:) like tec ? 500 terrabit hds :) not too far away, ill try to find the link :)
Just think wat would happen if it got into the wrong hands :|
At first I thought they meant an actual force fieldish sort of device.. where they drove along and mines in the ground blew up in the distance as they got close enough or something and the same for rockets, etc. Oh well.. :)
But shit that's pretty cool.. I think I've seen something about it before actually. I wonder how small the individual plates have to be. It'd make sense to have hundreds or thousands of small individual plates to maximise its efficiencey and prolong it's life in defensive terms... I mean from what they said there.. once the armour's gone off once that's it :?:. However unlikely.. you don't want 2 or more guys shooting you one after the other in the same place. I guess that's taking things a bit far though isn't it - that's pretty much never going to happen.

The plates are seperated by a dielectric layer, and there's so much charge stored in the plates that when the copper HEAT jet is vaporized, there's still enough charge left behind to blast a second incoming RPG-7. However, whack it with too much at one go, and it'll run out of current, and its performance will be degraded for a while after the first hit while it recharges.
Anyway, since the copper jet is completely destroyed, the functioning of the armour is NOT impaired permanently. Sure you've got a hole in the charge plates, but hey, who cares? The plates aren't touching, they still hold the charge, so no problem :) And even if you get hit again in EXACTLY the same spot, it'll still hit the plates, which will still cause the jet to be vaporized. Mostly though, you'll get hit again in different spots, which just blow more tiny holes in the plates.
So no, it isn't a one-shot deal.

Yeah you're right. Wasn't thinking very well :)
its pretty scary how they can make something like that
and they aren't far off from making transporter.
id love to be around for another 100 years to see what they come up with :D
Don't worry Korny.. look at what's happened in the last 50 - 100 years and how far we've come. The next 50 years should be enough to make you happy :)
Dr. Karl from Triple J reckons that we will either be the last generation to die or the first generation to live forever..
They still are far off from creating teleporters. They've only been able to teleport streams of photons which is slightly different whole objects with trillions of atoms to pinpoint.
Now thats a scarry thought. I think we are a couple generation away from that though. Think of the population over crowding then.

*lol* Transporting a single photon (a boson, a force-carrying field quanta - hell it's not even a particle, well, sorta) through a miniature wormhole is a totally different matter from transporting unbelievable quantities of REAL matter (ie, fermions), and still preserving their appropriate quantum spin, location AND energy :) It'll be a long time before you go "beam me up, scotty".
Anyway, not to knock the electric armour technology, but it's not really that much of a huge leap in tech. It's just a conceptual jump - using a big capacitor to blow up metallic-based HEAT warheads.
Previously used ablative armour setups were basically shaped-charge detpacks mounted on the tank's armour, so an incoming HEAT warhead would set off the shaped charge, causing an explosion to blast in the reverse direction to the HEAT's warhead, negating it. But those are heavy, and vulnerable to accidental discharge, as well as being a one-shot deal (per satchel, that is).
