  • Voice Comms Server (Mumble)

    Type: Mumble
    Server: mumble.gamers-underground.com
    Port: default

We now use Mumble for our gaming VoiceComms needs.

The GU server is use the latest version (1.2.0) that includes many new features (see here for details).

Grab your free copy of Mumble 1.2.0 here: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ (under "Get Mumble" choose the "1.2.0").

    Recommended settings (configuration panel):

    - Tick "Advanced" (bottom left)
    - Audio Output > Tick "Positional Audio"
    - User Interface > Expand: None
    - User Interface > Tick "Users above Channels"
    - User Interface > Show channel user count
    - Shortcuts > Add Function: Push-to-Talk (set Shortcut as whatever key you want)
    - Messages > Untick all Text-To-Speech except Critical, Warning, User kicked (you or by you), User Joined Channel, User Left Channel, Text Message.

Oh, and run through the Audio Wizard + set-up Push-to-Talk (for everyone elses benefit).

    Channel Setup

New channels have been created for the GU Mumble Server for a small number of popular games. New game channels may be created upon request.

Each channel has its appropriate sub-channels:

    Aion - (GU Aion Legion)
    .../Instance #1
    .../Instance #2
    .../PvP
    .../Raid Channel

    CSS
    .../PUB
    .../War 1
    ....../Team 1
    ....../Team 2
    .../War 2
    ....../Team 1
    ....../Team 2

    Left 4 Dead
    .../Versus Match
    ....../Survivors
    ....../Infected

    TF2
    ....../Clan Match
    ........./Team 1
    ........./Team 2

The channels regarding FPS teams are not currently password protected as posting them up in this thread defeats the purpose. Passwords can and will be created on request for specific clan matches or Vs games.

Regarding the Aion channel: the majority of the users in here are members of the GU Aion Legion ('We Are Legion'). Please feel free to join these channels and say hello. The RAID and PvP channels may be password protected on occasion, to avoid any interruptions. Persons joining the Aion channel for the intent of flaming or trouble making will be swiftly ejected.

As with all GU Servers; be respectful of other users and do not abuse the privilege.

NB: When joining the GU Mumble server you may be prompted to submit a certificate. Please follow this process as it allows easier identification of our users etc.

Cheers to Milenko for setting up the above channel structure.

Does the voice server get shutdown at 1am each morning or something. Had been offline last couple of nights??

That was an issue with our Australian provider. It will be going down again tonight as we move it to a new box, but then will hopefully never be down again.

Yeah, sorry guys. It'll be up sometime tomorrow perhaps. Dan's spent the day in bed, but he'll get onto setting up the new VPS (and in turn Mumble) as soon as he has the ability.
