i dont really have the guts to kill someone, unless they did something real bad to me or something. oh yeah, it doesn't count if you're in the war and you're shooting some talibanie.
however, i reckon theres a fair few people in the military who couldnt really kill someone.
I think about it alot, doubt i ever could... sometimes im worried about giving someone too much of a beating leatalone kill someone, would be nice though
hmmm, true. then you would have to think if you were in their position, and you'd be thinking how much mercy they want. OR you could just say "but im not in your position" and finish the job (you'd have to be cold to do that).
i'd NEVER kill an innocent person for a whole heap of money. innocent is innocent - no price on that stuff.....
yeah good point Remy, if my family was assassinated or something id go apeshit. id be too emotional to let it go to the cops - id personally hunt the son-of-a-bitch down.
I could probably kill someone on the spur of the moment. If that person killed someone i know and like. But if i was to think about it, i wouldnt be able to do it. Unless they kill someone i really care for, like my future wife or child etc, then i would probably hunt them down.
I have killer instinct on my old Super Nintendo  . on a more serious note yeah i reckon i could kill someone, in the spur of the moment. Then again I really cant answer until the moment it i need to make the choice
definatly, i could kill someone out of cold blood but only if i knew there would be no reprocutions, no jail, no nothing. BUt like most people said if they killed someone i really cared for (friends, family) i wouldn't hesitate!
Quote from CaptnBirdsEye: I hav.. um.. could kill someone out of cold blood.what about if they are in that cold blood? :P
i think that if i were to get really angry then i could, i dont doubt it at all.... if someone were to pay me a substancial amount of money (im talking millions here) to kill someone i didnt know, i probably would.... but with a sniper gun or something, so i couldnt 'get my hands dirty'..... see cos in the land of make beleive i can have a sniper gun and be a good shot :P although i am more likley to hurt myself than someone else, more internal than external.
so if i staged a revolution you'd assassinate me? :P
i think it's been established that most people would kill for their family/loved ones. and i think the only way anyone can kill another person is to dehumanise them. if my life/the life of my family was threatened, i think that's already been done for me.
Quote from Illusions: so if i staged a revolution you'd assassinate me?
Maybe. It depends on the details. But if the thing settled into a nasty civil war, and you walked past my small band of energetic crazies wearing a red arm band ... who knows? :)
Hah... For lack of a better excuse they use the 'violent games' thing... I don't play any violent games that are realistic to life enough for me to wanna make me try to copy them...
But I would kill on instinct... give me a hella good reason to kill right there and then without thinking and I would just attack with anything... I guess it comes down to your primal essence... We all have it within us... just some people have a higher threshold of control for it. But it would have to be very good reason (e.g. kill my best friend right there in front of my eyes) and I would hunt that bitch down in a second and rip him to shreds with my bare hands.
Quote from hobo_phill: and if adults were to look at this thread they would, without doubt, blame it on all the 'violent' games we play. Not that i care or anything.
adults? would it surprise you to know that quite a few of us who use these forums would quite likely fall into the adult category?
i think you need to blame media whores for that violent game fallacy.
as for the thread subject, you can hypothesize all you want, you aren't going to know if you can kill someone until you're in a position to do so. and what really stops you from just killing someone? the thought that its morally reprehensible or the fact that if you get caught you're going to jail?

very true. most of us here have never had to knock on wood, so how can we possibly know how we'd react?

eyah i knew some are adults but the ones that are like goody 2 shoes or media whores or whatever. I think i'll blame it on the canadians
Quote from BlueMania: If you killed someone in revenge after they killed your family, would the courts let you off?
Absolutely not. The criminal law correctly considers each crime by itself. The person who hypothetically killed your family will be convicted for it. If you kill him, you will be also be charged, tried and punished.
Legally, provocation is a defense in the Northern Territory, but it is only personal provocation which counts: provocation by threatening or harming third persons is specifically excluded. In any case provocation is not a complete legal defense - if the court accepts that you were provoked, your charge will be downgraded but you will not be excused. You'd go from murder to manslaughter, which is still punishable, according to my memory, by 14 years inside.
Look, if I haven't made it clear before, let me make it clear now. There are no loopholes in the criminal code in the NT. Don't think you can use technicalities to excuse a crime, because it won't work. All the loopholes are closed and judges in the NT are famously unsympathetic to attempts to game the law.
Of course I am not a lawyer and you should consult one if you do or plan to do anything stupid.
I wouldn't like to think I'd do it, but I think most of us are more than capable of killing someone, under certain circumstances. I think I'd be likely to kill someone if they hurt me or anyone I cared about enough, even though I don't think of myself as being 'violent'. I don't think I'd go to war though.
Quote from Harbinger: yes, just get drunk and stab someone in the neck with a spear, apparently thats just a dangerous act causing death, nothing nasty..
apparently a symptom of having no loopholes in the territory is that all the judges are softcocks :P
Excuse yourself. You're thinking of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who incidentally answers to Attorney-General Dr Peter Toyne.
The magistrate in question has in fact been scathing of the decision to treat the matter as dangerous act, and I expect that the justices of the Supreme Court will be just as displeased.
