Desert Eagle .357!

I went to the pistol range, and I noticed someone there was selling a Desert Eagle .357. I didn't take his number, but there are one or two posters there with numbers on it. Since I figured a vast majority of you all play CS, I thought you might be interested in buying the genuine article. A couple of things tho':

1) I'm not selling it, and I don't know (personally) who is. I just saw the poster at the S.S.A.A part of the gun club.

2) It costs about $2,700 dollars, I believe is his current asking price. An expensive toy.

Plus you would have to have a gun licence.

Just a bit of info.

The true Desert Eagle made by the Israel's is a 50 cal hand gun not 357.

It kicks like a mule is huge to hold and very expensive on ammo.

The first Desert Eagle was actually a .357 :)

Also a .44 before the .50

Who cares what calibre the things is - at least theyre all Desert Eagles, although a .50 calibre would be nice :P :P :P

Which reminds me - Do you have to be 18 before you can go for a pistol (gun) licence - also anyone know the regulations on it.

To throw a spanner in the works here - I heard a buzz that the govt is considering banning handguns almost completely bar singal shot ones. The cops will still be able to ahve them though.

Whilst I wasnta huge fan of the govts earlier policies (banning pump action 22s - what a joke) I think this move makes sense. After all- what legal things that you need a handgun for that a normal weapon will not do ?

Post 7

one word. TEXAS.

Post 8

theres no point to a gun. you cant legally kill somone so why bother...

Re; Aravi: - Yeah, you need a H class gun licence, which covers (quoting from the application form for a shooters licence, obtained from the Police) "All handguns, including airpistols."

Re; Lataf: - Incorrect. :) The Desert Eagle is chambered in .357, .44 and .50 caliber. However, true, it DOES kick like a mule (The .50 cal version; what do you expect?) and is very expensive on ammo. But I was talking to a gunsmith, and he said that the Desert Eagle is not, in fact, a very good gun; only if you use factory ammunition, which is quite expensive. If you use lead shots, when you fire, it shaves off small bits of lead inside the barrel and after about two or three magazines it has to be cleaned. Damage can occur, as well. High muzzle velocity and uber-sized rounds, true, but it's generally an unrelyable weapon. However, it's intimidating; almost all people assume that all Desert Eagle's are .50 cal, so if someone creeps into your house at night, you could very easily get away with some bullshit about it. I mean, they are not likely to try and read the text on the side of the weapon when you've got it pointed at 'em.

Re; Danny G: - I wouldn't be surprised, but I will be disappointed if it is true. /beginrant Outlawing guns doesn't work; you create a situation whereby only criminals (black market baby) carry weapons and law abiding citizens are forbidden to. Besides; a bullet can be traced back to whichever gun fired it, if you owned the only Desert Eagle in Darwin, would you use that weapon to commit a crime? /endrant

Re; Rainwulf: - Texas is cool.

Post 10

Thats a good point.

Criminals ignore the law, so a law against guns won't achieve anything.

too many tv shows man...
they can only trace a bullet if they have the one that was found on, say, a crime scene.. and one to compare it to.. if your dumb enough to let both of these get into the police's hands, after comitting a crime, then, more fool you.. you deserve to be caught.. but, hey, i gotta agree with you.. why bother with a 3000 dollar pistol when you can buy something that does the same thing, and would be harder to trace for less the 1000... you guys would prolly call me stupid anyway.. all being cs players.. but id MUCH prefer to be using a ruger .22 pistol, over a desert eagle.. mainly because of reliabilty, we still use one that my old man bought about 30 years ago.. its never missed a beat.. and has had server thousand rounds through it =)

Right on the mark, Sardok.

In Australia, it's illegal to go hunting with a pistol. That rules out using the DE .50 AE for hunting large game. Anyway, in all honesty, you'd be better off with a TC Contender with scope in .40 H&H. Better accuracy, more reliability, and more effective.

So, here in Oz, pistols only have three real uses. Showing off, target practice, and defense.

It's widely considered that a .45ACP is more than adequate to bring down a human in one shot. It's got enough power to deliver quite a bit of kinetic energy to a human-sized target, but it's not powerful enough to punch through the body, wasting energy. Hell, a 9mm is good enough for defense. Carrying around a .50AE pistol for "self-defense" is just massive overkill.

Showing off? Sure, go buy it. Brag about how it's got one of the biggest bores available on a handgun today. Then experience the effect of leading on the rifling, sore hands from getting booted by the thing, and the aggravation of getting spare parts when they inevitably break down :) The polygonal rifling of the DE _does_ reduce fouling, though - and the use of copper gaschecks on hand-made reloads would help quite a bit too.

Never mind that a .45 or a 9mm is definitely more of a pleasure to shoot on a regular basis. I've put a hundred rounds through a .44 Magnum S&W revolver in one shooting session - and let me tell you, the muzzle blast gave me a splitting migraine (yes, I was wearing ear protection - it's concussive shock), my left hand was numb, and my arm was twitching for quite a while afterwards. Yet, I can do the same thing with a 9mm, no hassles at all.

Another note. Most people who bust into your house aren't going to look at you holding a pistol and think "Hey, that's an IMI Desert Eagle. They usually come in .50 Action Express caliber, which would surely hurt me pretty bad". They think "F*ck, the mark has a gun! I'm outta here!". Nobody is gonna stand there and laugh at you when you're pointing a loaded firearm at them - .22, 9mm, .45ACP, or .50AE caliber.

Re; Flammable: - True. But the simple fact is; I'd rather have a gun and never use it, then need it and not have it. I'd rather know how to use one then not. You never know when you just may have to defend yourself, even today. I mean, who'd of thought it was dangerous to go to a small cafe in an old colonial prison? If just one of those people was armed, the result may have been far different.

Re; Sardok: - Not true. :) I had a lengthy discussion with a forensic scientist on this very topic. The hammer of any weapon leaves a mark on the case of the round it hits upon; this mark can be analysed, and typically the make, model and rough age of the firearm can be determined by it, assuming any parts of the weapon havn't been replaced. If they have, sometimes that can be found, too; I'm not sure, but he said something about carbon build up inside the barrel of the weapon... when the round leaves the barrel, it gains small particles of carbon on it, and they can analyze that carbon and tell with reasonable accuracy how many rounds the barrel has had through it, and how long ago (although, a well kept, cleaned, oiled weapon will have hardly any buildup on it, and most of that will be recent). They are pretty tricky with these things. Of course, most of the above is voided if you use a revolver; no case left behind (unless you're an idiot and eject the shells on the crime scene, in which case, yeah, you deserve to be caught)

Re; Darkwolf: - Yeah, no hunting with pistols. Aww well. They can still be kept as collectors items. You make a good point, however. Gun's a gun, and dead is dead. And, I wholeheartedly agree. I mean, seriously; a .50 cal weapon? Are you trying to knock down a building here? I'd much rather have a .22 Beretta (which I LOVE as a weapon) and fire three times the shots in the same time as it takes me to fire one .50 cal round, and, particularly as I am not a very strong person, I would have a much greater chance of actually hitting the target. All the arguement about about stopping power vs firing rate is bullcrap; if you hit someone squarely with a .22 round, and it's good ammunion and good powder, they WILL go down. You can't just shrug a gunshot wound, human beings a very frail things. But you make a good point. If you want my personal opinion, the best weapon for home self defense is a pump action shotgun; powerful, loud, and with a very distinctive 'warning' action. However...

My opinion on home defense is this. Pulling a firearm should be a last resort; an ounce of prevention is better then a pound of cure. It's very difficult to kill a person; you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life, and that affects different people to various degrees. To some people, it can really mess them up; to others, well, you entered my house, you forfeit your life. When it comes to shooting, things are very bad for everyone involved. As I said, human beings are very fragile things; there's an off chance the other person may have one too, and who's to say they won't draw faster then you?

ud just give them a reason to shoot u, u wouldnt be any where acurate enought to be effective, in the event u need it ur vry unlikely to be carrying it(eg being in a cafe with a pistol)

Post 15

How long is the barrel? because theres like 4 different sizes the .375 got sold as.

Post 16

I don't know the length of the barrel, sorry.

And, I agree; it wouldn't be very effective. However, I'd rather have it then nothing. Granted, I might not have bought it to a cafe, but yeah.
