-I installed steam yesterday morning, played normal crappy 1.6 -Had an error appear each time I tried to load steam last night -Reinstalled steam and 1.6 worked fine -Attempted to change config - 1.6 died -Each time I attempt to connect it goes through till CS opens then CS "dissapears" *poof*, same thing happens for HL when I open from steam. -Installed steam AGAIN and still have this same problem, NOT HAPPY
I just want to play my crappy computer games  Cheers for any help
OS BUD? ISP (obvious, but I don't know). There's a reason "noob" is beside my name.
Bugger it, thanks for any suggestions and help but if CS doesn't work with my minimal effort, maybe I should stop playing. I guess its a good thing really, it's all fun and games till someone looses an eye, and I've only got one left now. Better not test fate.
In case you are wondering why you cannot log into Steam, it is because the Steam Network is down. Greg Coomer at VALVe has posted a news article about this:
The Steam network is down right now. We're working on a fix and should have everything working again shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We all had to start somewhere ;)
OS bud - what he was trying to say was (What "OS" you using "bud (as in buddy)" :P) OS = Operating System, its the software that basically allows you to use your computer. (i just said it for sake of simplicity so dont tell me otherwise). Most common Operating Systems belong to the Microsoft Windows line of prodcts. With a few others such as MacOS, Linux, etc.
ISP - Internet Service Provider, if you can't tell us which ISP your with maybe you can tell us what kind of connection you have? Like 56k, adsl or cable?
Also don't give it the boot just because you can't get it to work. Just have a bit of patience and ask as you have done and youll get it sorted and not only that but youll learn a lot in the process :D
As for your problem: Question: Did you download the full steam/cs install? It's about 379Mb big.
1. Uninstall Steam. 2. Restart computer. 3. Reinstall Steam ( i used the full install and it works fine, so use that). 4. Start Steam up for the first time. (Just give it some time to load). 5. When you have the Steam menu up in front of you. Goto Games. Dbl click Counter-Strike. Now at this point your Steam may go all funny, lock up, or something odd but let it load, it takes about 30 seconds on my machine to load at this point. 6. Hopefully your within CS.
Have a bit of a play somewhere, then quit cs, exit from steam. Then restart steam and see how it goes again.
If you get the error Try this Go to Steam/config. Backup SteamAppData.vdf and delete it. Start Steam. Everything should be fine now! Tell me if that worked :!:
Okies, I've uninstalled, deleted and backed up steam way too many times now. I remember when I downloaded the origonal file a program auto ran which asked which programs/maps I wanted to install. I think if I can get back to that place without downloading that big bitch again all will be fine.
I have patience :) I can wait till steam actually works for everyone else, then try it myself. Do we have a date that WON is getting shafted for steam? Or when steam and 1.6 will get released on cd by valve?
samid did you try my fix ? This is just if you get the invalid ticket error.
1. Run Steam. 2. Logout 3. Login. 4. If you get the error that your internet connection aint workin or Steam is down then. 5. Go to Steam folder>config and delete this file after backing it up "SteamAppData.vdf". 6. Login Again
If you just get that iternet connection or steam is down then just. Go to Steam folder>config and delete this file after backing it up "SteamAppData.vdf".
Note: Deleting SteamAppData.vdf will be automatically created once you run Steam.
Just backup config and reinstall, not 2 much of a big deal =) yeh steam is a lil sketchy but i think with a few more patches and stuff it should b good, i havent had many problems yet apart from there invalid steam id ticket, but you just have to go to settings and logout to fix that so i aint complaining
Steam works for me.... Samid must be a n00b (as well as a cow). Allthough I have had to reinstall a couple of times.... But I suppose that wasn't really due to steam being dodgy, more probably something to do with me re-formatting my computer....
