if you find the word C*** any more offensive than the word vagina then consider your motivation, the only reason a word is offensive is because society says it is, and therefore the only reason to use it is to be offensive, so really, it's your fault, god damn marklars.

well, vagina is not offensive as that is the given name for the specific part of a woman's, or haemaphrodite's, body. cunt, is a vulgar slang term for that same part. i'm not saying that that is specifically vulgar, but, generally, in the society we live in, it is - even the dictionary agrees.

Ok just to update everyone, the facts we have decided upon are:
1) mungus is not funny in any other way than funny looking, and he wants everyone to know this, desperately.
2) fuck and cunt are the words that get censored, fuck gets its u removed, and the infamous c word cunt is completely covered, and in discovering this we have found more compelling evidence that smiddy is a tard.

along those lines, is there any specific scripting for censoring the word when people attempt to work around the word.. ie putting spaces in between, full stops, capital letters?
I really couldnt give a rats ass if someone says cunt. Personally i dont find that this word fits in well with my day to day chit chat, so i dont use it all that much. I find it stupid that anyone in this day finds a swair word offencive. Sure when they were first thought up, they had but one meaning and use, but these words are used in so many different manours these days, i really dont feel that the words actually reprosent what they once did. It reminds me of the movie, the boondock saints. Where they use the phrase "the rule of thumb" and the woman gets pissed off cause the rule of thumb was originnally meaning that a husband could hit his wife with a stick so long as it was no wider than his thumb... I mean come on they arnt going to fucking hit you with a stick you stupid bitch!!! sorry bit off track. hrm, I beleive I already covered this when I asked why its necessary for me to respect their issues with swearing, but not for them to respect my particular wishes with regard to the use of language..
especially when I find their offence completely illogical and stupid, and not only that, I find their complaints on such a stupid topic highly offensive, that brand of complaint actually makes me very angry because instead of ignoring the source of the language, they instead demand that it be removed from everyones access. Well, I fully agree that girls are definitely offended by the 'C' word - it has moved it's way up to be pretty bad lately. The girl members here haven't complained openly about it, and so I think they deal with it. It's not my favouritest (Spellchecker :lol: ) word, cos a lot of my friends are girls so I try not to use it. Different forums have different rules, as with servers and most other places out in the world. Everyone gets to realize that they have to act a little bit different in certain places. I rarely ever see the 'C' word used in these forums, and I'm sure that those people offended at it will pass it off.
Yes, the censoring of words is a little bit of a bummer - thankfully, it's not all like AMX :shock: - I think we'd all cry. The only two that seem to have been censored are the 'big two' - however, I still don't see why. I don't know if it will stop people from saying it. Personally, you can say most stuff just as funny without swearing. Then, there are times of course when it's just called for. I am assuming everyone in this forum is over 13? Well, that's a teenager and so there shouldn't be censoring.
Now we need to ask ourselves - Is this OverDrive's forum, or a community forum? (I really don't know - only been around for a few months). If it's gOD's forum, then like his house, he makes the rules. If it's a community forum - majority wins. Active majority I mean by that, not someone who's been a member since 2002 and made 3 posts.
Either decision isn't affecting me yet. I just like everything clean and tidy, possibly why I choose to write like this. I'm a cleanfreak even. So to see asterisks all over someone's text is quite annoying. Now, smart people like me, are just gonna say CLJNT!! - Funky hey :)
As far as I can tell, OD is not a clean living clean talkin evangelist, so I'm pretty sure that any censorship that has been implemented has been at the request of some portion of the community.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE, the original intention was to prevent not swearing itself but abuse.. however it's mutated to the point where swearing is bad, unfortunately this mutation always occurs with any rules...
I say fine for the swearing mod on cs, but not for the forums, we have moderators to prevent excessive abuse, and its just plain aggravating having your words cut up :?
