Different Perspective on DGA

Quote from Mandy:

I think it is about time everyone took a very hard and long look at why they are with DGA for whatever reason, wether it is as gamer, official or committee member. And what exactly it is they are getting out of DGA.

At the moment the whole lot of you are putting little old ladies every where to shame with all the backstabbing, bitching, indignation and stupidity that is going on. In fact I am beginning to believe our politicians could have something to learn from you all. And not only are you doing it in private you are doing it in public forums where everyone else can see what a pack of complaining whinging babies you are.

I have sat quietly on the sidelines for a long time and I can see that this behaviour, more then anything, is what is killing DGA. No one is doing anything because on any decision that needs to be made, you all build your little trenches and get on your high little horses and start yelling across the battlefields at the injustice you are all having served on yourself. You’re all to busy complaining about how no one listens to you and you get no thankyous, that you’re not even bothering to listen and give out a few thankyou’s yourself.

If you are expecting thank you and gratitude you really are in the wrong place. Volunteer work is a thankless and arduous job. No matter where you are doing it. There will be no “you are the best thank you so much”, there will be no glitzy awards, or money, or any other form of reward. That is the way it is and that is the way it will always be. And if you don’t believe me, I ask you, when was the last time you said to some charity worker who has come up to you asking for money “you are doing good work keep it up?”

Those who say they aren’t being listened too should actually read the meeting minutes. There were so many topics discussed that we had to cut the meeting short otherwise we would have been there all night. Everyone’s point of view was heard and discussed. Logically and sensibly. The fact that there were so many issues shows there has been a problem for a long time.

I have to say it was the best DGA meeting I have ever attended. Never before have I seen so many people turn up, willing to do something to help DGA and make it grow. The enthusiasm from all those that made the effort to attend is to be commended.

For those who could not attend, you are not being ostracised from the committee, or cut out of the loop. You are more then welcome to other meetings, it’s just (in the majority, there were exceptions) you obviously had different priorities if you did not put DGA first over other things that could have been rescheduled. If you do not have the time to devote to DGA as an official or committee member just say so. No one will think any less off you. People’s priorities change as they get older, there is nothing wrong with that. If other priorities are taking precedent then just step aside and let someone else who can, jump in and give it a go. This does not mean you can not contribute at all and have no say. It just means you can take a back seat and let someone else do the running around for awhile.

I am not saying anyone in particular is in the right or wrong. Everyone has a foot on each side. And it is not my intention to point any fingers. Hopefully with this new “crew” helping the committee, DGA can take a new and positive step forward. And DGA does not flounder again by avoiding the mistakes made in the past.

Those who want to help and can, just help. Even if it is just a suggestion on the forums. And if you think you are not being “heard” you might actually be surprised at how many people are listening. Meetings are also for ALL to attend and put idea’s forward, vote on decisions and be part of the team. It’s time to forget about all the nonsense that has happened in the past and leave it there. And take a step towards the future. Now this may be a very utopian view but I hope it is achievable for DGA’s sake.

Post 2

has anyone told you how sexy you look today RakeR. :)

first-class post mandy.

Post 3

Good post, I was trying to make it to the meeting but couldn't because parents were sick, I would of loved to come.

But very well said, Thanks for the in-sight :)

Post 4

LMAO!!!

Fanboi's unite.

So we are not allowed to comment 'publically' on DGA's problems or get your posts deleted. But we can all sit here and be lectured by Raker other half who only knows his side of the story.

Stop being nuthuggers and look at the REAL reason DGA is going downhill.
Everyone knows it, noone wants to say it because he is a nice fella.

Post 5

I find it funny, dont know mandy but keith is dragging her into it

"Whinging in private and in public"

Yet this is posted public :S good work

Not only does this post show that keith is trying to defend himself, he is trying to get somebody else to do it for him Good work

Post 6

believe what you want to believe kurt.. you always do.

Post 7

It's not just him Burk.

Since my post was deleted last week i've had no fewer then 10 current and former admins pm/msn/call me and say they agree.

DGA needs help and unless you actually locate and fix the most glaring issue, then everything else is smoke and mirrors.

Look we WANT DGA to succeed, 2 years of my life went into that lan and I got a lot out of it.

This WAS predicted I might add by 3 or 4 of us on the Admins boards last year, we relented on an issue that we shouldn't have and DGA paid the price.

For that we are sorry.

Post 8

I started helping out with DGA about 3 years ago now, eventually becoming an admin (which back then, and hopefully now) meant "slave" (although a willing slave :-)).

What has disappointed me most of late is how many admins (who are all volunteers) actually volunteer to do the work - staying behind on Sunday to help clean up.

It will be interesting to see how many of the new "excited people" are around on a Sunday - to me, the true test of dedication to DGA. It's not just about the title - are you prepared to stop gaming to help out someone with a problem? Are you prepared to stay up all night to "babysit"? Are you prepared to sit on the door for hours at a time (6 hours at EVO)? Are you prepared to clean up other people's mess? Not to mention investing your own time in organising sponsors/venues/paying bills, etc...

THAT'S what being an admin is about - I won't go into personality differences, human nature being what it is - but let's see how dedicated people really are to DGA once the gloss of meetings and free entry has worn off.

EDIT BTW, I'm not saying that everyone has to do all those things (except for the Sunday arvo thing) - there are different roles by different admins. Just listing some examples of the things that do have to be done at times.

Post 9

i was specifically referring to kurt's conviction that keith is dragging her into this.

CoCo.. don't know what post you're referring to, so i can't comment. I musn't have seen it before it was deleted?

I hope, along with you Xaine, that these people have the commitment to do most, if not all, of what you mentioned below.

I will be spending quite a bit of time working with Sponge, and the other committee members to chase sponsors, government grants, and apparently do paperwork, paperwork and paperwork.

I am hoping personal issues can stay aside, as they have no place here at all.

EDIT: If it becomes evidenced that anyone is here (committee/officials) purely for free or discounted entry then they wont be around for long.

Post 10

Quote from Burk:
believe what you want to believe kurt.. you always do. And until proven otherwise I will.

Been working with DGA for a LONG time, DGA5 to be exact. and well I seen what it has gone from too, and quite frankly, its doing this

Its gone down, but isnt coming back up, espically when things like this keep coming back up.

Fine DGA wants to fix itself up then fine, DO IT. Stop trying to defend yourselves here with Public BS posts, as that is all this is. Somebody trying to defend somebody else, No matter who it is, move on and sort out DGA and stop posting this crap up.

Post 11

The reason why this 'crap' is being posted, is because DGA announce new committee members and the steps that we want to take to make an attempt to fix it and cop nothing but abuse and shit bagging, not to mention the negativity ie, 'you cant fix it, we've already tried'. Please, at least we have new members WILLING to give this a shot.

The point of Mandy's post was to wake certain people up, open their eyes and realise its an organisation for playing games, not for politcal soap-boxing. She was neither defending nor attacking, you may not realise it as such, but Mandy is at most DGA's in one form or another and although she is quiet, you would be suprised how much she would have noticed. Just because you dont hear from her, doesnt mean shes not there.
Who says Mandy doesnt have a voice in the matter?

Everyone wants things to change and things to happen, but the minute we get a few guys/girls in who are willing to make these changes, they get nothing but flak from disgrunlted people.

Bridges need to be built.

I have no idea what coco was referring to tho, so im in the same kaiyak as burk.

I have no personal grudges against anyone at DGA for any reason, just like to clear this up right now.

Post 12

i wonder, if this had been posted by user:Mandy, or some other name of her choosing.. and not as Raker posting what Mandy has said.. would there have been all these comments..

and Milenko.. wat you doing in my kayak?

Post 13

Yes there would have been, because this didnt need to be brought up.

People have been removed and people added to give DGA some *new life*

Now maybe you guys should work on that eh?

Post 14

Milenko the political soap boxing only started after all this talk of an organisation.

When it was first brought up some people were positively salivating over the prospect of a 'board' tussle and the comments are probably still there, talk of people "noses being our of joint and ego's dented" That's when a bunch of us decided to scale back because frankly some of the ego's were way out of control.

Go read the post if you have access, the vibe was terrible.

That was a year ago and since the numbers of attendees has dropped dramatically.

Of course Mandy has a right to express her view, although others had their posts deleted, its just that her view is..well..one-sided.

So yeah simply put...

Was DGA a better LAN 12 months ago then it is today.

If so what has changed and how to rectify it.

THat should be your primary focus, not board warri0ring.

PS: For the two guys in the Kiyak, the post referred to has been deleted, the older admins will remember tho, twas quite an argument, a decision was reached, someone made a decent speech and we relented. We are suckers.

Post 15

that is my primary interest. I can't, and wont speak for any other admin/official.

If i seem like i'm a board warrior, it's just because i'm at work and can't sit down and work on DGA stuff here, but can find time to reply to the odd post or two.

Post 16

Hehe your fine Burk, you actually want it to be better + your relatively new so can bring a lot of new ideas to the table. + your active so you back your talk up with action. So no probs from my end.

A lot of the new admins are a step in the right direction. A bunch of us had our vent last week, got deleted, thought point made, didn't mention it or repost.

And this tripe is posted to fire us up again :)

Post 17

or 5 in this thread :)

Post 18

ummm.. if anyone asks, i'm on early lunch :)

Post 19

LOL a lot of views..most DGA forum has had in a while :)

Post 20

Lets wait and see what DGA does in reference to points brought up else where to here.

Post 21

Next DGA Meeting

When: Friday 1st October
Time: 7pm (possibly 8pm)

please pm anyone on the admin/officals list and they will tell you the venue. or add me to MSN burk@internode.on.net - at home.. and tikiman_nz@hotmail.com at work.

I ask you all to come along and express your views..

special note to those who may have had access removed.. a decision was made by ALL IN ATTENDENCE to remove access to people who didn't attend the meeting. This doesn't mean that you cannot have input, and doesn't mean that you wont have access granted in the near future. (i.e. at next meeting). This also doesn't mean that by coming along you automatically dob yourself in for setting up / packing up and other admin/offical tasks.. it means you will have your views heard and acted upon.

CoCo, Unseen.. i think both of you need to attend this, and personally, i hope you do. DGA moving forward is the ONLY resolution i will accept and we need to hear views from all sides.

Post 22

Sorry wont be there. I have other things I need to attend too.

Post 23

Ok Burk.. Now this meeting is for everyone right? And considering a good bunch of the admins had no idea about the last meeting, how about making a sticky in this Forum so that we people can actually see when DGA is having a Meeting.

You want to help DGA, how about making it easier for the gamers/admins for once, rather then keeping it all to yourselves.

Also can't DGA keep a simple board of officials/admins? I find it rather ammusing that you must provoke access to the Private DGA forum because someone missed a Meeting. That seems rather childish to me, I don't see whats so hard about giving a few people access to forums, and leaving it as that. Or perhaps DGA has forgotten the input some of the people here have actually given. I know myself personally have never been given anything in return for all the help I have given, and thats been a lot longer then most officials currently. But that doesn't matter, I didn't want any nor did I look for it.

Post 24

Jono, that's why i've just posted the meeting time. i want everyone who feels they have input to attend. can i ask a moderator to make my next post sticky please

like i said, a decision was made to revoke access, but nothing is permanent jono.

why can't this board be used to raise issues, where ALL gamers have access and can comment, there is a need for some things to be kept to a select few, such as tenative dates / costs, etc.

and please don't take that as me not saying you can't be one of the select, just explaining why. I don't care whether the select few is 10, 20 or 30, etc.. just understand why it needs to be.. everyone.

Post 25

Posted my views, they got deleted so I see no point in going through them again, would you agree with that Burk?

DGA needs leadership and a face to the public.

Getting Tn1 reinvolved would be a good start, he is the heart and soul of DGA.
It's his baby and he has been treated disgracefully.

Last post ever on DGA forum or related to DGA.

Goodbye.

Post 26

If Coco goes I will go to :)

After reading the last 3 pages, I am very dissapointed with the actions of certain people. Too many ego trips and people fighting to have "power with in DGA". I have seen this all too many times with other organisations/groups.
I wasn't able to make the last one, as my grandmother arrived in darwin at the last meeting. I will attend the next one and express my feelings on this matter, and if i get my way... Fix DGA up once and for all !!!

tn1 - Founder of Darwin Gamers Association

Post 27

disappointed to hear that CoCo.

as previously mentioned, i cant comment on your views or why they were deleted as i missed it completely.

is there a reason tn1 didn't attend the meeting that i'm not aware of.. i would be happy to discuss with him and relay to the executives, or he can take it up with them directly.

DGA 'leadership' must stay focused and have one goal, not 5 executives with 5 different views, and xx committee members with several opposing views. We will discuss things and come up with solutions. So therefore, i am not going to comment on the removal of people from DGA Committee forums, but i am happy to discuss it in pm, or msn with individual affected parties.

Post 28

Wasnt DGA founded by ahhh, yeah ok let you have your fame :)

There's the reason. :)

Glad to hear you're attending the next meeting.

imho, DGA is no place for power trips, and certainly no place to voice personal issues with other people.. i can name several people, that if acting like they have in here in their normal paid jobs would have been on the dole long ago..

Look forward to hearing what you have to say.

burk - DGA n00b :)

Post 30

From reading this thread, for starters, who is Mandy? (Ritorical question)

secondly, what ever happend the the G in DGA.

thirdy, tn1 = DGA god and should not be left out.

the last lan i remember people being dissapointed about leaving was about 12 months ago...now days, IF they show up, people only stay for one day.... Coco, dont leave it all behind, just let someone else do all the things from now on. i dont want to go to a lan and not see you come :(

Burk, i may have misjudged you, im glad your actually giving a shit, and seem to know what is best for something that was created to have fun, NOT create alot of bullshit, which by the looks of it is whats is happening. Im glad you are one of the admins.

Xaine's post is very true :( and probable reasons for his leaving DGA and never coming back. i miss you too at lans Xaine.

There are so many people that are not coming back to DGA's wether for their lives etc... or the fact that they dont have any fun anymore? your guess is as good as mine, i dont know DGA and what was happening as much as coco, but i hope everything can be sorted out, so we can get back to having fun.

Post 31

Left? Haven't left - just didn't come to last one due to work commitments. Thanks for the comments though.

Being annoyed at other people's lack of help still doesn't excuse me from not helping, so you will still see me there at 4 in the morning - awake - babysitting, and on Sunday arvo struggling to stay awake long enough to clean.

Post 32

i appreciate your comments heretic, and i am the first to admit i mayt have trod on a few toes when i first went to DGA with my attitude, etc, etc.

I want the old DGA atmosphere back, like all of you do. just like heretic stated... i want to be disappointed about having to leave a lan and these lan's are going to start being a hell of a lot of fun once again.

I don't want to see anyone NOT going to a LAN because of any reason.. the Darwin GAMERS Lans are for the GAMERS and for everyone to enjoy. There will be no ego's, there will be no personal grudges. there will be fun, and there will be lots of it.

stay tuned for improvements.

oh, and Mandy is RakeR's better half... and much much better too.

and Xaine, hope to see you at the meeting. :)

Post 33

One thing that we also must realise is that the last 6months have been shocking for new games coming out. I know myself that I havent come for that reason alone - bored with the same old stuff...

With CS:S out now, I'll be at the next lan - might even see HL2 make an appearance... And when TF2 is out, then you'll struggle to get me to leave...

Just a thought...

Post 34

definately.. on top of any other issues present, this hasn't helped..

the next few months, and more, look to be jam packed with good games.

Post 35

Boo its me...ex Pres, ex vice Pres.
A good thing to remember guys is that there always has and always will be ego's present in what ever people choose to do. The hard thing to do is to be able to manage those ego's and have them work to your advantage. The easiest and most respectful way is to say it to a persons face. A lot of snide remarks have been made across the board some valid some just bitching.

I stepped aside partially due to this but mainly due to high work commitments and personal issues that were of no concern to any one but myself. So in the interest of DGA i stepped away for an undisclosed period of time. Several remarks were made and not appreciated and have left a sour taste in my mouth.
The result, well the bitching is still there, work is still still hectic and I no longer have a wife and frankly i have no wish to go back into the bickering.

Sort it out guys and sort it out quick before the primary essance of DGA dissolves and that is to have FUN, FUN and FUN. Work together as a team and for christ sake move forward.
I am not pointing this at any one person but at DGA as a whole. It needs life....

Post 36

Ok, I can't give any good speeches, and, most probably no one will listen to me because Im only 17 and most people dont like to listen or take advice from anyone younger, so basically all im going to say is that...

I think DGA has turned into a shithole ( Dont get me wrong I know there are people still burning there hearts out trying to get this going ) There are alot of good people to do with the DGA scene and I wanna name a few people that I think personally do an awesome job and they should keep it up... EOS, Cocky, Clackers and Xaine.... But most of all, the man of the match, the man of the hour, the Pilot himself tn1 (without the capitals) Correct me if im wrong but he just comes to play games now?

I think he should be re-aquanted with the scene, he did a TOP job when i first started coming till he stoped, then it went down track, no offence to those running it afterwards.

But I agree totally with CoCo as to say that he has been treated with alot of disrespect considering what he has done with DGA's..

Thanks to those that did read my post.

Post 37

I'm with Ph3n, In my opinion it has gone to shit compared to what it used to be. The first event I ever went to was LANded a few years back, in the carlton hotel...had three function rooms booked out for it and it was AWESOME.....compare that to evo in Jan...which dont get me wrong was great and I'll be making a trip back to Darwin for the next one.......and its easy to see which one was the better LAN. tn1 definately needs to get back into it

Post 38

that's up to tn1. if he just wants to come and play games.. then he can. if he wants to have input, then he can.

by the sounds of his post, he wants to have input, and like i've said all along. I, for one, will be welcoming it.

we're all going to move on from whatever happened over the past few days, months, years, whatever, and make DGA fun, exciting and as good, if not better than what it used to be.

Closer to the meeting date i would assume a list of attendees would need to be established, and an agenda. I'll leave that up to RakeR/Cocky in the meeting Thread.

If there is going to be a lot of people we may need to secure a venue.

Post 39

you know instead of just saying 'dga has gone to shit', maybe you should elaborate a little and mention in what way you think it's gone to shit. what is worse now? just saying 'yeah its shit' is a cop out.

Post 40

very true. would be helpful if we knew.

any issues we will put on the agenda for the meeting, and whether you are there or not, your issues will be raised.

Post 41

When I say it has gone to shit...I dont mean it in the sense DGA is crap, its still great, just not AS great as it was previously.

Well at EVO, I was having network issues and getting help was like trying to draw blood from a stone, I ended up spending about 2 hours of it trying to work out what the hell was going on. I eventually got it working but some help would have been nice. I tried to ask for some quick help, or just to check if something was OK and got the same response.

As an example:
I was hearing conflicting opinions on whether windows file sharing was aloowed or not, some said it was, some said it wasnt and others said yeah but only for small files.....admin also seemed as divided on this issue as everyone else, so I wasn't sure what I should be doing or how I should be going about it without the fear of getting into trouble for something.

The atmosphere just didn't seem as relaxed as it should have been.....I was always worrying whether I was doing something wrong or whatever, because there were no clear defined rules anywhere to followand I dont know who it was from the admin panel but when I asked questions, I was given a less than friendly reply.

All in all it was good and most of the people ther were very helpful and friendly, but it's a shame that some of the admin weren't as helpful and friendly as I belive they should have been. I got the impression from one or two that they had the arrogant "holier than thou" thing happening...again i can't mention names because I really have no idea who they were, but I know they seemed as if they were doing it for the admin title as opposed to actually wanting to help.

These are a few examples of were I had problems personally, there were a couple more, but they touch on the same issues as above, so there is no point mentioning them.

All of that said, the things like pizza ordering and Eater's BBQ were great, as was the gaming once I got my networking sorted. It was good overall, but not as good as my previous experiences.

Post 42

as an example of us fixing things. a set of rules has been posted and will be refined prior to EVO next year.

These will be made available at the time of membership, when this comes around, and also will be posted online and in paper copy around DGA Events.

As for any other issues, time will tell my friend.

Post 43

my 2c worth:

The windows sharing was a major issue for most gamers.i for one am not the best computer wizz in the world and know very little about computer compared to some dga members...maybe you should write a "how to use ftp guide" so its easy to use for file transferring...i think most of the people who come to dga mainly leech... i know i definetely do, but my computer literacy skills to me along time to adjust to ftp... maybe dga should think about doing this? the DGA committee have said before "we will help you learn ftp" i have asked many members of the dga if they can teach me... but then DGA admins have more important things to do and then some problems still arn't resolved... or the other common issue, where the admin says it once and they think we "instantly" learn it ... lol. it may get some of the leechers back to DGA after a while?

i love the fact there are servers such as "the realm" up at dga for everyones needs... i shall be setting up the server over the next couple of weeks to do the same thing. Can we also try and collect all the names of the servers at the door for people. i know there is such things as IP sniffers and stuff like that. *i have learnt how to use them aswell" but not all DGA members are "LEET" computer people. take example of the skaters :D lol... sorry for pointing you guys out... but im worser than you by a mile. a suggestion could be, while you pay... you have to say if you have a server or not. if you do have a server, can you plz give tell everyone your name so people can also share your files around

NOW FOR THE GOOD PART *hopefully this fits into this section*

the first lan i ever went to was 2 years ago.. i believe it was dga 15, 16 or 17 or something kronical like that. i spoke to all the people who looked like admins to me. I had nearly no computer skills at all and i wanted to play games... i didn't even know my computer had an onboard video card. I didn't no anything about networking let alone tcp/ip... i asked certain people from dga... some people tried to help me, then once they failed they went off to play their own games... then there was the HUGE MAN called TN1... he sorted out my shitty computer... sat me down.. showed me everything... and fixed everything up.. i think we even voided the warranty on my computer to put in a pci video card so i could play half life!!! :D ... it was the best... best lan i ever went to.. i found all these good files to fill up an amazing 4gbs of space... i was happy as anything!!! just like to congratulate people like TN1 and other like him that really help the dga members... thats mainly the reason why i come to these events. others that have helped me over the years that i remember majorly were xaine, coco, raker, rakers friend who i give shit to and still don't remember his name.. *i think its cockeroche* he is good bloke.. works at telstra shop :D ... eater is another great bloke...

there are many others just like these people here that really help gamers at dga... im not here to slag anyone off but to congratulate people on a job well done. Thats why most of us come to DGA's. Im know for a fact there is more people that i haven't mentioned but if these people and others like them are booted from dga, then i believe we have a major problem. however, if these people leave on their own terms, i wish them luck and thank them for everything that they have done. I have most probably met 100-150 gamers, some of which i have just met such as burk... I try to be like the people mentioned by supplying them meat from BILO meat room and go get all the crap such as the food and drinks for DGA. I don't need any special prevligies such as "being an admin" because the true admins are the ones who always continue to strive to make dga a better LAN (i try to do this too though) :D

no doubt unseen or someone else will slag me out just like mandy :D ... but its all good...

THANKS DGA FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE

THE END

Post 44

how to ftp guide is coming and will hopefully be ready by October 9th. we are trying to condense it to one A4 page. if possible.

The first lan I ever went to was DGA 9 and I didnt know anyone. Tn1 helped me out with my counterstrike setup.

This is what DGA has lost, I have been trying to keep some of the communication between admins and gamers alive however in the end my attempts ended up withme fighting with the admins. Unseen has understood all thats wrong. The thing that kept DGA alive was the family aspect. The main reason I went to DGA was to talk to friends I'd made through it. And now? A whole lot of admins who seemed to think they controlled everything and if you had an opinion then you were out unless you happened to be an old school player.

I must admit I think the one person trying to breach this was Raker. A strange thing considering I used to think he was an arrogant tool. However I respect him and what he has done for DGA more then most. I agree bring back Howie the way he was dismissed from DGA was an act of pure spitefullness. True he resigned but the old DGA would have kept him as a valued member,

Another failing of DGA is counterstrike is dead. That game was the glue that held DGA together in its last days. You need to find another community game.

CS:S until TF2 comes out :) :)

Post 48

Counter-Strike will never die in my books :)

But i totally agree with you Amanda in the fact that DGA use to be a "family" group although like i said i have only been around since EVO 3 which was my first LAN

But totally agree :)

do you still love me ? :P

Post 49

by Oct 9?... What are you writing? If you would like I'd be more then happy to do one up, even for setting up a FTP server for those intrested. I'm not a pro at it, but I can setup a basic server and quite easily use an FTP client.

Personally I think the worst thing for DGA at this point of time is all the shit that is going on in front of the public. Seriously what are these people browsing the forums gonna think when they read this? Not “wow I can’t wait for the next LAN”
How can we step forward when in the DGA forum we are all fighting calling people power trips and saying DGA is shit?

Let’s move on.
The next LAN will go off with gaming but this can’t be achieved unless we get some positive attitudes happening about DGA staff/officials and the name DGA its self.

It was said, I believe, that the last meeting was open to all those willing to attend? If this is true, then it would have been good to know about the time/date/venue. If not, don't worry about it.

Thanks for that info burk, I'll see if I can make it to the next meeting and perhaps have some input (not sure whether I'm back from Brissie though.).

Heretic, I believe Mandy is Keith's other half. As was said, this would lead to some bias, or perceived bias, from the members here regarding Mandy's perspective on what is happening with DGA. I have never really been that involved with the LAN's and only starting hearing about the internal struggles recently.

So, as a gamer I have to say...

The atmosphere has completely disappeared. There is no activity. At the last lan... it seemed dead. (I know some didn't attend because of the Competition focus) I honestly don't know how I'd go about fixing this though.

Just my little bit of input.

Seqo.

Post 53

hopefully see you there seqo.

will get the venue to you shortly.

Knight, I think you will find that people might be a bit more respectful if they see DGA is actually listening to views now.....It does wonders for people when they know they are being heard.

As for the FTP thing....I think an idea would be to have a free trial program available at the door, and have 2 or 3 people to help set it up for people who plan on file sharing....just ask as they come in "Do you plan on shring your files...if so you need to set up FTP, we have a trial program available here that you can use, and if you're unfamilliar with it, we can help you set it up".

By using a trial version, you dont have to worry about any legal issues of distributing a program, just find one with a 30 day limit. I suggested having someone to help set it up, because it will make things mych easier of rsome peiople who arent confident enough to do it themselves....even though they have instructions.

Also, I have a similar great experience with tn1 at the first LAN I went to...he helped me put some balls into my nanna's compaq via a 12 meg voodoo2 and 128meg SDRAM (This was before DDR existed) so I could play quake 3 and UT....ur a legend tn1

CoCo, you're a champion, always will be, but your stance on this is absolutely f*cking childish. Mandy's post was flawless, and riddled with points that you, and all others involved (or not involved because of the points in Mandy's post) should be paying close attention to.

To all of you... get over yourselves, and starting making an effort to make things better, instead of pointing blame.

Post 57

rec is good. like ham, ham is good too. it's funny to see exactly who is pointing blame at who.. oh well, moved on.

Post 58

It sucks because both arguments are very strong, its just I favour trying to get Howie back up and running , I mean... common..... who DOESNT like him? whats that? no one? everyone likes him, good bloke, top gamer, good all round person to have at a lan.

We Want Howie! We Want Howie! :P

Post 59

So, Phen, let me get this straight... you've avoided making a real point, you've avoided giving a real opinion, instead you've sat on the fence either because you don't have any real view, or are too scared to voice what you really think, and have topped it off by kissing Howard's arse? Nice one, bruv!

Post 60

huh, dude i've told you my point before :S

I've havnt been going either way, i've always said i think howie should come back in...

I havnt said anything other that that dude go back and read my posts.... I never said anything other then that Jamie, I dont know what your on about ...

I just stated that i think both arguments have there strong points but im sticking with getting howie running it again, I may have said something in the wrong way i ment it, or you mis interperated.... but dude, I havnt been leaning back and forwards on that fence, its always been one way.

My opinions were real, and as were my points. **** dude. Get off your high horse. and if i did make a mistake I told you im not that good at writing shit, and you even said im not that bright.

Post 61

Or it could be because he agrees and any point he has to raise has already been raised.......it is a possibility

Post 62

Just my 2c worth
The way that i see things, is that DGA has had a big upset with a few members leaving, thus leaving someone new to take the leadership role. Some people disagreed with this new leadership (im guessing on a personal level) and the bickering started.

Isnt the whole point of DGA to have fun?? The administrative job is volunteer, and i think some people used it to there advantage.
I really think its time to wipe the slate clean, for everyone to shake hands and resolve any issues they have face to face. Everyone is mature enough to even 'try' to get along with everyone else. Peopl are entitled to voice there own opinion and as can be seen at the last meeting all are listened to and discussed.

I also think the main reason DGA hasn't been AS fun is of the lack of games. In the last few months there was a big stoppage of games entering the scene and nothing new to play. Also the creation of the Committie created legallity issues with certain things. It was created to improve the DGA, not bring it down. As to peoples posts being deleted, i dont know what they were about, but have you tried actually talking to the person privately... some things cant be discussed with public as to the reason they might have been deleted.

Post 63

well ive been to like 2 or 3 dga's and most people know me... as a new atendee id have to say yes there alot hardcoregamers and the like who dont like change and new people coming into their shit... but then theres people like raker (i think thats who ur all bitching about) who helps out to all shit. not only that hes a good allround bloke. and eater **** first lan i went to i sat next to this ****ing huge guy and thought **** me what have i got myself into but he showed me everything and taught me ftp so i could get shit.

sorry if this is mushy for somereason winamp has found an aerosmith song and decided to play it "i dont want to miss one smile, i dont want to miss one kiss"

DGA's are good...when people actually play games and generally have fun...which i think is what they are all about...
Some of the admin's seem a bit power hungy and think that their shite dont stink...but that could come with the big heads they get from playing online and "apparently" being good...ROFL
