  • Need help identifying a movie

    As per title.

I watched this movie years ago and I've had trouble remembering what it's called.
I can't remember the actors; but I remember the vague plot.

Set in WW2; an American offensive into a forest (against ze Germans).
A telegraph wire gets cut and a platoon never receive the order not to advance. They push forward (with no support) and find themselves surrounded by German forces in the forest.

They hold off for days (weeks?) with no reinforcements or supplies.
One of them gets captured and given the offer for his men to surrender. He replies with something like 'those guys are gangsters and thieves blahblah they wont surrender'.

Any help appreciated; it's driving me nuts

two possibles from skimming that list: The Great Raid, and Battleground.

Try "When Trumpets Fade" Based on the battle for hurtgen forest. Was released in the same year as "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Thin Red Line".
