  • Internet keeps timing out

My connection keeps timing out when browsing the web, happens in both IE and firefox.

Downloads and gaming seem to be fine though, I can have a download/game going and only the web will timeout. Can still ping websites etc.

Usually after a page refresh it works. But sometimes it happens again within 30 secs (kinda random)

    Any ideas?

Was happening before and after a reformat.

    Connection details
    ADSL2+ using PPPoA

    Downstream - Upstream
    Data rate(Kbps) 11210 - 933
    Noise Margin 12 - 0
    Output power(dBm) 30 - 16
    Attenuation(dB) 3 - 122

It's been happening to me over the past two weeks also ...
I'm connected to the Casuarina Exchange and within 1Km of it.

Then when it does reconnect, it'll only connect at maybe around 1/2 the normal (usually 20Mbps) or I've seen it connect as low as 2Mpbs.

No idea really but a little frustrating. So is anyone having these problems and if so which exchange are you connected to?

PS: It happened whilst I was typing this message

PPPoE and PPPoA are just the tunnels to get the data to your connection.

I was thinking it may be a MTU issue but that wouldnt be the case on PPPoA though. Any of you guys using wireless at all?

I've got wireless and wired. Gigabit and 100mbit I also have 3 different modems ive tried. The problem does not exist between keyboard and chair in this instance.

Tell iinet to fix it Krystin. Better yet fix it yourself and get a promotion because of your l337 skillz.

And I'm on wireless but can connect via cable if needed ... but I cannot see how it can be in any associated to how my speeds are determined by the connection of my internet from my modem to my pc.

                  ADSL
                  Type Interleave Path
                  Status SHOWTIME

                  Downstream Upstream
                  Data rate(Kbps) 4783Kb 388Kb
                  Noise Margin 6 6
                  Output power(dBm) 122 183
                  Attenuation(dB) 53 50

                  ---------------

Just as I was about to send the message above, my modem disconnected from the net and now have the following values

                  Downstream Upstream
                  Data rate(Kbps) 20365Kb 1021Kb
                  Noise Margin 6 6
                  Output power(dBm) 121 171
                  Attenuation(dB) 27 9

That first speed / sync looks like your connecting in ADSL1+ speeds (G.DMT) have a look at the modulation when you see those speeds.

i have a mate in leanyer with a very similar issue. internet keeps fucking out - internode not sure what the problem is, telstra are telling them that the phoneline is ok.

                      congestion problem?

I've been getting that issue for months at work, on darwin exchange with telstra.

No such issue in palmerston on internode.
