First train to darwin

I went down to see the first train roll into darwin got down to east arm warf looked around wasnt worth the 20 mins in traffic waiting to get to the car park nore the 5 min bus ride to the east arm warf

So i left watched it roll into darwin down at palmerston was alot better then waiting for it to get to the warf with 3 thousand other people around me

For those who didnt go you didnt miss much :roll: :D

scene was VERY reminiscent of dicaprio on the titanic.. I'M THE KING OF THE TRAIN!! ROFL.. i hope i got him..

but yeah.. shitloads of photos.. both digital (available monday) and normal (prolly tuesday if i can be bothered)

as for the traffic.. i worked down there.. so i put my orange flashing light on the burger mobile and drove down the side of all the traffic.. no waiting :)

plus i got a lift right out to the wharf.. no bus..

i wouldnt have gone normally.. but because i was heavily involved in the construction, i wanted to go and see how it all turned out..

i went down. i had nothing else better to do!! so a bunch of us hopped in the car and off we went......

.......40 mins later we were out at east arm the train rolled in, i couldnt see a thing i clapped when everyone else did... i have a pic of johnny too... i'll scan it... its the most amazing shot.. seriously.... hmm... anywho adventures are fun even if they are boring as hell!

they werent empty ffs...

the train is designed to be loaded 2 containers high.. it was actually only loaded one container high..

the train was 1.2kms long when it left adelaide, and 1.2kms long when it arrived in darwin... the sheer cost of running empty carriages that distance makes it stupid.

the next train (which has already left) is 1.8kms long.. and i'm not sure how high it is stacked.

Yay! A train...

And now the Palmerston people... Cue the noise complaints.

blame the traditional land owners. only reason it goes so close is because the other side of the tracks is traditional land.

and now palmerston has australia's latest type of roadkill... or railkill in that case. ;)

oh poor diddums.... if palm people dont like it, then they move or put up with it.... i lived on the RAAF base.... you get used to all the jets doing their training and the planes taking off.... and they arent quiet about it either.

And the VIPs didn't get any grog either... lol I was lucky I was just starting to unload the alcohol from the ute, when my phone went off, and i was told not to bother. Thankgod they didn't ring 10 minutes later or else I would have unloaded and then had to reload it it.

The worst bit was working in the heat in black and white and ties.

Although i don't really care as i don't live near where is passes by. Those people didn't pay money to have a train pass by them. Living on a RAAF base the noise from planes is expected. But when the people bought their houses in palm they did not buy them to have the noise of a train pass by. It will probably decrease their land value to.

Bahahahha train was early and when we where leaving East arm got to the weigh station and little johnnys car was speeding along trying to get to the spot where he was ment to get on the train bahahaha...

well pffftt... all my arguments have been burnt down so in the end i still dont feel sorry for those who are effected by noise pollution, but such is life and these things happen.... hm so really i havent learnt any lessons at all... what a shock!

and for those on the empty container argument.. it's true about half of the train was empty on the return trip to adelaide because there is not enough freight for the return trips yet.

I think that is funny that the condition has finally been met for having the NT leave SA

i saw the pics they had in the paper.... ppfftt i was at the back of the crowd and got better shots!!.... gimme a helicopter or the front of the crowd and i'd of gotten speccy shots.

my mum put down coins on the tracks when the train went thru noonamah way, so now i have a flat " from the first train to darwin in X amount of years... go mum! :P

I was going to go and see the train but couldn't be stuffed. Me and my parents heard the horn.. went outside and just sort of looked in the general direction but all we saw was the back fence.. and a helicopter "THE TRAIN.. oh loooooook a helicopter.. weeee!" eheh.. was tempted to quickly jump in the car and race down to East Arm but no. Afterwards I found myself a little dissapointed.. oh well..

I live about mid way through Durack and you can just hear the train coasting along i think.. if you listen closely.. and the horn isn't that loud either and only goes 2 short bursts or so. For those facing pretty much directly onto the track though it may be a little different :) Or :( But yeah.. it's not like it will be waking me from my slumber at 6am in the morning or anything like that so I'm not really fussed.
