What have you got? We can work from there.

I had a AMD AthlonXP+ 1700 and tnt2 (32mb?) and I got 20-30fps in CS on Software. I upgraded to a AthlonXP+ 2500 and Radeon 9600 PRO (128Mb) and I get 100fps on OpenGL. I've always had 1Gb RAM. I think if you have 128Mb that will be sufficient for CS, worry more about video card... cs only needs a 133 minumum processor :)

geforce 2 ti would give you 80 - 100 frames in CS no worries, mine did.

dont upgrade, wait till PCI-E then go the whole system, and decent hardware u get at the moment wont be compatibe with PCI-E
u could just go a cheap quick fix solution though like a geforce 2 as phen mentioned
but u will want a brand spanking new system for HL2 and CS2

In that case driver update for your vid card.
See if that helps.
Post 9
um, u running it in D3D or Open GL ?
open GL is generally better

just check that vsync is turned off that could give you more fps.

IF you upgrade with PCI-E the minute it comes out to the market, you will be sorely disappointed.
Sure, it will be faster, but all new hardware technologies are feature limited, buggy and have alot of incompatibility issues.
Wait for the second generation of PCI-E. Upgrade to existing proven technology now.
Post 12
common sense tells u not to get the first gen of PCI-E
\which is gay casue it means i prolly got 8-12 months before i upgrade :(
Post 13
looking foward too also SATA v2 = 300Mbps and SATA v3 = 600 Mbps
Post 14
so what is PCI-E ??? And I took Vsync off and my max fps is 72 now but it still jumps a bitch load now from 20-72 and my vid card is a nVidea 4 MX 440 i think or sumthing like that, thanx a lot for the help!

k.
PCIe is a new technology that uses a faster speed of transfer than current AGP (which your vid card generally sits on) and far faster than the current PCI bus (which can become saturated fairly easily). PCIe overcomes a lot of these issues and most motherboards in the near future will be coming out with this, as well as most video cards.
I'm guessing you've got an older P4 in the 1.8ghz to 2.2ghz range.
Getting higher FPS all depends on how much you really want to spend. You could go all out and get a better CPU with new Motherboard and faster Ram alongside a brand new Video card. But that'll cost you...
Also, do you only really play CS? If that's the case then you don't need to go all out. a Vid card like a GeForce 4 Ti4200 or an FX5600U/5700 or a Radeon 9600Pro/XT will do you just fine. Your CPU can certainly keep up with CS.

hell it iwas playable on my old 233MMX with 16mb of video memory and 160mb of SD RAM
