Considering rising competition from devices such as tablets he explains that "I think fundamentally the power that you can carry with you in a portable is really swamping what we've thought of as a console."
like it or not if it were not for consoles there would not be a big gaming industry i remember playing online PC games and you had to go out looking for something like a massive LAN to play in. But now the amount of publicity gaming has now and made it cool to be a gamer and for people to make money out of gaming is a nice change. There will always be haters about the console and or PC.

That has more to do with the evolution of technology, than anything else, in regards to online play. Q3A, TF, HL etc had a massive online gaming community. PC's created online gaming.
i have switched to xbox as it makes me feel more social, i can have mates around and drink and pass the controller around. there is also more options for interaction with the game ie kinect and guitar hero/singstar. gone are the days where i can be locked up in a room playing pc games.
lord help me if they every build a decent mmorpg for xbox, i would be hooked.
I think what he is actually saying is consoles will just become computers. Based on what console technology currently is (a computer with funny coding) Consoles will just become more and more like real computers. Most of us plug our computers into our TV's now anyway. So the next logical step for a console is just to become more like a PC with a controller.
Hopefully they allow more freedom in menu design and start intergrating mouse and keyboard so console ports arent as homosexual. But you really can't beat the freedom a PC gives you in comparison to the console. which has a fixed set of options most of which you cant play around with.
Consoles have made it accessible to everybody in the gaming generations. I know so many console gamers who NEVER played PC games. They've been playing computer games on console for years and they're in the late 20s and early 30s.
A solitary example is tradies. You would almost NEVER see tradies building PCs to game on. Now they make up a strong contingent of console gamers.
But the big difference is it's much more social. Nobody really plays LANs anymore - but not just because of internet play - but because you can have 3 mates come over and you can all just play on the one machine. There doesn't have to be three computers dragged along.
Xbox with a few mates in front of the telly is the new LAN.
