I made this a few minutes ago on photoshop, starting with the original, addidng the camo, and then the other stuff...

It is particularly for ROT Clan but anyone can use it.

screeny below.

How to install:
put the 'tobruk_705.rfa' file in Battlefield 1942\mods\DesertCombat\Archives\bf1942\levels folder.

In the root Battlefield 1942 Folder, Make a new folder called DCTextures, and a new folder in that called Tobruk. Put the AH64.dds file in Battlefield 1942/DCTextures/Tobruk/ folder.

Download it here

Play.

:) enjoy.

Beautiful work smiddy.

Would you be interested in making a pack?

Might be one way of getting your artwork known mate!!

Also, are you willing to make a few customized skins (Unique skins) for the ROT clan? If so, can you contact me please?

Use a program called gmax (made by the dudes who made 3dsmax).

Its an excellent editor will pretty much do most "popular" fps games. Also model, skin, map(?).

Registration for a serial number may take a lil bit of time but well worth it when you get it.

Yes it is free.

nope, you cant edit the actual model, unless you dont want to play on multiplayer servers... you can only edit the skin of the plane unluckily...

Post 17

Ok i got all set up. How do i get the DC/BF models in the program?

Post 18

read the above post... you cant do it in that. u can only do it in photoshop

Post 19

Yeah. What i meant was how do i get the models in the program. I have an rfs extraction program but what do i need to extract to jsut skin the models?

Post 20

the rfa file that has the actual models inside it cant be extracted, if you extract it, you cannot play multiplayer...

you extract the maps and get the nVidia DDS PS Plugin and open them up.

thats all you can do.

Post 21

I found a thread on this topic while searching google for info about the nvidia PS plugin, it has people listing how to do it in a number of different ways just try them till it works :).

Post 23

Smiddy how do i get the extracted .dds files back in the texture.rfa file once i have finished editing them?

Edit : Ohh never mind i think i got it.

Edit : :x DC crashes to desktop when i activate the mod.

Post 24

Err did I say it was specifically for BF/DC ? No...
I was referring to the program being able to do those things.
Any gamer could use common sense and realise of course you cant modify the model for everyone to see. Let alone the BF engine able to accept the model (may have some restrictions which in this case seems the prob).

So there you go - i win ;)

Post 26

again

Post 27

Post 28

How dare you insult my leet laptop  . It took long enough for the map to load with all details up. Would take even longer with AA on :(. And the game was actually running smooth when it loaded.

Post 31

Not insulting, just commenting LOL, it's a good job 8)

Post 32

wrathlon, do you play BF?

if you did, youd know that aa screws up the edges of the text to make it unreadable. and blurs all the textures.

Post 33

Or AA makes the edges of things smooth and doesn't affect the textures at all. Don't know about the text thing but who cares its only text.

Post 34

AA blurs the text but its still readable, for me anyway.

If your having probs with the textures then why not turn on some 16x AF ;)

Anyway back on topic, I love the skins they look really cool.

Good work.

I wasn't talking about jaggies on the textures, I was meaning the ones on the rotors

No i don't yet and I didn't know that, Thanx for info :)

Post 36

Killer: It might look better if you chose a a really dark green (nearly black) and a mid ranged green (bit darker than your current choice) and maybe a browny colour too, then make them into big solid blotches in random patterns similar to the style on this drawing (you'll have to copy the link cos its gay geocities :)http://geocities.com/alvmaia/Mig/29ub/UKR3.gif.

Post 37

Yeah only reason its bright is i made it on my laptop screen which makes it dark :(. Making it darker is easy.

Post 38

ill do it.

Post 39

Woot made a new cockpit and finished up the rest of skin to. Just have to mess round with the cockpit a bit more.

Post 40

theres no real need for a new cockpit, the current one is more that fine.

Post 41

Quote from smiddy:

So whats your point? The original skin is more than fine. So now I'd say theres no need for your new skin. gg

Post 42

Not really i think it looks like crap. I have got a high res photo of a cockpit just mapping the required parts to it :)

Edit : Above post was not aimed at jono.

The looks really go on preference and personnally i think the apache in DC was the worst looking thing there.

Post 43

yeh i thought it was the worse looking thing aswell... thats why i skinned it first!
