After spending about an hour verifying game caches in Steam, attempting to apply different Arma II patches, updating BattleEye anti-cheat and reinstalling the DayZ mod, I finally stumbled across Six Updater: Six Updater
It's a 10MB application that lists the servers, and if you don't have the appropriate version of the game to join that server, it grabs all the files and patches it up for you ready to play.
The entire ordeal is terrible, a throw-back to the late nineties modding scene, but for that very reason it's kind of cool. Kind of.
