Don't install it in the first place :) Gater is like major spyware.
But seriously, go to http://www.lavasoft.de and download Ad-Aware, it'll rip out all the spyware from your computer.
And for blocking ads, get something like Norton Internet Security which has an ad-blocker.

Ad-Aware won't rip out the DivX codecs, it'll only rip out Gator that got installed when you installed DivX.

U can uncheck the box for everything
And just leave the actual codec install box checked..
Works as U will need it..

search your comp for a file called gain, then delete the folder its in :)
No more Gator, no more annoyance :)

whoever mentioned ad-aware had it right. very handy utility.

Flamm all the above are correct. However may i suggest you remove the divx you installed then run AdAware. Throw away divx unless you want to encode and install the Nimo Codec Pack. Be sure to uncheck the G400 filter and the cubic resizer. This will install all Video and Audio Codecs and the decompressors. You will also end up with a few other handy proggoes that you probably wil never use

I think I'm going to have to post my article about Ad-Aware I had on the news a couple weeks ago, every week so that people get the idea.
As above you probably downloaded the supposed 'complete' version. There's not much difference the ad-free version, just some of the advanced features you definitely wouldn't be interested in.
