It turns out that 2K Marin has gone the way of Infinity Ward. It has just been made clear that there will be no LAN support, and no dedicated servers for the sequel's new multiplayer component. The explaination given is a contradiction in itself, and reads "We chose to spend the time we had creating a solid game foundation and unfortunately that did not include LAN play or dedicated servers." Make of that what you will....

Earlier this morning I reported on Steam pre-orders for Aliens vs Predator and Bioshock 2. It seems Australian gamers are being royally ripped-off once again. In Australian dollars, pre-ordering BS2 from the AU store costs $78.45, while using the UK store link, you'll pay just $44.30. AVP will cost you $70.90, or $44.50 using that same UK link. Valve send word that Bioshock 2 can now be purchased on Steam in anticipation for launch. By doing so, you'll save 10% (USD $8 ) on the purchase price (USD $79.99) and even earn an extra copy of BioShock for free - which you can gift to a friend if you already own it. Due to the franchises venture into the realm of multiplayer, a four-pack is also being offered which also comes with four copies of the original. Strangely enough, the saving on that pack is only USD $24, so it's cheaper to buy individual copies....

Bioshock 2 developer, 2K Marin, has spoken to assure fans that the wearily anticipated multiplayer mode has been tailored with the utmost care, and was not simply an after-thought. When speaking with PC Zone, senior producer Melissa Miller said "Multiplayer is a big part of Bioshock 2 and it certainly wasn't something where we thought: Oh, let's just shove a multiplayer mode on."
