That was a bit of a mouthful. To elaborate; Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is now being played by Americans right across the United States - that's if they've downloaded the additional 300mb patch which delivers "assorted fixes, some perf improvements, fov controllable via Settings.ini (fov=55 default I think)". An official patch change-list is expected later today...

As for us Australians, Milenko points out in the BC2 release schedule article that pre-loading is now available! If you're still seeing "Bad Company 2 Pre-load" and/or "Bad Company 2 Beta", restart steam to be graced with "Bad Company 2" in your games library, with the option to start pre-loading. It's coming down at a miserable 150kb/sec at my location - let us know if you're having better luck.

The world is going BC2 crazy right now. From the official Battlefield blog:
The BC2 site is experience a high amount of traffic and is having intermitent accessibility!
Please be patient while we work on resolving this as quickly as we can.
Oh, and a Steam update has just been released with some critical fixes. Just in time for our BC2 pre-load.

guess there's something to be said for having to wait an extra day ><

Post 4

Mine came down at a steady 1.4mb. Just waiting on the unlock now. I did have to apply the latest steam update and turn off steam watch to get it to start downloading.

Post 5

have you updated steamwatch with the latest IP list from node? Internode :: Residential :: Entertainment :: Unmetered Content :: IP Address List

updating with those sorted out AVP for me. (assuming you're with 'node of course)

Post 6

No I haven't done that, however it all arrived as un-metered content so no loss.

Post 7

Still slow for me, about to restart Steam again.

I usually find if I'm downloading at 1mb+ it's from Australian servers and un-metered. If it's about the 300k mark, like it is now, it's coming from abroad and counts towards my cap.

Why the fek can't we make a location preference anymore.

Post 8

*envy*

Post 9

You can - just run the older version of STEAM :p

Post 10

hmmm 750kb a sec. Thats about average for me, im on iinet.

Post 11

does it really matter if its 140k or 1.4mb/s... wont be able to play it when it finishes either way.

Post 12

True that honky.

Post 13

fwiw mine fluctuated between about 30k/sec and 2.6MB/sec. randomness ftw.

All pre-loaded. Official BC2 countdown says 2 hours 30 minutes, while Steam says 5 hours.

Post 15

More issues. This from the BC2 blog:

We are aware of the connection issue some PC users are experiencing. We are working on a solution.

I guess the extra day of waiting isn't such a bad thing.

Post 16

Post 17

The real question is do I get up at 3am to play and have fek all sleep for work? The answer: probably.

Post 18

Since 5am this morning the dedication has shown outside Webhallen in Stockholm as queues for tonight's midnight launch started forming. Braving the -5 degree temperatures it seems they can't wait to get the game, just hoping they don't get too cold during the day that stops them playing tonight.

Post 23

Anyone who wants to play now; rezo used a hotspot shield type app to decrypt and play single player. I imagine you can do the same with VPN etc.

Post 24

Heh, just woke up and it's ready to play - convenient!

Post 25

Me too. :D

Post 26

Game crashed while loading the SP campaign and is now re-downloading something @ 200kbs.

Post 30

hmm couldnt find the server browser in the server tab - only had History and Favourites - only way I could find a game was to hit Play Now - which is always arse. Did i miss something? is there a browser somewhere else?

Post 31

You're using the server browser bottom right. Up top hit Multilplayer > Server Browser for the full list.

Post 32

ahh cool, thanks

oh, and do you have to select your equipment first time you use a class? I spawned as medic and had nothing but a pea-shooter and MG. I don't recall having to select gear from the equipment setup on first run in the beta.

Post 33

To get your Limited Edition unlocks, you need to use the second key provided. But yes, you always get the chance to specify a load-out.

Post 34

yeah i get that, i mean the defib and medikit?

Post 35

apparently opening the following ports helps with slow server browser responses and disconnects:

Port: 18121 TCP
Port: 18126 TCP
Port: 18126 UDP
Port: 13505 TCP

BFBC2 Port Information - Electronic Arts UK Community

They have port 80 on the list too but that has to be a mistake.

edit: ignore that these are all outbound ports - shouldnt need forwarding.
