Okay Tech heads, due for unforseen circumstances in the next few days I will be recieving my new motherboard...

Curently I run a 40gb Barricuda main drive, and an 80gb Barricuda Storage drive. I have two spare 40gb drives....
Alrighty then i wish to install the extra two 40gb drives ( until i buy some bigger ones ). I am feeling very foolish as my knowledge of raid/additional drives is extremely limited.
Firstly
As this board is RAID do I have to set them up as Raid or can they be treated as additional drives
Secondly
Can i set up Raid on the fly or is it easier to install from scratch...
Thirdly
Anyone give me a good link to naswer all of the above........

1. you can install the two drives in non-raid on the raid controller.
2. you have to start from scratch to raid them because it needs to write the array data.

well i would of replied but i dont know much about raid
i wouldnt mind a raid mobo tho :P

There are diff setups that have diff features, striped , raid5 etc :)

Dont even bother with raid 5 unless you got more than 4 identical HDD. and they do need to be identical. just simply plug in the HDD... turn on the Raid controller in the BIOS... and thats the hard part done. :)

raid5 works with three or more hard drives. And they don't have to be identical. In fact, to really get the highest possible redundancy all three drives should be from different manufacturers.
If the drive capacities are different your total array capacity will be limited by the size of the smallest disk.
