First NBN costings: $215 national tariffs if 80% take-up service | CommsDay

Chairman Henry Ergas told CommsDay that the end results are extremely sensitive to take-up rates. Assuming a passive optical network configuration, current retail margins and a committed information rate of 2 Mbit/s?which at a contention ratio of 50-1 provides for end user speeds of up to 100Mbit/s?the Concept calculations suggest that at an eventual 80% take up rate using a standard S-shaped diffusion process, national retail prices for the NBN would be around $215 monthly. If take-up was just 40%, the national price rises to $380.
im sure a lot will change between now andwhen it goes live but interesting anyways

You'll get an INSANE 5gb of downloads, thats over 5 million pages or the equivalent of over 16500 300 Page books!!! More than you'll ever need!!!

Let's face it, we all know it'll happen.

A couple of the comments on the end pointed out a couple of points the could have added or excluded.
        ATM's and Banks
        Hospitals + other government infuilstructure.

A point I have not seen much talk on is with all this extra internal bandwith between major citys inside Australia what about external data to the rest of the world. The only major improvement in the last 5 years has been from Pipe International putting one more 300gb/s link between Sydney and Brisbane (split in the sea) to Gwam (spelling??).

I would think that we would find a larger number of proxies 'popping' up from the large ISP's but this is generally only for http traffic, the %60 p2p traffic of total traffic figure comes into mind with this remedie.

Pricing is far too expensive at the low quota end when compared to what's obtainable now through ADSL2+.

the 100gb+100gb is the same as what i pay for my node 200gb at the moment - only with a 100/40 line

However they end up being guaranteed speeds compared to what ADSL can offer at best and in many areas it'll be either the better or only option.

yeah the 100/100 plan with the 100/40 line looks like the goer atm.

The pricing is ok compared to internet + phoneline.

Especially when telstra and optus increase the costs of naked to be the same as with a phone line.

                            Gold 300 looks ok.

Although I doubt plans will look anything like this by the time I get a chance to apply for one.
