the aim of what i am trying to do is increase the stratergy games... i believe next next lan will be zero hour.. and the next lan after that be total anilation
I'll have to reluctantly agree with rec on this. Protoss are the best.... but by god SC without BW is like a first person shooter with only a keyboard. Blah~
Quote from K_I_Z_A: well in IMHO theres no point in playing unless its original. broodwars is boring as all hell and protoss suck in it. GO THE TOSSES
Broodwars is boring as hell? what crap are you talking you fool... BW is still the same game with more units and more balance. How can SC be more fun when the basic game concept is the same? If toss suck in BW then they suck more in the original. One of our aussie pro bw players Legionaire beat Boxer (a korean terran player who comes out on top very often) recently and he is a toss player. Broodwars is much more balanced if you ask me and offers more variety of strategies. If you think toss suck in BW well try considering player skill more so racial imbalance.
On that note, I'd play in a BW competition. but I suggest no more than 2v2 if you want it to be teams. Most competition standard maps generally won't support more than 4. There are a few that do but map variety is a good thing. The new 1.11b patch is out and competition standard maps can be found at the WGTour website in the Broodwars section. If there aren't enough teams then I suggest 1v1 comp instead because a lot of competition maps are more suited to that style of play so there is more expansions and so forth. As long as Lost Temple doesn't get overplayed it should be fine :P
nah I'm not hardcore player... I suck too much to be a hardcore player. Man enough to admit it too. Koreans and their fascination with SC just intrigue me.
ok ... heres the deal.. leonami u play your own tournament... im trying to set up a BW comp..... as for u dualith... yes it is a real comp and im trying to scam some prizes somehow :D would like ONLY the peoples point of view who would LIKE TO PARTICIPATE.... 3vs3??? or 2vs2?
Ok so you set it up... you said you don't know a lot about starcraft so I am letting you know some things as a starcraft player. I already said I would like to participate you fool . And if your asking my POV then I say 2v2 because like I said there is a shortage of maps in the 3v3 area. Most maps will accomodate 4 players and the most of the competition standard maps have 4 observer slots so people can sit in and watch games.
as for me... so far its going to be mainly a 2v2... i have checked out most competition maps and i hear lost temple is really good? anyones point of view? i have also a document of stratergies for you noobz like me out there :D ... its really easy to understand if u have played starcraft once in your life :D anyway, can you start thinking about your teams and tell all your friends about it hopefully.. i still havn't negotiated any prizes... sorry guys :(
Lost temple is one of those overplayed proper maps that everybody knows all about because its overplayed. I'll let you pass judgement on whether its good or not. I have nothing against playing in it but I prefer not to due to being sick of it. If there are a lot of noobs playing then I suggest playing it because its easy to learn and master. There are a lot of other good maps that are at the URL I gave in my original post. Most of them are 4 player maps and the ones with [obs] in its name signifies that there are 4 observer slots for people to watch the game unfold in real time. If you want to learn what maps look like you can download a handy program called scmjpeg. Google it up and install it. It makes jpegs from starcraft map files depicting where the resources and mains are and etc etc. All you have to do is install the program, rightclick on a sc map file and click "make .jpeg" it will take a little while before it makes the jpeg of the map.
Brownie you still have plenty of time to organise stuff I mean the LAN's not for a while is it?
play the wgtour maps, including lost temple, its overplayed for a reason, and that reason is because its good. leaving it out would be like leaving dust2 out of a cs tournament.
ok... if by some chance i get this organised... and the email goes out saying you have registered... then all the food comes on..... u guys hopefully know what im talking about... then in that email it can say.... 2vs2 starcraft broodwar.... and then EVERYONE knows there will be a starcraft tournament happenin at the lan.... i believe thats a good idea...
also... last lan we had the tournament warcraft 3... some people were noobs at that but they still wanted to participate.... so i guess people could start practising now and learn some stratergies... rather than seeing it for the first time at the lan :D
and tachi is BLOODY GOOD AND CAN PICK UP STUFF REALLY QUICKLY IN ANY RTS GAME...
which reminds me... does anyone have starcraft broodwars cd that i can borrow so i can installed the latest patches and start trainin???? once i have it.. i don't mind sharin it around to everyone else
well...just cause they have none doesnt mean you can tease them, but seriously brood wars puts prices and stuff like that down a bit, same as pop levels, it is a good addition, besides what about the protoss make them suck, i think they only got better
Yeah SC has been updated like twice in the last month or so... that patch is very recent. I suggest BW ISO's up on the DGA servers as well as all updates and map files (from wgtour) for people to install on the day :)
ok... i got the cd's off knight... ALL GOOD :D ... i will hopefully have a server operational by then that will have certain game iso's on there... just for some help.. actually... come to think of it, i will even have a document of teams and ladders... then people will have to check it ... at a certain time :D .. that would b cool :D
Last I checked SC didn't have a dedicated server program... Unless you found some cool program that does it. I heard there was a Bnet clone floating around so you can have the server broadcasting games but I'm not sure about its legality. As the server would you be responsible for creating games? If so here are some suggestions... Make sure the game type is 'Use Map Settings' and choose an [Obs] map. This will make sure players spawn in player spawns and observers spawn in observer spawns. oh and you might want to chuck the server into an observer slot as an 'all seeing eye'.
sorry leon i must have explained myself wrong... sorry :( i classed my spare computer as a server :D... with hosting, people will be able to just host the game between themselves and just setup the right map and all... what i want to do with my spare computer is have a file that i continually update to show people what is happening...
eg how long this should take? who is playing who... etc

Oh ok so your computer is going to just be an info server for the comp but everything is player run? coolies no problem... so what style of tournament is it gonna be? round robin? double bracket?
i think that it would end up being a long nite, cause being experianced at SC it is quite easy to make it drag out for a long time, i would agree that we should use the round robin system
If you're experienced at SC then you'll get it over and done with quickly and not drag it out.
Watch any reasonable player and they don't wait until you have masses of Battlecruiser's and tanks and shit. They kill the other player as quickly as is possible under the circumstances.
New players to the game tend to wait until they have the best of everything before going all out.
Actually Ben... the guy is right... two experienced players can drag it out. They don't mass BC's or tanks and crap but they tech up to a certain level and attack defend and counter attack so much at different tech levels that the game goes for a long time. Within the game its still fast paced however every little thing just keeps building up game duration. Sure you want to get the other player as quickly as possible just that version of 'quickly' happens to be a long time :)
Newbie games can go on for a long time too because like you said they wait it out. So either way games can be pretty long. Game pace doesn't really change though. Don't get the two mixed up
depends on what you class as slow... if your talking about game pace I must say that starcraft is faster... in terms of game length starcraft can be really slow. Thing is warcraft battles are made to last longer cos everything has buffed up hps... in starcraft your units don't get a lot of exp so micro managing them to not die is a lot harder
If you retreat in SC u = smart because they still don't know what you got and you can have time to build up more troops to fend off a huge attack. Of course it depends on the situation but in most cases retreat is often backed up with reinforcements and then another attack. Pretty much what you just said has told me that your probably one of those people that build up an army and just run it in hoping to as much damage as possible. Starcraft battles thrive off fast paced micro management. Retreat is a good option in some cases.
sometimes its good to retreat.. but if u can take most of his forces out without letting him own you its a good thing... that way you can drag the fight onand have more men building
if your pro and retreat it can work, but when normal player retreat, it means they are getting flogged, and chasing them usually leads to their death. running away is a sure sign of showing the enemy your weak.
brownie, i dunno about the "taking out most of his forces bit" because, he's still gonna have stuff left. and your gonna have nothing. And this basically lets him attack you with what he has left... Although alot of battles in sc are gonna be lots of little battles, mainly harass strats leading up to a big one, so yeah...
