[Attachment 8673]Skyrim is out and boy is it creating some waves. A quick round-up of reviews reveals that it already has over half a dozen perfect-scores, amongst many others that are very near perfect. Here are just a few of them with some choices quotes that should get even those not particularly interest in the RPG genre excited about this game.
Eurogamer: 10/10 - "It evokes a word that's overused in reviewing of all kinds: one that's best kept in the cellar in a plainly marked box and reserved only for the most special of occasions. For Skyrim though, I'd like to blow the dust off it, open up the lid, and enjoy a masterpiece with you."
OXM UK: 10/10 - "Skyrim may frustrate you at times, but it will work its way inside your skin and replace the marrow of your bones. It never gives you an opportunity to neatly stop playing. Even if you manage to tear yourself away, the locations and the people will rattle around in your head. It'll give you stories to tell your friends, (although you should remember that many people simply won't be interested), and it'll give you an entire region to bend, beautifully slowly, to your will. See you in Spring."
Joystiq: 5/5 - "This is the deepest, lovliest world ever created for a single player to explore, and one that no one should deny themselves. This is a game about following Emerson's advice, leaving the trail and finding that the most powerful force on Earth or Tamriel isn't fire or sword, but the ever-insistent desire to know what lies beyond."
Destructoid: 10/10 - "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is every single reason to love a Western role-playing game, condensed into a single comprehensive experience with nothing lost in the conversion process. It is a game that will drown those who step into its absorbing, overwhelmingly detailed world, a game that will bury you and refuse to let go."
i spent 24 hours pretty much non-stop so far, built a kind of all round solid character, level 15. AND FINALLY KILLED A GIANT!!! YES though the rewards should be better. it's so easy to get side tracked, at one point i wasted a fair bit of time just checking out the water physics, this has though, undoubtedly raised the standards i expect from future games. btw, has anyone else here who played know if the drawers in the room you get in the college in winterhold are safe for packing stuff?
12hrs played of skyrim, and seriously I only feel like I have not even scratched the surface of the game. Though the biggest issue that I've had with the game is the engine that they've used is getting a bit out-dated. At times I cannot really get myself into the game world because the aesthetics of the game is too similar to Fallout 3. I'm all-ways expecting a nuclear bomb to go off. Over-all, I really like the game and can see that I will be playing it for months if not for a years.
It probably feels like Fallout because it's a game and engine by exactly the same people, who have a habit of making shitty looking models, animations and combat.
After playing for some time I wanted a house. Though at the time I didn't have the 5,000 gold to invest in a damn house, if I could steal it instead! Anyway it seems like one of my armed guards had the keys to her house. So I asked her to trade some gear and took her keys. I then visited her house and was pleasantly surprised at all the loot she had. So i did what any good trusted hero would do. I murdered her at night when she slept after being on guard for 16hrs that night. I gleefully headed back to store my loot at my new house. When entering the front gate of the castle, I was presented with a letter from a courier. She had made a legal will, and left me 500 gold pieces, and thanked me for the friendship we had.... feel bad.... really bad..... I visit her naked burnt body on top of the tallest mountain in Skyrim to pay my respect to her friendship
That big button on the right hand side of your keyboard, the one with the left arrow looking symbol, it's call the return key. Amongst many of its uses, when typing it creates paragraphs....USE IT!
Assign hot keys via the favourites menu. simply press what number or shift + num for other hand. Also texture mods out already. Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
Just a little bit further before before, just a little bit further before bed, just a little bit further before bed, just a little bit further before bed...
Deleted my character today to start over with orc two handed warrior. After getting through 2/3rds of the story line last night. My first character was a mage with destruction skills and it seems like I had more enjoyment using the two handed sword instead. Though still highly addictive and fun.

is an orc with 1H sword and shield still fine? It seems like a bit of a weaker start then the high elf.
Still fine nroug7, if you go mage specialization go to the mage College of Winterhold and do the quests there to get some great items. Last night the game was more 'fun' with a 2h sword, or 1h + shield in combat comapried to running away all the time if you go down archers or destruction magic. I could just really suck at mage class, though I'm having a blast with 2h weapons.
Yeah i did mage specialization with my high elf, spells felt powerful early on, but even if you get more powerful spells later on enemies can often survive your onslaught of spells even if you have high magicka. and the necessary perks.
Same way I felt nroug7, it was fantastic early like you said. Just blowing through the enemies. Then at 1/2 way through the game, and at level 10 the difficulty curve just ramped up. It got to a stage where wolves would attack, and either I had to use a game glitch to kill them, or start running backwards shotting fire in their face. Though, then I learn't you can buy NEW spells from buying books or finding spell books in the game world.
My general grip about mage vs warrior, is for handed weapons either 2h or 1h you're damage output is classified by the sword, plus your stamina to do critical attacks. You get the added bonus of dragon shouts, and a (free) mana pool to use to either heal, or create AI to fight alongside you. Where for a Mage your damage output is the skill and your mana pool. You need to use the mana for either healing and/or casting your spells. Then sprinting to get away from enemy if they get too close. So as a mage you have to pay attention to (mana, health, stamina) where as a warrior all you need to do is pay attention to your health. Health potions are very easy to get in the world, and so are stamina.
i've found the storm call shout paricularly useful, i got it from pale pass at level 18 (either i was underleveled, or my mage character at that time wasn't up to scratch) i've bought the spell tomes as mentioned, but the enemies are still several cut's above. anyways, the boss creature at the pale pass dungeon for storm call seemed particularly tough, it will be interesting to do it again with orc and see what happens. BTW, storm call is like one of the shouts that can bring an entire town/city to its knees with ease. im probably gonna try to find the part that is apparently near riften.
Chad, all of your gripes with playing a Mage can be fixed by the following:
Oakflesh Wards; and/or Staff of Zombies
Also as an Archer, you should never have to run away from your prey. Archers in this game are a stealth class, and benefit massively from sneak attacks. Ergo all of your attacks should be modified by sneak (as well as the stagger talent). I stopped playing my Archer after 50hrs because they're too easy.

True, the archer perk tree looks overpowered, but not everyone is going to upgrade alteration tree for the oakflesh. the main problem is that there are too many skills, to few perks, there's like 81 levels and up to 16 perks per tree average. 81 divided by 16 is 5.06, 5 skills you can fully upgrade. so therefore you have to use extreme diversification when picking perks and only pick the ones that really matter for your class.
oakflesh is novice i think, and stoneflesh is apprentice/adept, not sure. in any case, 3 points need to be invested into a certain perk to make it actually worthwile.
pffft alteration. Just spec into fire, impact and intense flames. Any melee creature cannot reach me because my spells keep staggering them, even dragons. and once you get good gear and get it about 60 and get the 50%+ damage almost everything dies in a few hits except bosses.
one thing that has changed for magic is mana conservation, have to use lower level spells more often becuase high level and damage abilities just cost too much. even after unlocking the perk.
I found the error in my way with the mage. I didn't know you could buy new spells and spells where ranked on Novice, Adept , Expert , and Master. Makes me big eyed to think I got through 2/3 of the game with Novice fire, and Novice lightning. No wonder I had to sit on a ****en tree shotting that snow beast. I thought, your spells ranked up with you.... Though, my new character two handed weapon warrior with 100 skill in illusion is a walk in a park.
