was thinking as the 2nd HD is now a secondary slave (I think :|) Do I need a secondary master or summat?

Someone help, I want my movies :(

Dun worry, it works now for some reason :D :D :D

Scratch that, I don't have a CD ROM drive anymore

How have you got it set up?

If you try running the HDD on the same cable as your CDROM it will be evil and slow it down. But have you tried running it on the cable select jumper? cos if you do that and plug it into the second plug on the IDE cable (preferably the one that has a HDD on it not CDROM:) ) it should recognise it as a slave

Basically it should work as long as you have one drive on the cable as master and one as slave or both on cable select. EG: HDD's usually primary master and primary slave (done automatically by cable select based on which plug on the IDE cable its plugged into), then on the other IDE cable they are secondary master and slave.

What do you mean running your HDD on the same cable as your cd-rom will slow it down, I think you need to be a bit more specific, that will only occur if the HDD is placed after the CD-ROM on the cable from the motherboard, I run each of my HDDs on the same IDE as a CD-ROM and get ATA100 (all my mobo supports)

Some HDD and CD-ROMS are temperamental, I had a HDD that REFUSED to be a slave with another device no matter what I did, so I had to make it a master and be happy with that

I ask again ruin, how is it curently set up and not working?

Well I've got two of my HDs (C and D) on one IDE cable setup as primary master and slave, then I've got my CD ROM and my third HD on the second IDE cable. The third HD is currently setup as secondary slave...

Post 8

then the cd-rom needs to be setup as master.

Post 9

How do I do that?

jumper on the back of the drive

should be three options:

C S M
S L A

: : :

cable select, slave, master (in some order, probably got it wrong)

there will be a jumper covering two pins, in a vertical fashion, make
sure it is the two pins under the 'MA' label.
