  • "Old School" gaming nights

I've been off gaming for a while now, so I thought let's have a trip down amnesia lane and schedule a few gaming nights with our old favorites.

I've already setup a UT2004 server on GU so how about we start there.

Time: Friday 9pm EST (8:30pm Darwin, 9:30pm Adelaide, 10pm Sydney).
Where: Gamers-Underground.com UT2004 (Click on "Internet" if it's sorted by ping, it will be the only AU one there).
Voice Chat: GU Mumble Server - Channel: "GU Gaming Night".

So, get installing that old software

I'll put up a poll for future weeks...

When I saw the "old school" part of the title I got all excited and came in expecting to see the likes of UT, not UT2k4. Son, I am disappoint.

No matter, 2k4 is still awesome fun! Installing now!

I decided to refrain from being a smart arse.

If we're going to go old school, let's go fucking old school. Let's get some Quake TF, C&C1 or RA1 (they're free now) and other good stuff like that. Hell, even Doom 2 would be rad.

I wasn't sure how old we should go. Ease of game availability also matters.

Quake TF would be awesome, but there's TF and maps to get on top of it etc. I'm keen, if you think people can be bothered.

What about Quake 2 CTF!?! That's just a download ($9.99), install, and play affair. So bloody good.

I'm voting for Unreal Tournament or Quake 2 after this (added to list).

I'd vote for UT, but I can't since I've already voted on the original poll.

                  Fair call.

Also, UT and UT2k4 are both available from gog.com for $10 each. I've bought a stack of games from them lately and they're awesome. Heaps of classics, fair prices, no DRM, cool bonus content, modified to install and run on modern PCs painlessly and unlimited re-downloads.

I kind of suck at these sorts of games, yet strangely I am still drawn to them. Maybe I just like getting shot in the head repeatedly? Who knows. Either way sign me up.

I also ticked other because, well, it isn't old school, but I would be keen for some multi-player Monday Night Combat.

I jumped on the GU UT2k4 server and had a solo run around for shits and giggles. Ahh... Onslaught. One of the best MP modes ever devised.
