De_dawson is based off a house i know and i tried to make it resemble it closely. If it gets popular enough, i will add custom decals and put more detail in, but the layout is fine and probably wont change for realism.
Download the map and see screenshots here: http://pub.radium5.com/~bluemani/mapping.html
If you want to put the map on your server this file should go in your cstrike/maps: http://pub.radium5.com/~bluemani/maps/de_dawson.res
Nope, i got them from joesmoe and mikezilla's packs. I might do my own textures if i deem it worth it later, go around to this house with a digital camera :)
both maps are very good. i thought milano sounded familiar. i played it ages ago. nice ambience and modeling.
the layout of dawson seems like it would be fun and the scaling of the furniture inside is good. i noticed it has very high r_speeds outside (over 1200) which could result in some lag over the net. also the outdoor lighting looked flat and very bright too considering the sunset sky. maybe increase the angle of the lightsource and decrease the brightness.

Firstly, hello again m8nkey :) havent seen you around for a while, and secondly thanks for the advice. Yes, the outside areas can gain some clientside lag, but when you consider that the spike places are in the corners of the map, it serves the campers right :). Unfortunatly, in order to get the unique style where there are lots of windows and very open household, it is inevitable that high r_speeds follow. I may have to sit down and analyse a printout of the layout to determine where the really really bad leafs can see.
As your the lighting, that was a bit of a throw in job and the sky wasnt a priority for me. I have the skill and utensils now to make my own skies, but considering this was such a small job, i wouldnt want to complicate such a small map.
Quote: havent seen you around for a while yeah i been kinda busy and i havn't been playin cs either. sabaki is the only server i play on 'cause my ISP server is full of idiots and i like the custom maps. also i'm on trial to become an official mapper for Bushido so all my spare time is going into mapping for that. here's the address to the official bushido site if anyones interested: http://www.planethalflife.com/bushido/default.asp?strPage=news
would be good to have another go of de_dawson on sabaki with more ppl. another suggestion i thought of is to give your maps a different name if you are still testing them for bugs or changes eg "de_dawson_beta" otherwise if you use the same name for the new version it won't download through CS. just display the error "map version differs from server"
