If you hadn't heard, Duke Nukem: Next-Gen is a project that looks to recreate the original Duke Nukem 3D, using Unreal Engine technology. The game has now been granted a "personal non-commercial licence" by Gearbox, meaning not only is it allowed to be made, it's allowed to use the official Duke Nukem branding....

Kotaku has been told by anonymous sources that Duke Nukem Forever development now continues at a new home; that of Gearbox Software - the team behind Borderlands. It has been indicated that a playable demo of Duke Nukem Forever will be available later this year.

As most of you're aware, the development of Duke Nukem Forever died along with 3D Realms in 2009. Surprisingly about a month ago, the voice of Duke Nukem, Jon St. John, revealed that the game was still in production. "Let me go ahead and tell you right now that I'm not allowed to talk about Duke Nukem Forever," he said. "No, no, don't be disappointed. Read between the lines. Why am I not allowed to talk about it?" That revelation hasn't been officially confirmed or denied by any party, but now previously unseen footage of the game has surfaced. It's hard to know what to make of it, and if we'll ever see the game on store shelves, but what we do know is that the soap opera of DNF is far from over....
