I've just recently been running into a problem with my new comp: It keeps rebooting randomly (usually) whilst I am playing games.
Would anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how I might fix it?

Well apparently around 70..... dunno bout that though. What's the normal temp for an Athlon 3200?

not 70.
It should be around the 40's and 50's.
Get it checked ASAP. The Heatsink may not have proper contact or the fan may have stopped etc.

Yeah 70 is definitely in the unstable region - if stock cooling isn't doing it for you, look at some (relatively) cheap ways of keeping the temperature down, such as case fans (20 bucks a piece), or a better heatsink/fan combination.

and make sure you got case fans as well. i cant put any in my case so i have to leave it open....

I got a 2800XP and it runs at 31c idle
and thats above the XT, which puts of 70c alone

hahaha, buy yourselves a decent heat-sink, like a SLK9000-U.
I shit you not, it took my cpu temp down by a good 15 degrees.

I got a thermaltake tr2 heatsink setup on the weekend and droppped my 2800+ from 69 idle to 50 idle with no noise increase over the stock fan. Perhaps overheating, perhaps dodgy memory too. Check out the mem with a mem tester/smasher program and see how it fares.

yeah sneak has this same problem... with a twist...
it only ever happens when im around. im dead serious whenever he brings his comp round or whenever im there it decides to go **** u kiza and randomly reboot.
but saying that we think we have isolated the problem.
whenever im there we are always transferring copious amounts of data either through LAN or removable HDD. but when we connect to a 10mbit it doesnt reboot.
correct me if im wrong but i think if you are transferring a huge amount of data you will be filling up the ram and if he has a dodgy ram stick then will it **** up?
edit: ohh it also has nothing to do with heat he is runnning an 1800+ i think??? and it idles around 40 - 50 degrees

I also recomend the coolermaster aero/jet series of coolers, dropped my temps about 15-20 degrees, with a noise level DECREASE.

it might not be hardware related it could be that new virus going around....forget what its called but one of the effects is random shut-down an rebooting... :D
