Ok I have a 12x burner that thinks it is a 4x apparently, I thought it was software, but I did a full reformat today and it didnt fix it, so I was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing this by hardware??
incidentally it is a 4x rewrite but im not using rw

If anyone knows I need to hear about it quick cos I have slightly less than a month on warranty :D

it could be the cds, my spiff new 48x burner only writes at the speed it thinks the cd can handle, ie, these teacs it writes at 16x, the cd that came with the burner, it wrote at 48x.

interesting theory they are new cds
but they are supposedly 24x cds :P

Yeah when they you put the CD-R in the burner reads the info off of the disc and the software sets the max burn rate at that.... but hmm.. dunno. Maybe they are reallly dodgy cd's or maybe they have the wrong shitsor written in them.

Have you tried other brand of CD-R's with it? Try setting the burn rate higher - like overide or something.. maybe the burning program/burner is just confused or the CD has the wrong info on it (long shot I guess).

There should be no reason for it but if it keeps up maybe try flashing the firmware... Not that it would probably help but hey whatever tickles your pickle.. flashing works for me.. oh yeah baby can't go anywhere without a good flash  :)

Bah ok I hope it is this problem,
Well at least this is what happend to mine.
I assume we all use Nero here, oh well doesnt matter anyway because I forgot how to do it 8)

When i first got my 32x burner i chucked a 24x cd in and did a burn, but to my suprise it burt at 12x. Of course I was very bitchy with it

I found an option (somewhere in the properties, soz I cant remember where) called justspeed, im not sure if it is something dedicated to my burner or not. Anyway I turned it off and now it will burn at the speed i tell it to.

Hope this helps people, goodluck

ummmmm sorry, this problem presented itself in three different applications, clonecd, easycd, and cdrwin.. and your cd burner was faster than the cd rating, mine is slower, so is almost definitely a different problem :P

crazy c says i just need new firmware drivers....
